  1. Grab a Tatula 100 and put a shallow spool on it. I've done it to 4 different Tatulas so I can use 15# braid without the line digging in. I bought my Tat 100 for $150 canadian and the spool was another $50. They are coming out with a new Tat 100 pretty soon so I'd wait for that one with all the "hyper" stuff and a cool new shape.
  2. I store the reels in the box during the winter. Being able to stack them looks clean and saves space in a drawer.
  3. That's too bad, thanks for giving it a try!
  4. I'm looking for a new spinning reel and noticed the Pfluegers use a screw in type handle. I'm wondering if they are the same threads as a Daiwa or Shimano, I couldn't find anything from Google and like the ability to customize my reels a little to keep them interesting. Thanks!
  5. I switched to a 6:1 this season for moving baits and prefer it over the 7 speed reels. Unless you fish with Mono then I like a faster reel to pick up line Stretch.
  6. I use Mono leaders with braid with good success.
  7. I have the Ray's shallow spool for the Tatula 150 and it's a long cast spool which would be terrible for skipping. I also have the Ray's spool for Tat SV and the inductor moves, it's great for skipping but as stated it wouldn't be ideal for flipping.
  8. I always use them for crankbaits for easy lure changes, never had an issue with them. I also like them for when I'm driving home I can remove my bait and hook the snap into my lure clip on the rod. If I'm fishing often I'll leave my reel on that rod and line snapped on the rod so I can head out the door quicker.
  9. 1/8 and 1/4 worms weights. Drop shot is all lead cause I lose them far too often.
  10. Just bought my first 5:1 last month, new Revo Winch and I will never go back to cranking with a 6 or 7 speed like I used to. So much easier and runs them the perfect speed. As a Daiwa guy I'm very impressed with this Abu reel.
  11. I think they're more common in the west and considered a junk fish. Lots of fun to catch though, lots over 20" and they eat the same lures as Bass up here.
  12. Catching these squawfish from the bank just to feel the tug until the lakes around my place melt.
  13. Finally got my Winch on the water, I threw it on an Evergreen Combat Stick MH/MF rated 3/8-1 1/4. I tossed a Berkley Dredger 25ft dive depth and 1 1/8oz. It was crazy windy and the reel threw the lures alot farther than my Tatula 150 without much trouble as long as I used a little thumbing. I started experimenting with all kinds of cranks and it handled them so well this is going to be my full time Crank reel for everything 1/2oz and up. My biggest worry was that the retrieval speed would be too slow but the 23ipt is actually perfect. It's spooled with 15lb BG Mono and will probably stay that way for the season.
  14. I'd keep using the weedless paddletail like you've been doing, it's one of my favourite ways to fish.
  15. Check online or your local tackle shops to see which one goes on sale or is cheapest. I'll think the Fuego has the largest frame so that would be my last choice because I love palmability.
  16. I run 30lb braid on mine and it cast well with the brake dial in the middle and spool with a tiny amount of side to side play. It's a great reel for fishing off my Paddle board where there's risk of losing my combo but that's about all I use it for.
  17. Thanks for the replies, the only centrifugal brakes I know are from my Revo4 SX and they're pretty straight forward. Going to test this new one out next week when I fly south where there's water that isn't froze.
  18. I picked up a Revo Winch and need some help adjusting the brakes. Google keeps showing me how to adjust the locking version but mine don't seem to lock into place and I'm worried I'll break the system if I push harder. I'm wondering if there's no internal adjustment at all. Any help would be appreciated.
  19. I'm pretty happy with the distance, it's a whippy rod and flings them well. I bank fish alot with that combo.
  20. I fish my underspins on a casting rod. Quantum Smoke S3 Medium Xfast rated 1/4-3/8. Fishes more like a ML as you could probably tell by the rating and has some good flex in it. Paired with a Tatula SV, shallow spool and 15# braid. Also use this combo for light cranks. Not sure if that's budget enough or not but it is quality and versatile enough for different applications so it makes it worth it to me.
  21. Steez because I like aluminum frames.
