So I'm not sure why this is happening on a specific spool of mine - it's the texas rig reel that's getting the line dragged around concrete pylons up to 25' deep. I keep finding spots where the monofilament is kind of bent or like it's been in a knot. The line has also been dug in on itself on a few snapoffs. The spool of line is maybe a week old and is still pretty full - it feels sort of silly to change it, but knowing I'm fishing ol' monsters in deep water I feel conflicted. It's just going to happen again, and it hasn't caused a breakoff or anything....yet. I'm using sufix elite which is why I'm hesitant to respool, it's expensive to be doing it every few days. I think the obvious answer is to respool to be safe and start using big game instead LOL but what would you do? Mono is pretty sturdy stuff but I don't want to lose a nice fish just because I was being cheap

100%.....when in doubt replace or retie when it comes to knots or line.

 

It's not only for practical reasons, but for mental and confidence reasons....once I have it in my head something is flawed, boom it's cursed.    

 

You spend all that time trying to catch the fish of a lifetime, why chance it over a spool of line is the way I see it.   I'm already pot committed though ?

TBH harder flouro is a better fit for concrete abrasion than mono, might try a spool of abraz-x. But it sounds more kinked than rough/abraided.

 

But yeah do you want a fish story about the giant that broke you off, or do you want a fish story with a pic of that giant.

 

I notice a bunch of wear specifically on the line on my t-rig rod too, I think it's from fishing it pretty hard this summer, whacking them pretty hard, and being around a bunch of cover.

Confidence of good line might make all the difference. I'd respool. Switch to Big Game and don't worry about the cost. Or, if you have a way to remove the line and reverse it, you could get more life from it.

I would respool. Mono line is inexpensive, and is your connection to the fish.

^ Ditto - I'd respool in that situation even if it was more expensive FC...being much cheaper mono, it's a no brainer.

You said the spool is still pretty full.  Maybe cut off 20 feet or so and see how the line is there   

I'd tie the end to something outside like a fencepost and then start walking the line off to see what it looks like toward the end of the spool.  If it looks bad after you have walked 30 yards or so I would respool.

what lb test? it would make a difference to me. 12/15 I might chance it 8 and under ... no way 

I recently saw a video where a guy would take line that is kinked , fold his leather belt in two, pull the line through  to smooth out the kinks. I havent tried it  yet.

I use the above when I'm fishing riprap from the Dam and embankments while on foot. Sometimes use a line conditioner. The Best.
