  1. I learned on baitcasters so it's second nature to me. Spinning gear was the tough one for me to learn. Anyway, I saw Bill Dance once teaching how to cast as BC and in addition to adjusting the brakes properly and all of the above mentioned things, he says when making a cast with a BC to turn your wrist inward as you are making the cast, much like a quarterback passing a football. I used to have lots of trouble with BC's until I started doing this. Hope this helps. Tight lines!!!

Seems every time I order from BP my order will come in multiple shipments even though every item says 'In Stock'. My orders from Tackle Warehouse most always come in one shipment. Don't know what the deal is but it's very frustrating. Anyone else have this problem?

The entire month of April here in central Virginia a Dudley Wacky rig was the ticket for me. I figure I'll throw it until the fish get tired of it. Then what? A Brushhog maybe? Or a lizard since they will probably be either on beds or very close? When should I start throwing a chatterbait?
  4. Like any other job it has it's ups and downs, good days and bad days.
  5. I recently retired from a local state park after 12 years and I would venture to guess that at least a third of the lures in my tackle box are lures I've found at the park over the years. Either left on the ground around the lake or hung up in a bush etc... around the lake. I once found a Ugly Stik rod and baitcast reel after we'd dropped the lake level down about 8 ft. for winter maintenance. At another lake one day I snagged into a snarl of braided line and when I pulled it up there was a nice spinnerbait on the end. This had to have been from someone fishing from a boat as there was no bank fishing access at this lake.
  6. I use these too but here lately I've been losing a lot of fish. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
  7. That is a great video Glenn. I love fishing a chatterbait and always want to learn more. Thanks and tight lines.
  8. 6'6" Vengence medium action rod Abu Garcia Blackmax spinning reel 30 lb Power Pro braid w/20 lb Vanish fluro leader. Overkill I'm sure but like I said, just learning.
  9. Just wondering what some of your favorite drop shot lures are. I'm new to drop shotting and trying to learn all I can. Thanks.
  10. Took it apart today and it was very dirty. Cleaned it with alcohol and it still randomly turns backwards. I'm thinking it may be the anti-reverse bearing/sleeve?? A $5 part. Thinking I will order it and see what happens. It's an older Silvermax reel, probably 12 years old.
  11. Thanks a bunch guys. I think I'll tackle it today since it's raining.
  12. What do you guys use to clean excess buildup of oil and grease from your baitcasters?
  13. Yes, Delaware. It started doing it back in the dead of winter when it was cold. This morning when temps were in the 40's it did it. This afternoon with temps in the 70's I could not make it do it. Makes me believe it's just dirty and built up crud from oil over the years.
  14. That's what I did. Got a new one, was going to keep this one for a backup. Just tinkering with it. Thanks Bulldog!!
  15. I have an old Abu Garcia Silvermax and recently the anti reverse has stopped working sporadically. I'm assuming over time it's gotten dirty and maybe too much oil build up over the years. My question is, and I'm assuming here, is the anti reverse located under the plate on the handle side? And if so, is it much of a task to take that plate off to clean it and put back on? Thanks fellas!!
  16. I'm in Buckingham County...central Va....and fish seem to do the same thing when wind is out of the east or NE.
  17. I think I've heard Bill Dance say the same thing.
  18. Just wondering if any of you notice you seen to have better luck when the wind blows from a certain direction? I don't know if it's coincidence or just my imagination but it always seems the fish bite the least when the wind blows from the north or east.
  19. Thanks guys. I was wondering if it is the cold weather effecting them like it does a lot of other things.
  20. So, I recently respooled a couple of my baitcasters with 20 lb Berkley Vanish fluro and then noticed that they tend to reel backwards, not all the time but occasionally, even with the handle engaged and thumb bar up. Both handle and spool with freely turn backwards. I wondered maybe if the cold weather is affecting them so I warmed them with a hair dryer and they seem to do ok. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  21. Yes to all of the above. I've recently gone back to the Mepp's Aglia and Mann's Jelly worms. I still have a Jitterbug and a couple Torpedo's in my tacklebox that I use from time to time. Time tested and proven.

Ok, bought some of the Dudley Wacky worms to try. I've been using Senko's for wacky rigging but thought I'd give the Dudley's a shot. I do realize plastic baits are not durable but I've lost 3 Dudley's and landed only 4 fish. I even tried them with the rings. Anyone have any solutions to make them last a little longer? Thanks.
  23. Hi, I'm MFowler's brother, the one with the Hook2 4X. I might add that this unit does this even if the trolling motor is not running or is unhooked from power. I wired the unit to a separate battery this morning and get the same picture my brother posted. At this point he and I are both clueless.
