@Koz you’re just trading one headache for another. I just turned 70 and through the years have had too many boats to count from fishing pontoons, canoes, jon’s, deep V’s and Ranger bass boats and my current setup is the best,,,going forward. If you enjoy kayak fishing and tournaments you have a great setup now with all the equipment and accessories you’ve added, so I’d say enjoy it. Give it some time to become efficient and easy. You can chase perfection endlessly and end up poorer for it just to realize you had what you needed all along.

I had said “Always” previously and that’s still true but 99% of the time it’s the small, old school split tail. The 1% is a small swim bait of the complimentary color, but very rarely.

Fishing Erie we had just got back to the ramp with a couple nice smallies we were keeping. Pulled the boat in and tied up. I pulled the truck down and gave my brother-in-law a five gallon bucket so we could fill a cooler. Instead of filling it at the bottom of the ramp he was on the dock and as I walked back with the cooler I watched as he bent over, dipped in the bucket, filled it to the top and go face first into the water! Said he didn’t want to let go and lose the bucket 😂😂😂 To top it off as he stood naked by the truck putting on dry clothes a Coast Guard boat cruises slowly by on the channel with full crew on the railing shaking their heads. 😝😝 We still laugh at that one!

I’ve used a wireless remote on my AP120 and felt it was a constant “fidget” to control speed and direction. I like the variable speed idea but think I would prefer a dial of some sort over the wireless. Thinking this may be an upgrade to my 55# Newport come this Spring. Thank you. Very nice! So are you using a reostat dial or wireless remote? I’ve now watched a couple videos and most are using one or the other with the same Hobby Wing 880 solid state controller . Just depends on how you want to configure it. I assume you are still controlling direction by hand.

Thank you for the video. Sooooo this rig has to be “built” as it’s fished, unless it’s done as a (say) flouro leader and attached to a main line which could be prerigged ahead of time? I like it!

I’m sure at some point he’ll reply but you can always shoot him a PM. Pretty sure he’s up to his eyeballs in Christmas orders right now🎄 Is this assembly considered a grass jig, I assume. Can you call out the specific components?

Yeah I had to buy a new one as I had never owned a double blade. It’s almost too shiny 😝

I use a long double blade solo canoe paddle (280cm/110inches) because that’s what I’m used to coming from a kayak. Being 6’3” in a 40” wide canoe the length helps keep the oar in the water when stroking but I do hit the gunnel quite often. It is rather large and cumbersome but I have become accustomed to laying it out across my lap and unless the fight goes behind me I have no issues landing a fish, my reach helps a lot 😀 So yeah, your idea of rubber tape on the gunnel sounds like the likely solution! In the non fishing months it is good to at least be able to talk about it, thank you.

Yes unfortunately winter is here! I just finished up my Sportspal and had it out twice but now it’s in the garage too. I use a kayak paddle and the “rubber strips” you speak off sound like a great idea. Are you wrapping the paddle and putting them on the top gunnels or just the gunnels?

The next few lines are from Britt Myers about his latest MLF experience at Dale Hollow: ‘’Literally, I never fished anywhere today that I fished the first day,” Myers said. “I think those fish are just roaming anywhere from 4 foot to 30 foot. And I know it sounds crazy. I don’t understand that. It’s against everything in the bass fishing handbook. But that’s what’s going on.”

Yes you have to find /pattern fish but you have to have the ability to move too. The difference between 3/4mph and 6 is tremendous in even making it to your spots. You also see the pros moving, frequently miles to other productive areas,,,,,but not at 3mph against a head wind. Distance is unrelated between boats and kayaks. Pro boat fishing is not relevant to kayak fishing in the least. I’ve said nothing about rouge roaming at all. Having an “area” is more important than a “spot” to me. With the right pattern I can fish effectively any area that I can get to so staying in a “spot” is less productive once it’s fished through it. I know of no tournament kayak fishermen that fish only one spot, at least not long and when they move speed is vital, as @Koz stated. A spot is a quarter mile bank and an area is four/five miles of bank. That being said, spot lock becomes less valuable in the overall scheme of things. All in all I’d say a pedal kayak is of greater benefit in addition to a great motor than spot lock.
