  1. That makes sense, but I think you'd be surprised at how much fun it is to catch things on video. Net sounds like a great idea given how many treble hooked fish you catch, I'm thinking that's in order for me as well. So many lures, so few hours in a day ? Yeah this is what I was thinking as well, Katie has such a wonderful and unique way of fishing for Bass......the numbers, the locales, the canoe/Spartan aspect. You have so many of your most precious fishing memories captured forever in video. To me that's priceless. These amazing catches that we are occasionally blessed with happen within a minute, and before you know it the moment is in the rear view mirror. You still have the high from catching the fish for a few days, week, etc., but you can relive a special fish in a decade if you want. I do get it, and I know you get it when it comes to editing the darn things. That said, to me getting a special moment on film yields a high similar to catching a fish.....combining the two is a match made in heaven.

  3. Yo Yo it or Vomit Comit it and have a good understanding of the cover's depth. That said I don't think I've ever been stuck on a rock before. I'm trying to keep the bait from swinging around a limb or similar thing. Since the hook likely isn't snagging in rocks, the Project Z weedless series wouldn't help. I'd assume your baits are lodging themselves in between rods or something. If I know I'm fishing over a laydown that rises up to 5ft in the water column in 10ft of water, I'm throwing past the cover, counting to about 4 or 5 seconds, then lifting the rod several feet while reeling in the slack which kills the bait and allows it to flutter down a few feet, but still right above the tops of the whatever cover I'm targeting. You'll stick tick the tops of stuff with this method because obviously things aren't exact, but you'll have much better control over where you bait is.
  4. Given your adventures with the canoe, and the special places you get to fish, perhaps a GoPro is in order. I know weight is a concern for you, but with a chest rig and the cam, it barely weighs anything. You catch too many fish for pics, you need a video for all of them ? You can learn quite a bit by reviewing your footage at least if you are like me and really get lost in the moments and excitement. When it gets exciting, things become a blur it seems.
  5. I try to do that Katie when the fish make it obvious what they want, other times excitement takes the wheel ? What I really enjoy about suspended jerkbait fishing is the nuance to it. Some days they hit on "slack line", other days right when you begin the next jerk. Some days they want it paused longer or jerked harder. The amount of continually input in jerkbait fishing keeps you really plugged in and paying attention. I can just dream off working a T Rig.
  6. What Edge box for all sized Jerkbaits? These things are darn expensive.
  7. If so that's terrible human behavior. Changes the way I interpret the results dramatically as well.
  8. What is a fishing line superior to braid Alex ? @T-Billy
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the second very aggressive fish that comes in is a SM correct? Wonder how long fish hold on them like that......might be exposing a cheating method at least on the local level ?
  10. Exactly, I generally have an idea of what I'm casting over cover/depth wise with sonar so I'm trying to bring up my rod a few feet.....kill it while reeling in that slack, bring up the rod tip a few feet....killing it while reeling in slack, etc. Kind of like the Vomit Comit, I just want to tick the tops of the cover after I start the next rod lift. So much of the Yo Yoing I'm doing is coming from the rod.
  11. Lol, got out there with all my gear, started fishing and catch two really quick fish.....motor died for good. Used a net to paddle home ? To me this is peak White Whale season, fish were biting, Academy was open....250 later I'm back on the water and caught another 10 fish before I called it. Lots of 2-3lb fish, and the biggest was about 3.5. This 110jr +1 is almost paintless on one side, perhaps getting close to 100 fish over the last month on it knock on wood. 8 came off the Jerkbait, 4 came off the Flashback Mini.
  12. I bought a dedicated setup for chatterbaits I love them so much.... Alpha Angler 7'3 Moderate Fast....Glass tip, composite bottom section. JDM Zillion SV TW 1000 6.3 15lb PLine Ultimate Fluorocarbon Rod really matters I've found, lots of specific chatterbait rods, and this is one technique that really benefits from a tailor-made rod.
  13. I don't have lots of muck on the bottom, rather hard cover like laydowns, xmas trees, boulders. I'm not trying to touch bottom per say, I just want to have that fluttering down effect, and sometimes it dips down into the tops of the cover, many times generating a strike as it deflects off it. I imagine the technique you are describing is something like working a blade bait, or lipless. Just bouncing it off the bottom a few feet and then letting it come back to bottom.
  14. Set in cement at #3 in terms of why I leave the house every time out, that said once on the water #2 becomes important, and if #2 isn't going well, #1 becomes epically important lol.
  15. Knock on wood Bob, I think you just might be correct! I took it home last night, tore it down and was shocked the amount of water down in the shaft and inside the cover. Drained it all out, and just took it down to the lake to test, smooth as silk. Fingers crossed I can post a picture of a pounder later ?
  16. A weedless model of the Chatterbait is one incredibly difficult bait to get stuck. I fish chatterbaits extensively in and around heavy cover, and the only way I get the brushguard Project Z Weedless series stuck is when I'm yo yoing, and I wrap the line around cover. Both are two of my favorite baits and baits that are tied on full time when it's warmer. Perhaps I should fish them more now.
  17. Agree 1000%. I was a young foolish teenager that had the Cahaba River less than 50yds away from the lake's dam, many were just ran back across the dam and dropped into the lake. My fishing mentor and I would catch some at the big lakes and bring them home in live wells. All this stuff is majorly taboo now, however when I stocked these Spotted Bass, the Alabama Bass didn't even exist in academic/scientific world. This wasn't taboo 25 years ago. I don't think even biologists have a great idea of what's going on considering lakes are constantly going through ebbs and flows, booms and busts. Shock fishing only captures a fraction of what's going on, and most times the biggest fish that are deep aren't shocked up. I have no doubts Alabama Bass have hurt certain fisheries in regard to SMs, and the sub species, and to much lesser extent contrary to one single example in NC, LGM. The stuff we know in concrete that was released decades ago is still largely the only stuff that is set in concrete.
  18. The viewer lost big time tonight, like many CFP games in past years. We got spoiled in the first round, but this often how they turn out. This might be the worst tail whipping in CFP history by the end of the night, stay tuned for history ?
  19. Awesome, you got to post a pic of your rig.....I'm looking at exactly that setup....a 17ft aluminum restored tracker
  20. Game is over easily, you ain't missing a thing
  21. To be fair, the Natty was played Dec 3rd, 2022. SEC Championship game lol
  22. That's awesome, raised her right clearly! Love hearing the hands are feeling better, keep up that healing. They were looking like a train hit them in the pic you sent, now your catching toads ? Boat is bad timing, but it's forcing my hand into getting something that is proper for Captain Ahab, along with his friends like yourself. I'm thankful for this Jon boat, but my time with it is hopefully very close to coming to an end. LFG? Tactical Bassin, and BamaBass are the only videos I watch often.
  23. I was a primitive caveman when I first joined in regard to batteries and electronics in August, I'm currently at the neanderthal stage ?
  24. Thanks Kyle, and yeah that was gut wrenching the big fish that I'm pretty confident was the only fish on there in the beginning......I wonder how much the smaller fish contributed to the big fish coming unglued.....ahhhhh you play it back so many times lol ? Surface temps were 55.5d today. Another interesting thing from today, just in the few hours I was out there I watched the lake gain another several inches in viz. So many factors I'm sure go into this. Guy has 5acre pond south of me that is murky normally, during the freeze it was crystal clear. Guy has a cool YT channel called BamaBass.
