  1. I wanted to try the Tatula SV 70 but grabbed an Alphas SV for the same reason.
  2. Why not let him try the one you already have. I mostly run Daiwa reels and love them but I'd throw a newbie on my Revo SX just for the dual braking. Also you can over tighten the spool tension to make it impossible to backlash (at the cost of distance of course).
  3. I use a Qauntum Smoke S3 rod Medium/X fast rated 1/4 - 3/8 but can handle the odd 1/2 ounce. Even though it's X fast once you hook a fish it really gets a good bend in her. I use mine with a Tatula SV for small cranks, poppers, and Finesse swimbaits but it is right at 7ft.
  4. 30" IPT is my favourite, even for moving baits.
  5. The JDM Zillion will have the Aluminum gears you want, but I would try the JDM Zillion HD which should work well on your Flippin Stick. I don't own one though it's just what I'd be buying.
  6. Straight braid can often get tangled in the treble hooks on cranbaits, a leader prevents this. Also if I'm dropshotting and get stuck I only lose the 6ft leader not 1/4 of my spool. You can also retie your lures more often without running your braid down as fast.
  7. Mine surprised me how far it throws lures, I thought they would be more over braked. I also keep zero spool tension and back the brakes off alot and instead of trying to bomb a cast just swing at like 80% and let it do its thing.
  8. Finesse swimbait on 1/4 oz head Mid diving crankbait Dropshot
  9. Major Craft MS-1 Heavy Cranking Stick and some Berkley Dredgers. The rods been on my radar for long enough to make me pull the trigger.
  10. Not wearing a life jacket doest put others at risk. People should have the freedom to make their own decisions and deal with the risks.
  11. Was just fishing weightless wacky Worms on my tatula SV this morning. I put a Ray's Studio long cast shallow spool in it with 15# braid. Love that reel to death, I keep the sv spool for mono when I'm trout fishing.
  12. The Curado will be the safest bet out of the 3 of them. Love my Tatula 150 on a heavy rod though.
  13. Piscifun Alloy M is really good but the Torrent is junk. Those are the only 2 I've tried.
  14. I'd take the Tatula 150 over the SV (I own both) because you said you wanted to use 50lb braid. The 150 was my second reel ever and I never found problems learning with it. My first reel was a picifun which was a pain in the butt.
  15. I use 10 and 15lb for moving baits. I find it very stretchy and don't like it for jigs and such.
  16. Kk 7:1 it is, thanks for the replies.
  17. Hey guys, I'm about to pick up the newer Tatula SV for a Medium Light casting rod and stuck between gear ratios. Ill be using it for light underspins, shallow cranks and squarebills in the 1/4 oz weight. Normally id grab a 7:1 which would pick up 30" of line but with the SV reels a 7:1 picks up 28" and the 8:1 grabs 32". Should I get one slightly faster than I'm used to or slightly slower. Or am I just overthinking this, Thanks!
  18. I really appreciate the good info. I own 2 Abu Garcia IKE rods which I love but they are very stiff, gonna look into the winch rods though. I also had the Levante EMTF on my radar I just thought it was a little long. Now I did quite a bit of reading into the the Dobyns last night and they have so many good reviews that I'd really like to grab one and see what this brand has to offer. I do prefer 7ft rods for my bank fishing needs so the 704 Sierra that ironbjorn had mentioned seems like the rod I want.
  19. Never tried a Dobyns, I'll look those up right away.
  20. I'm looking for a multipurpose bank fishing rod for reaction baits. I don't think I've tried a rod that's not fast or x fast before, just been mono line on treble hook lures for that forgiveness. I fish mostly in the 1/2 ounce range but I have one favourite crankbait that weighs 3/4 ounce and would like a rod able to cast up to that weight comfortably. Wondering if you boys have any suggestions. I did run across one rod that seems pretty perfect the megabass destroyer madbull but it's very expensive and I am more comfortable buying $200 rods. Thanks!
  21. I was looking at the cardiff and the IPT are 23 vs the calcutta 200 was 27. I like using faster reels with longer handles and big knobs to make up for the lower torque. Never thought of a fast reel making the bait lay on its side though.
  22. The calcutta seems like the reel to get. It's my first swim bait reel, I'm a little hesitant to spend too much on a style of fishing I may not love but I haven't found a style I don't love so calcutta it is.
  23. Looking for a swimbait reel for baits under 4oz and I'd really like a round reel. I want it to have a good retrieval rate of 30-32 ipt and be as compact as possible as I have small hands. I've been looking at the abu C4 models not sure what size to get. Does anyone know if they all run the same frame and just have deeper spools or are they all different. If there's another option I'd check it out as well, budget of 250 or less would be cool.
  24. Thanks, added some huddleston 68 to my shopping cart with a couple 6 inch mag drafts.
