Kastking Zephyr BFS reel- first impressions and review
I had one between 2021 and 2022. Casts like hell, somewhat under braked, plastic frame...

Daiwa Coastal TW80
Daiwa US don't even know what Magforce Air means. You can't have a decent staff, if you don't invest in better wages and training. The issue is a disseminated problem in US.

Daiwa Coastal TW80
There is no space for a mag-z inductor in the 300-size spool and frame.

First Bait-caster Reel Recommendations

If you run Braid to leader for pitching….
Around 30-100cm, in accordance with the rod size ant fish targeted.

Braid to fluoro for everything
I started in baitcasting using nylon, but braided line gained my confidence. Another reason for the leader is the braided getting tangled in the treble hooks.
-
Braid to fluoro for everything
All my gear are based in braid to leader/FC/Nylon. Lower lb braided is just terrible when abrasion is at play.

have you ever wondered why?
Commercial/merchandising interests, payola... Everything on Tackletour is good, if the company pay Cal's tax... Eerrr, payola.

Shimano Metanium Backlash Central
That's why I called it less noticeable on SVS brakes, since the blocks seem to deliver braking during all the spool spinning.
-
Shimano Metanium Backlash Central
It's physics. With an even number, the block's mass is dispersed evenly from the spool axis, uniformizing the spool spin and contributing to a more efficient braking(angular momentum shift). This effect is more noticeable on traditional VBS-like brakes. SVS seems to be a continuous action centrifugal braking, the ones in Doyo reels, the effect of angular momentum shift is less noticeable, but an uneven block distribution affects negatively the spool spin.

Shimano Metanium Backlash Central
The reel is a famous finicky one to get set-up. Try set the spool tension to the point of the lure weight pulling the line down, with the rod in a vertical position. Always let an even number of blocks activated. 4 for heavier lures and let the rest be controlled by the plate-dial.

Tatula SV issue
Only a full clean-up and inspection on the pinion and main gear could point what exactly rests the problem. Tatulas (100 and older) with that bearing under the pinion gear are very susceptible to rusting.

Thanks, but the info isn't on par with your kind description. Just a first impressions thing.

Show off your Stuff
The newest acquisition by the resident Shimano hater on bassresource. Decent, but I'm not really impressed by it. The cheapness of the brake dial show how its truly a Shimano reel. The Tatula Tw80/SV70 (bfs spool), Revo ALX (bfs spool) and the Kestrel Elite are way better reels.

San Francisco River Expedition 3: after the last dam before the sea.
I was bitten almost a year ago, when putting it on the cooler. The White Piranhas have frenzied behavior, but it never bites you if you hold them by the lure. most bites are from when they are spinning because of strong winds or the shaking-frenzied behavior.

Spinning/jerkbait rod - correct balance point? reel recommendation?
A shallow spooled one, to have a better IPT and line slack control, to jerk and slash lures with more precision. Daiwa Luvias, Emeraldas, Revros...
-
Current rod and reel grouping
1- Conquest 51 Custom + Acehawk Victory rod (PE0.4) 2- Conquest BFS HG + Custom Fiberglass trou rod (6lb) 3- Daiwa Tatula 100 + Brazilian OEM Brand Rod (12lb)

How to keep line tight on a baitcast reel
That's not a problem to me in baitcasters. But sometimes looseness/slack accumulates in the spool, creating bird nests.

Brand loyal with reels?
Its very daiwaish. Trying to get some bucks over added value features. Just *** like the magsealed gears limited user maintenance capabilities.

Vale dos Mestres (Master's Valley) San Francisco River Expedition
Latest expedition for 2023. Extreme windy conditions, working several BFS lures on its heavier side, around 4-5g. Few catches, no trophy-worth one. Tested my CQ BFS on field for the first time. Very smooth and super caster. Yet, the side plate is not as tight as in the CQ 51/51S. Very cheap for a pricey reel. Pricey and cheap... A true modern Shimano reel. Brand loyal with reels?
No. Calcutta/Conquests (06) and Daiwa (Pixy PX68L, Tat100, Lexa 400HD, Millionaire CT SV and Alphas ASC), Doyo/Abu Garcia (Rexo EXD) and Banax/Quantum/Kastking (Kestrel Elite, Quantum Icon, generic chinese OEM. Knowledge is power, the brand-loyal is just making a fool of himself, in ignoring problems on its beloved gear company. This is the new Shimano. Pricey, yet cheap gears. I agree with you. Shimano is even more flamboyant in the matter, since its extreme fondness of giving hyperbolic/pompous names to things as simple as plastic and cardboard.
