  1. Congrats!! That's a pretty fish!!
  2. Hi I would like to dredge up this thread in search of someone or somewhere that can make a color of 2.75"-4" tube that I can't find anywhere
  3. The native spotted bass at Ray Roberts are absolutely beautiful....they don't get much bigger than 3-4lb but the markings on them are just so pretty
  4. I continue to discover the joys of ultralight fishing. Spent about 2 hours in my usual spot tonight until the state parks police fussed at me for where I was standing, said I have to be on the pier after a certain hour. Funny cause I've had whole conversations with him while I was standing on that same rock...after midnight...while I was fishing. Whatever, I still caught 3 bluegill, 2 crappie, three spotted bass, two largemouth, and a smallmouth. One of the better numbers days I've had in a while and catching decent bass on tiny line is tons of fun.
  5. I discovered the joys of ultralight fishing last night. Caught about 10 little crappies and a dozen or so bluegill in 90 minutes on a little Creme tube. Its just automatic with that thing, every cast = bites

That might be more than I've caught all year. Catch rates that we dream of down here...Awesome!!
  7. I had the same experience my first time on a boat fishing for black bass. Me, in the back, with my spinning gear. That was the day I was sold on the baitcaster and my first time using one. Wound up tossing a c rig all day and then getting the boat's big fish at the very end. When you're used to fishing downsized baits on the shore it's a totally different experience with different habits. Basically forces you to either speak up or try something new
  8. Think about your shad. What's your shad like? I wanna meet that shad! Doo Dah Doo Doo!
  9. Probably a combo of the above, just a matter of what the forage will support and why. I do think that changing how we harvest/practice CnR would change a ton. If you're hearing contemporary reports of big fish from your dink zone though...might not be an issue with the fishery but more about where/how you're on it. I know my home lake has giants but from the shore I can only really present to them properly 5-10 times a year if I'm lucky. Going on two years of good luck and I'm really dreading it when that dries up.
  10. Thanks! I'm still in shock
  11. So many things in this thread that I also think about a lot. Stocking fish in habitats we know they won't survive. Climate change. The 95% of Texas that is private property I wish I could fish. Fishing the way @king fisher does sounds like a dream - maybe someday. Right now I'm just happy to catch em at Ray Roberts about as good as anyone in the pressured areas. I've already caught more 6+ than I did in '22, hopefully that's a good omen
  12. A great lot of it for sure
  13. I think doing something out of spite for no real gain is kinda dumb anyway, but intentionally consuming extra PFAS to 'own the bass fishermen' (or whatever) is some kind of galaxy-brain 9-D chess move. Those brain cells are workin overtime for sure. That said, I love seeing people take bass up to about 4lb...makes more forage available for more 5+ fish. When we start seeing people keep the big breeding fish though...that's a bit of a problem
  14. Thanks! I don't often get a good story to go with a PB, usually just a run of the mill catch. It wasn't a fresh bait or line so I'm sure it's been waiting a while to get free
  15. Well sportsball was disappointing so I decided to try some night fishing. Most of my good Largemouth catches last year revolved around full moon which we are approaching. So it seemed like a great time to go out and ... shatter my Smallmouth PB? I was out for about an hour of casting, about to leave when I was rolling the lipless where I always do. Felt a heavy thump and a HARD kick...followed by that ominous sensation of line being rubbed on something. I know this set of rip rap like my bedroom floor; there's not a snag there. However, it is post-holiday weekend...someone else's junk. I sit there and try all my little "get free" tricks to no avail and decide to just let out 7-10 long pulls of line and see if the fish could get us out. Success. My red eye shad was hooked with one barb right in the corner of its mouth, along with the rogue crankbait that done the mischief and a big ole wad of monofilament. Whole thing was probably a five minute ordeal. Most time and slack line I've ever had in a fight. Now I have a PB (4lb 1oz), a story, and a free crankbait. I always said I would lose it a bit if I caught a decent Smallmouth down here...I'm about 40 minutes post fish and am just now calm. You can see it on my face lol. I can't believe it
  16. Sounds like it's a frogs-only sort of place this time of year LOL it was weedy when I went in December! Ray Roberts is full of Eurasian Milfoil right now sadly so I'm used to fishing with that and a healthy level of filamentous, not for the faint of heart nor exposed of hooks. Sorry it didn't work out better, give it a shot in the winter
  17. Just call me Josh Jones
  18. I have a high res version if you want it. I was just out to night fish with my buddy and happened to see such a painting in the sky. Love it when it does that.
  19. What in the heck is this? Flathead? Bullhead? It slammed a chatterbait and was very well behaved getting off the hook
  20. I know I've posted this spot in here before but this view just doesn't get old. I get to see this any time I go night fishing (and the weather cooperates).
  21. got my first ever buzzbait fish this morning while ponding, taught my friend how to use a baitcaster and he got a few. i can see why topwater is such a loved technique, I hardly ever fish like that but it is fun for sure. i need a nap
  22. Got this and a couple little spotted bass this morning. Gonna be back tonight and then ponding in the morning ?
  23. time's a flat circle, burritos are just ravioli with spanish or portugese subtitles depending on your view. meaning will dissolve and entropy is coming for us all. might as well keep fishing someone once said that country clubs and graveyards were the worst wastes of prime real estate. i tend to agree with him. furthermore golf courses in the desert are a monument to man's arrogance and they should not exist
  24. Lots of 832 folks here, myself included. It's the consistency plus working properties for me. It ties knots nicely and stays very smooth. Very consistent from spool to spool. I use the coastal camo and color bleed isn't such an issue. I haven't used any of those others mentioned by OP but I hear good things about the x9. I landed on the 832 after trying probably 7 or 8 others. It's the only one that didn't give me any reasons to keep searching for better.
