Why do I spend $$ on “nice” reels??
Quantum PT reels are worth every penny. Some 10 years ago Quantum received some backlash when changed their reels OEM maker for chinese ones, until it chose Banax, wich elevated the PT series quality.

Why do I spend $$ on “nice” reels??
To use high performance gear and fully extract all of their potential, there is a certain need of proficiency and very specific conditions. 2 years ago I tried a very cheap, crappy chinese reel, called Seaknight Falcon. My friend made fun of me, until actually fishing started and the Falcon simply casted way longer than his Metanium. I always carry a lurestar c9 air reel on my bass BFS setup, together my my custom cq51 BFS and my Tatula elite. The chinese reel simply landed astonishingly good fish, performing flawlessly for 3 years. Pinion support is a must have for high speed reels. For reels intened to big game freshwater fish, like the Zillion HLC series, a precise machining and CNC is way more important. Shimano use bearing supported pinions for several years (s-ship and x-ship), yet is unable to deliver a decent gearing aluminum alloy.

What lures do you always start with/go
Twitch baits, floating and sinking ones. They are able to work in both topwater and sub-surface erratic swim. The sinking ones, go by using countdown. Use them to probe if fish is more active in the waterline or deeper.

Abu Garcia Black Max Drag Problem
This is a superb value for money reel, but it's drag washeras are made of a cardboard-like material, one shimano called ''dartanium'', in the past. Very low quality stuff for the task.

Musky Reels - Daiwa Prorex vs Shimano Tranx 400 vs Abu Revo Toro Beast
Go for the Revo beast. A true big game compact reel. The Tranx is too much hype, actually the weakest of these 3.

how long does it take for all your Kayak stuff?
Some 20 minutes. And my yak is the same as yours.

8lb in rocks
My favorite BFS setup is loaded with 6lb (0.08mm) braid. Landed several +8lb fishes, in very rocky rivers streams. The only problem over such a tin braided line is the need of replacement after some 4 expeditions.

What's your favorite reel?
My Calcutta conquest 51 custom with floating BFS spool and mag brake.

Digitaka?
Trusty store. Brought my Alphas Air Stream Custom from them.

Why you should never go fishing without a spinning rod
I'm doing almost kayaking fishing only. Only baitcasting setups. Usually 3 or 4, one bass-bfs, another trout-bfs, one ML and a slow trolling one. There is no advantage for spinning reels in my usage. The loss of precision is unbearable.

Shimano Caius 150 HGB Experiences?
Very problematic reel, in no way or form, on par with the old caius. Low quality springs in the spool disengaging system, low-quality worm gear pawl.

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
Just saw it. That's what a call a very thick rod. I noted this is a trend on US scene bass. In easter I landed a 110-pounder Araipama, with a brazilian brand rod and every single bass bubba friend of mine, got astonished by the rod low thickness. Thicker blanks overall are just cheaper, cost-effective.

Best 3000 size spinning reel for $100 or less?
The previous one was welded in the reel frame. Are you really going to insist on this bshit? Really?

Best 3000 size spinning reel for $100 or less?
Tricky. Why not post the Stella 2019 review? https://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/stl19.html ''Now that's a surprise, and not the good kind. The 19' Stella SW comes with an externally mounted, plastic housed anti-reverse clutch. Yep, the design that for the past 18 years has been relegated to lesser Shimano reels from the Twin Power SW all the way down to the $35 Cazna FA.'' I'm just emabarassed... I really didn't want to expose you in such manner, but you are the one asking for it. Now, what you have tell me, doe?

Best 3000 size spinning reel for $100 or less?
It's funny because you disagree with me using data from someone who agree with me. Just it.

Best 3000 size spinning reel for $100 or less?
It's funny you disagree with me using Alan Hawk picture since he was the first one to denounce the downgrade in the AR clutch, in the 2019 Stella. This isn't an AR clutch on par with the Stella name.

Best 3000 size spinning reel for $100 or less?
Actually one of the most famous Brazlian ocean charter used them. Cap. Tuba. Very resilient reels, for the price. I prefer the white cage AR clutch than the cheap plasitc ones Shimano started using since 2019.

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
That's what I though before, but even for a bass rod, it's diameter is very high. Let me show you an example. Below is the Rapala Gold 8lbs, a very famous ''bass'' rod here o Brazil. I'm not arguing about ultrafinesse being only Trout-BFS rods, but a ultrafinesse rod having the same diameter as a shimano SLX, a rod with a very cheap im6/24ton blank.

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
Why a rod claiming to be utrafinesse has such a large diameter for the rod overall?

Best 3000 size spinning reel for $100 or less?
Ryobi Zauber or Zauber pro. Same reel as the Stella 2008.

Why Magnetic Braking System Than Centrifugal Braking On BFS reel?
That's make a lot of sense. Now I see that. Took my T100 spool and noticed the inductor cup has the same strutucture as the original spool in the PX68L. Thank you very much.
-
Why Magnetic Braking System Than Centrifugal Braking On BFS reel?
My PX68L has a mobile rotor or inductor cup. Brought It brand new and got a Ray's studio ultra bfs spool. The original spool, heavier for the present bfs standard, isn't a usual magZ spool. The rotor has a resistance to move out in a very MagZish manner. The Ray's studio ultrafinesse spool is a typical magZ one, with a plastic ramp and micro springs. Yet, the rotor moves out easier than in the original spool, in a MagVish pattern. Bellow is the ultrafinesse and the original spool. https://imgur.com/a/Imp3Sxj

Why leader on braid?
Abrasion resistance and to avoid the line being tangled in the treble hooks. For my finesse braids, these are a ultra-must-have.
-
Why Magnetic Braking System Than Centrifugal Braking On BFS reel?
I think you nailed it. Control by angular momentum exchange by braking blocks, in a situation where the speed is almost constant. MagV is more of a short-cast/pitchingish system. Since you quoted the Pixy series, what could you tell me about the PX68 MagZ finesse tuned? I'm curious about it, since it's rampless, but spring-loaded, by a bigger spring, almost the diameter of the spool. Maybe a Magforce Air precursor?

Why Magnetic Braking System Than Centrifugal Braking On BFS reel?
And yet it operated without attrition. Are you saying the SPR wasn't good enough over its proposal? It lasted only 2 years because of it very much specific niche, just like the Cardiff 50 DC series.
