  1. Found a lake called new brooklyn lake, on fishbrain some pretty big pickerel have been pulled out of the water. Went there and used rapalas, whopper ploppers, and various other lures. They seem very pressured and hesitant to bite lures. Would live bait work better? What rig do i need? Also when i was there i saw loads of bait fish jumping at the surface, my thought is they were being chased by something Can i catch bait fish there?? Or should i buy minnows
  2. What kind of fishing rod should i upgrade to? I have a penn fierce combo, the reel is amazing but the pole kind of sucks. I want something sensitive and will Be a good all around rod. Nothing too expensive but i want something that will do good. I fish ponds and lakes for bass, pickerel, etc. i use lures ranging from whopper ploppers to senko worms, what should i consider?
  3. You are most definitely right, i think that would work wonders. What sizes do i need to buy? Whenever i get online i always mess up on size bc i cant see it. Will be for ponds and some lakes, mostly bass and pickerel. What do you mean sharpen it? Shouldnt it come sharp? Also, would i need to downsize hook if im targeting smaller fish or should yhat work for most cases
  4. Its funny you say that, the area i am in has a lot of pickerel supposedly, so it very well might be. I didnt see the fish, just the splash of him attacking it. It has not actually disappeared under the water, just them biting at it and it stays. I know that if i yank it immediately i wont get hooked up, so i usually leave it and twitch it after letting it sit for a few seconds. The rod i use is a 6’6” medium heavy penn fierce combo, it has 10 lb braid. In a pinch sometimes i just tie it onto my 7’ ultralight 4 lb mono rod, and it does work well enough. I dont care what it is that is biting, i just want to catch a fish on the frog, it just attracts so much attention from the fish.
  5. Hey, i havd been using frogs recently because there are so many weeds where i fish, and it definitely attracts a bite from thd bass. Only problem is they dont get hooked, i dont know if its because they are too small or if they just dont bite hard enough. Could a trailer hook help possibly?
  6. Ayy i will definitely try it. Theres only really one good spot on the pond and i think i found a way too it. People have definitely been there before and tried fishing, i saw remnants of a box that had lures of some kind. Definitey hasnt been touched in a while though. There arw definitely bass in there, and in the area im in there are a lot of pickerel and bullhead catfish, at leSt so im told. Im also hoping for a snakehead but i doubt this pond will produce more than 1 or 2 dink bass. Just have to keep exploring ig South jersey if that helps at all.
  7. That does not sound like a bad idea at all. I went back today and explored a little bit more, I got closer to the hole where he was at and threw the frog to him, he bit it twice but didnt swallow it, I'm thinking he might be small? I think that he is probably trapped in that little pond, it is connected to the main lake and the path to it has dried up, and the creek coming out of the other end is connected from a pipe, but there is no way he can go down it. Anyways, he didnt get hooked up from the frog so I tried a senko and he didnt want that either. the portion of the pond he is in is I think very shallow, posting a picture in a reply to this message. I will have to try the keitech next time, how would I fish it? literally the only fishable part of the pond is that hole in the second picture, and thats where he has been for the past two trips i have been out. however i did see a fish splash the surface hugging the bank, i think it was hanging out there and its so shallow that when he swam off fast i was able to see it. in theory, theres less than 5 bass in the pond, but there are at least two First picture, without the pole, is the far side of the lake and is connected to the main lake, which is a pretty decent size. The tall grass is where the stream from the lake should be, but there must not be enough water. On the far right side of the picture with the pole is the hole he is hanging out at
  8. There definitely might be some bluegill but i didnt see them!!! Usually i at least see them hanging around in the shallows, and a spinner would definitely not work in this pond, at least in the fall with all the fallen leaves. thanks for all of the recommendations, i have some of the recommendations and will definitely try it this week. I have to at least catch one right??
  9. I found this little pond that google doesnt know about, and its very small. Attached below is a picture. I tried using my whopper plopper but there are far too many leaves on the surface, it justs get snagged on them and doesnt spin right. I then switched to a frog and got 1 bite, but he missed it. He slammed at the surface. I dont think anything big is there, but there definitely are some fish. I also saw a fish bust at the surface, he was hugging the edge. What would you throw? Also just to note, on the left there is like a little deep pocket that is not obstructed, and i can see the bottom, no visible activity there. On the close right there is a downed tree and shallow lily pads and weeds. In the back and to the left i assume is also a little bit deep? But thats where the bites and surfaces came from, is the back. The shore line is overgrown and the only access is where i took the picture from. the pond is connected by a very tiny stream to a lake, but that is on the opposite end of the picture, and looks to be replaced with tall weeds. On the side where i took the picture, there is a little pipe that drains some of the water out to a very tiny feeder stream that i cant even see because its so overgrown with weeds i hope all that made sense lol
  10. Just moved into rowan university and noticed a pond right by my dorm room, it has water pump that shoots air up and i dont believe that the lake is directly connected to any moving water. Could it hold fish? I suppose there is only one way to find out, but is there a chance there could be? On google maps it is called (storm water runoff pond) and is directly next to abbots pond. I have some exploring to do, but I dont know the odds for small ponds. There is also rowan pond nearby. If anyone has experience near the campus lmk
  11. Dang! I got it for free. My friend bought the combo and snapped the rod, so he gave me the reel. Anyone know of any good combos then? I dont need anything too fancy, just something good to learn on
  12. I get that!! My car is 20 yrs old, has hail damage as well, and i will most likely be its last owner, so i dont care too much abt it
  13. This would be my only baitcaster rod, should i find something else? And i dont think he listed the model number in his pics, assuming all guides are in good shape and whatnot, is this a good all around rod?
  14. Its a 7’6” medium power moderate action . do you know if thd reel is any good?
  15. What else do you need to know??
  16. Found a used st croix rod, selling it for 60. I just got a new bait caster reel, but no rod. So would this work well? Want it to work for multispecies, but predominately bass and pike.
  17. Going on vacation in ocean city maryland next week, anyone know about fishing over there? I was thinkingof going on a charter boat when im there, anyone have recommendations? How about fishing from shore? Would the bay be good or the oceanside? I dont care what i catch
  18. I dont know the size of the trebles, and none of the bait shops near me sell the single hooks. I want to order them online but have no idea what size to get. The little spoons i use catch everything from yellow perch to bluegill, of pretty much any size
  19. Its not necessarily gut hooking, its moreso that i dont want to have to unhook 3 trebles in a small fishes mouth.
  20. What size hook for a little pheobe spoon?
  21. Ok. That makes sense. Thanks!
  22. So texas rigged?
  23. Unfortunately some fish i have been catching recently are swallowing the hooks to deep, i am using pheobe spoons and mepps spinners, which have trebles, and i want to prevent it from happening. Should i replace with single inline hooks? If so what size
  24. Fishing a stream for smallmouth bass using a 4” senko, whats the best hook? A weighted one or just a plain hook? There are also a lot of fallen trees, so i lose a lot of rigs
