  1. I hope this is the right place to asked this question. My brother has a 9.9 hp Mercury tiller steer motor, 3 yrs old, 15 hrs run time, plus fuel tank, line and flush muffs he's wanting to sell. What would you guys say it's worth?
  2. No sir!!! My inventory of rods and reels number only 10 or 12 and that's counting both casting and spinning total. I do however have one reel that is high speed that I do use for topwater stuff (didn't realize it was high speed until after I'd bought it and even it gets used for other stuff) but otherwise all my stuff is multi-use. All my rods are either mediums or medium/heavy's and do double duty most of the time.
  3. Last Wednesday it was 80 here so my brother and I fished. Didn't get skunked but close. The next day we had snow and 30's.
  4. Just curious. How long do you make your leaders when connecting to braid on spinning gear? I've heard some anglers say no more than a rods length to keep the knot from going through the bale. Then some say it doesn't matter and use 8+ feet of leader and let the knot go through the bale. Just curious what you guys think. Oh...and I use either the FG or Albright knot. Thanks in advance.
  5. Someone else already said you'll get as many different answers as there are users on this one. That being said, I use PowerPro on both spinning and casting.
  6. I bought some Strike King Contra 15 lb. Fluro from WallyWorld yesterday. Only going to use it for leader line. Just wondered if any of you have used it and what do you think of it compared to Vanish? Thanks.
  7. One of my problems is if I go for a period of time and don't tie an FG I forget which lines to pull to put tension on when I seat the knot. If I pull the wrong ones it's back to the drawing board and start all over.
  8. Deep diving cranks. Some I bought, some I found. And a few hard jerkbaits.
  9. Thanks guys. The Youtube videos aren't very clear on what constitutes "one wrap".
  10. I can tie the FG knot pretty well after some trial and error. Early on after locking it in I was finishing it off with 6 or 8 half hitches until I learned the Rizutto finish. Anyway to my question. What is considered "one wrap"? Is "One" considered each time you go over-under your mainline above and below the leader? Or is "one wrap" considered every other 'over-under the mainline? Sorry, there was no easy way to word this question.
  11. I'm in the 'If it's good enough for mainline it's good enough for leader' group. JMHO.
  12. I grew up using pistol grip rods. As a matter of fact I have two 5' 6" Ugly Stiks in my barn with pistol grips that haven't been used in years. I will say my casting accuracy was better with them as they were shorter and as someone already mentioned, they were harder on the wrist than the new long handles.
  13. So...I'm stuck sitting at home in subfreezing temps watching You Tube videos and I see this knot called the SC knot. Looks simple enough. I'm already adept with the FG and Alberto knots but for the lack anything better to do I thought I'd give this SC a try. I followed the videos to the letter....or at least I think so..wet and tighten with all my might and the fluro leader still slips. Oh BTW, I'm using some old 50 lb. Viscious Braid and 20 lb. Berkley Vanish fluro. Do any of you use this knot and if so what might I be doing wrong? I'm not planning to change up from the FG and Alberto, only playing around with this.
  14. I do the same thing. I use snaps (not snap swivels) for the same reason...plus I'm admittedly lazy when it comes to changing lures. As you said, I want to get it changed and line back in the water asap! JMHO
  15. I do like it because it's so thin and goes through the guides better but I do have to say it's a knot I have to tie at home and not on the boat.
  16. I had the same issues with the hitches working loose. I learned the Rizzuto finish and haven't had a problem since.
  17. I can tie both the FG and the Albright knots. Just can't make up my mind which one I like most. I'm sure this is like Ford vs Chevy or Washington vs Dallas when it comes to which is preferred. My thinking is the FG will be a 'Tie at home knot' since it takes longer for me to tie and the Albright will be a 'Tie in the boat knot' since it's quicker and easier to tie. JMHO.
  18. Thanks man!!! I 'might' have one day stumbled on to it.
  19. Straight PowerPro for cranking, topwater, and spinnerbaits.
  20. I tried many methods and was about ready to give up until I ran across a Youtube video from Lost Horizon Fishing. He made it look so easy I had to try it and now I'm hooked. I did learn a different way to finish it off called the Rizzuto finish. Haven't had one fail me yet. JMHO.
  21. How did you do this? I can't find it on my Dell desktop.
  22. Mepps Aglia and Creme worms with the double hooks and spinner up front.
  23. Well I just learned one thing and that is I can tie the Alberto knot while I am THINKING about tying the FG. Never knew it was that easy!!
  24. Sounds like about what I'm doing. Straight braid for moving baits on casting gear and braid to fluro on spinning using the FG knot for connection. What color braid do you use?
  25. For you guys that fish braid to leader on your baitcasting gear, how do you like it and how well does it work going through the rod guides? What knot do you use connecting the two lines? I've been fishing straight braid on my casting rods but today I noticed when fishing gin clear water I could plainly see the moss green color PowerPro braid in the water. I'm wearing polorized sunglasses and could see it plain as day. Thanks in advance.
