  1. Hey there, Anyone have this rod? The stats look strange, MMH XF, metal stinger tip, 8-14lbs line, 1/8-3/4oz. Sounds like half BFS, half M+??? Anyways, looks really interesting to me. Would I be correct in assuming the sweet spot covers 3/8-5/8 or is that too generous? Is it sensitive? Or does the stinger tip sorta dull the sensitivity? Do you find it an accurate rod or is it difficult to target cast with? Thanks!
  2. I own a number of reels and this is my favorite. Perhaps it is important to say that it is my most expensive reel, but not all my reels can be placed in an order of preference by their pricetag. It just feels right to me, the size, the way it casts lighter lures, heavier lures. I love the breaks most of all. I haven't opened it since the day I bought it. I do adjust the outer brake dial when necessary but they just work. And most importantly I can't *feel* the brakes like I can with mag brakes.
  3. This is my experience as well. I fished a whole season without one instance of the braid digging in after switching to 8 carrier. Wasn't a huge deal with 4 carrier, it's a complete none issue for me with 8. I'm generally using 15-30lbs.
  4. I think it comes down to personal preference and what someone is used to. I can't foresee a time when people on mass just decide they don't like spinning gear any more, people have been using that tech for years. I haven't been fishing that long and the first setup I purchased was a spinning outfit. A quick google search told me baitcasters had a learning curve. The spinning kit just felt awkward to me and I didn't know why. I still don't. One day I was thinking back to fishing as a kid and recalled my little rod had a spincast real, soon after I bought my first baitcaster and it was pretty instantaneous for me, it just worked. Did I backlash? Of course! but they were easier for me to deal with than windknots, and less frequent. These days I barely backlash and when I do I just pick it out, no fuss. Once a year or so I hit a tree and that is a different story! My analogy now is that casting is like stepping up to the plate in baseball. For me, I'm a righty and that's what using a baitcaster feels like to me. I can switch hit, but it will never be as natural as my dominant sided swinging motion; spinning gear feels much the same to me as stepping up to the plate left handed, I can do it, and sometimes there are advantages to doing so, but I'd prefer to hit right handed. I find it very hard to imagine a world in which some people don't have the opposite experience to mine and just feel more comfortable with a spinning rod in hand. Since picking up some "BFS" gear, ML rods really. I don't use my spinning kit as often, but I still use spinning at times. The biggest advantage spinning has for me is casting distance. With a spinning rod I can outcast the same lure with a comparable baitcast setup by a long margin. Conversely, I'm far more accurate with a baitcaster. So I use both. That is my experience, I have no reason to believe everyone else's will be the same. YMMV
  5. Thanks. I've had many helpful answers concerning this rod but none this specific. Sounds like the rod for me. Unless I can get my hands on an imported Steez Black Jack that is. *devilish grin* Unable to speak to the price drop. But there is a lot of talk about MB rod breakage, as I'm sure you well know. I broke a Levante (Gen 2) rod. It was my fault and happened in an accident. Oddly though, it was an accident that would not have, and DID not, break any rod by another manufacturer. The truth of the MB rod breakage, I'm sure, lies somewhere in the middle of all the talk. On the positive side the MB rods I have are really unique and fun rods to fish and I don't regret buying them, nor would I hesitate to buy another at this point.
  6. I've heard the p5 Blade is really soft and very moderate. It doesn't sound like what I am looking for. Just a versatile MH, fast enough to throw a good senko around, strong enough for a jig. But with enough bend to cast accurately and also throw some single hook moving baits like a chatterbait, even a spoon. The extra power of the SD is unnecessary from a cover perspective, but everyone seems to praise it's versatility and I'd love to be able to throw a weightless senko, all the way to a 6" magdraft. I realize that is a pretty unrealistic expectation. What do you think?
  7. I realize this is an old thread but I'm currently debating between the Japan Bandersnatch and the Super Destroyer (and possibly a dark sleeper but it is a little long. I guess I'm looking for versatility with a edge in bottom contact. What do you think? Thanks!
  8. LOL! Honestly I want to buy the rod just because of the name.
  9. Not much info out there on this rod. Anyone have any experience with it? What's it great at? Would this be a good do it all kayak rod?
  10. Thanks for your thoughts. I'm kinda looking for a MH junk fishing rod for my kayak, something I can throw a worm on, but also a chatterbait. Jack of all trades, not a master of one. I'm wondering if this rod might be too soft for me as well.
  11. Hello! Anyone using this rod? I'm considering one but I've heard mixed things. I guess I'm just looking for some overall impressions, especially with regards to versatility since I fish from kayak and shore. The length is definitely right ? Thanks!
  12. Ok, that is great. Texas rigs would be y primary goal here. Being on a kayak, or on shore I'm hoping for a rod that can do just about anything to a degree but primarily will throw t-rigs first and foremost. I've been thinking about experimenting with a mag draft this year too, and dark sleepers as well.
  13. what are your fav. things to throw on it?
  14. Hey, yes the Blade is on my list. I seem to have forgotten to put it in the original post. I haven't heard much about that rod. A few posts here and there in forums, mostly not overly favorable. Ild love it if anyone has any thoughts on this rod. The power and length seem spot on to me.
  15. Thanks for your help! Will it throw 3/8 total weight by chance?
  16. Me too. I have a MB Destroyer In a 6'3 length. It's great for treble hook moving baits, jerkbaits etc. Not enough leverage for single hook applications, miss alot of Hookset on that rod. Fun rod though. But I do agree with your sentiment, hard to find shorter rods these days. Thanks. From where?
  17. Do they have the lifetime warranty of an NRX+? I'll look into this as well. Thanks!
  18. I will look into this as well. thank you!
  19. Kayak guy here. Looking for a versatile MH rod, preferably around 6'8. I've narrowed it down to MB P5 Super Destroyer and Poison Adrena 6'11 M+ and Steez AGS Target Sniper. I fear the SD will be too heavy and the poison adrena too long. I've never used a Daiwa rod. I'd like to throw lighter texas rigs, 1/2 ounce to 5/8 total weight. Smaller, finess jigs, the odd chatterbait, the odd open water frog etc. Sweet spot around 1/2oz to 5/8oz, capable of throwing 3/4 at times. I feel like neither rod is ideal so I'm open to other suggestions. Edit: Any thoughts on the p5 Blade? THanks!
  20. Anyone have one? There was a lot of hype and then.... nothing... I'm on the fence between another Curado MGL 150, Okuma Hakai, or used Curado 70.
  21. I prefer my Piscifun reels to my Tat100.. whatever that means.
  22. thanks, i will look into this.
