  1. In general, winter is tough for bass fishing. It's almost as bad as the end of summer. The hardest period of fishing down here is Sept/oct...when the fish are literally scattered everywhere, oxygen levels are at their lowest of the year, and baitfish aren't schooling. Second hardest is winter. Fish SLOW. Slow down, and then slow down even more. Just remember that during the winter, bass usually only have to eat once every 3 days or so.
  2. This. I bought AFLAC in addition. Took a while for em to pay up, but they paid.
  3. Yeah. Kind of a shame really. They're practically ALL doyo reels now no matter what brand lol
  4. No criticism of you at all...but wth kind of doctor are you seeing?! I'd see someone else man...seriously. My arm is like new Doing what he suggested literally cripples you. Modern biceps tendon repair is the endobutton with fixation screw. Hole is drilled thru radius at the original attachment point...tending is fed thru and held in place with a titanium "button" on the other side...then a bio-compatible screw is screwed into the hole in the bone.
  5. Currently, the Revo s and SX are "gen 4" reels. The only differences between gen 3 and 4 is they elongated the housing from spool to level wind. The result is a "sleeker" frame. They usually make small incremental changes...nothing earth-shattering. Gen 3 frame: notice it's "stockier" Gen 4: longer and lower.
  6. Grateful that here, we can have as many hooks as we want, so I rig mine up with 5 swimbaits. I always use a heavy rod, as it's three 1/4oz heads, and two 1/2oz.
  7. Got my new reel today. Instantly love it. Everyone here knows I'm a HUGE Abu Garcia fan. HOWEVER What. The. Hell is wrong with Abu NOT putting any kind of grease on their reel's gears?!?! Seriously. My new Max pro spinning reel? Zero grease. Zero. The new Revo SX? Zero grease. Any time I buy an Abu reel, the first thing I do is take it apart. I feel people shouldn't have to do that when they buy a $150 reel. I still love their equipment...the Revo series especially are SUPER smooth, but honestly...put some d**n grease on your reels before you sell them, Abu.
  8. Wish they did that here too. Too many people go catching spawning bass for photo ops.
  9. I had two surgeries on my right arm August of last year, and one on my left arm September of this year. Both arms..torn biceps tendons. I'd say do it asap. Spring bass isn't really going til March anyhow.
  10. Definitely curious considering the zenons JUST came out.
  11. If fish kills after tournaments are an issue, ban tournaments fishing. Wasting a natural resource that belongs to everyone for clout and trophies should be illegal. Commercialization is a good way to ruin a body of water for everyone not trying to make a buck.
  12. They tried that here years ago too. We overwhelmingly voted no. That's a thinly-veiled attempt to promote tournament fishing. The vast majority of fisherman (like me) couldn't care less about tournaments...and if there are limits, then they should apply to tournament fishermen too. They can ban tournaments instead if fish numbers are a concern in my opinion.
  13. I saw lol! Abu Garcia zenon is top of the line stuff
  14. Woah!!!!!!!!! I've been eyeballing those! Thanks for the heads up!!
  15. I switch to bluegill fishing. I leave the bass alone in the dead of winter. They're too on/off for my level of patience,so I catch myself dinner instead lol
  16. Yep super easy and they work. I have two. The blue over chrome and a red one.
  17. Blue over chrome rat-l-trap.
  18. I am an ER nurse. Have covid questions...I have more detailed answers than you care to know probably lol I'm going to steal this strategy...when my fiance sees my new Revo SX...I'm gonna have a lot of explaining to do lol
  19. I got a bunch of old vintage lures I'm looking forward to trying out. Heddon and Arbogast mostly. However...I'm still a hardcore finesse fisherman. It's what I've "thrown everything into", as I find it the most fun/relaxing...so I'll probably be sticking with my reverse Ned rigs and Powerbait pit bosses for 95+% of my fishing.
  20. I bought an Abu Garcia veritas tournament rod in 7'2", M/EF...and a Revo SX.
  21. Modulus strength refers to the relative stiffness of the graphite fibers themselves. 40ton is stiffer than 30ton, etc. They are more stiff, not weaker. However due to physics, a stiffer rod is inherently more brittle (which doesn't mean weaker necessarily) due to the trade off that MUST be made between stiffness and brittleness. A sheet of glass is very laterally stiff, but extremely brittle. High modulus graphite is stiffer than lower modulus, and therefore lighter and more sensitive. The brittleness is overcome by the use of flexible resins in higher end rods, or blending low and high modulus graphite fibers, or in the case of composite rods, blending it with fiberglass. However, with advances in technology (like 3M Powerlux), higher modulus graphite rods can be made to be extremely durable, and higher end rods almost always use high modulus graphite blanks. My lower end rods use 24ton. My mid-grade rods are 30ton. My high end rods are a 36/40ton blend.
  22. I've only witnessed two people breaking rods. One was trying to pull a snag free, and the other was setting the hook on a bass like he was a wannabe powerlifter at the Olympic games. The second person was an ex brother in law, and I told him "I told you..it's a 5 lb fish...why are you setting the hook like you're trying to yank him clean out of the water and straight into the boat anyhow?"
  23. I bought my fiance a Curado DC because she's new to baitcaster, but I use it for skipping lures under docks and overhangs. Skipping a baitcaster...I don't care HOW good you are...you WILL eventually backlash , and horribly. The DC prevents that.
  24. Got mine a week or so before Thanksgiving. Nothing in it I was interested in...it's mostly flannel shirts and blankets
