  1. Thanks for all the input yall, I'm likely to try a combination of the work arounds yall have suggested. I'll try to get a pic up today. Interesting you've had this issue specifically with Pflueger @Striper9 Did I mention ins the 30 size?
  2. Maybe I'll try to send it off then, I'd have no idea what I'm looking at to know what needs work. I'll say I'm now curious about those micro bearings. Hard for me to drop money like that seeing how they are cheaper elsewhere with a different name and for all we know made in the same factory - anything made in China can be sold from China for less without the name brand mark up I appreciate all the input yall! If full ceramic are too loud how do hybrids compare in noise and in improved ease of casting? Thanks for the write up man, how much digging did you do into factory direct from China?
  3. @WRB it's the Pflueger Supreme xt @GetFishorDieTryin it's a new reel first time putting line on @MN Fisher I feel inclined to agree, but it very well may be too thin of a diameter than it's designed to lay evenly. - this is why I essentially gave up on 10# braid. @JediAmoeba I'm trying to envision how this would look, I really like the idea - I'll YouTube and see what I can find for visual support. @bulldog1935 I'm prettyvsure it was 160yd give or take, I took the whole new roll of line. @Eric 26 All they would do is use the actual device that jedi described mickeymousing. I'm definitely gonna look into do that myself.
  4. I think the problem is the fact that it's 10# braid, I switched to 15# a year or 2 ago and found it to be much more manageable in general, but I had this entire spool of 10# Spiderwire Ultracast just sitting here and I needed to just use it. When spooling the line on it leaves a gap at the bottom and top of the spool, I imagine this will have an impact as the line will continually unspool and respool each cast laying just different enough to not lay even and cause weird lips/ ledges to catch on. No videos really address how spinning line lays and its awkward to search effectively, please let me know what you think. Thanks yall
  5. Idk which magic wand he was building with those composite blanks, but they have their place for some. Even on a composite build, which I haven't done yet, I'd absolutely have a goal of losing weight where I can - no reason not to and a number of reasons to. Rod balance is huge, especially if the blank is already a little heavy by itself.
  6. I love it when @spoonplugger1 drops knowledge, little history lesson keeps me feeling like I wanna know more. If anybody is a believer in stiffness to weight ratio having an impact on sensitivity then carbon fiber grips must be the most sensitive. @Delaware Valley Tackle what do you mean by "What we feel is movement if the blank"? If you mean to say we merely feel resistance causing the rod to deflect and not vibrations I'd lay off the RM magazine for a bit haha. I have dragged lures over boulders not causing the lure to pull, but causing the lure to vibrate which I've felt in my hands. I would encourage you to rub chalk over a chalk board and feel the same sensation that a lure sends back to our hands. Ever feel a spinnerbait blade stop spinning? @MickD is definitely right about using braid to increase sensitivity more than a grip. Although I would say plenty of baitcast techniques are improved when we can feel what the lure is doing.
  7. My understanding is that upgraded bearings are less about increased casting distance and more about a decrease in the power needed for about the same distance, which leads to more controlled casts and greater accuracy. Which is likely why you see the greatest benefit in BFS applications where spool start up speed and smooth/consistent rotations of the bearings can be achieved with a lighter more fluid cast than trying to chuck a lure afap. Have you tried full ceramic? Also I'd imagine that lower quality ss bearings upgraded to full ceramic would have a more discernable improvement on the reel/casting. Edit to add Thanks for letting me know about the percentage of quality, I'll order a couple extra of each as back up - if they're all good I'm sure they'll find a home eventually.
  8. @JediAmoeba thanks , I'm planning just the spool bearings. If you've tried from all kinds of sites and brands and can't advise against Chinese I just may do that. @FishTank First I will upgrade some old cheap reels to practice and see how it feels. I have an SLX MGL that saw an entire fall outside by the shed last year and I can see it needs a cleaning, no idea what the guts look like but I'm assuming a colonoscopy is in order. Figured I'd upgrade while I'm going in anyway, like taking out the hemeroids. I also got an OG concept Z that either needs it's bushings replaced or brakes greased _ I've never done either but here they might resolve the squealing casts. For kicks an Abu Garcia black max and ultra max and my Lews custom black combo reel. Question for you _ "in your experience" meaning you've tried the Chinese ceramics and find them lacking? Thanks for sharing @Jrob78 , I can see higher end gear not needing an upgrade, I would certainly hope not anyway haha
  9. Are they just postponing the spawn this year or something? Have only gone out a couple times and haven't seen a bed. Caught a couple on spinnerbaits in vegetation.
  10. Hey all, I was wondering if anybody has any experience ordering Bearings from auction sites or very fast magic carpet sites? Any real world comparison between bearing brands or off brands? Measured comparisons between stock and upgraded bearings or other brands? Mainly I'm thinking most US purchased bearings are built in China, and we just pay for the American company to put their name on it - I'm really leaning towards full ceramic Magic Carpet Express delivery.
  11. I grabbed one of those on a combo on sale a while back - its solid little performer. Shoulda gave the poor guy a casting lesson, I gave up after my first few encounters with a BC reel too. Gave it a shot a year later or something and have been slowly upgrading my collection ever since, I'm still not great with them but I can appreciate what they bring to the party. I've thrown 30-40# braid on that max ultra and it did well, I thought the performance felt pretty smooth for the price.
  12. Enough said above, don't have much to add, definitely listen to the advice already given and you'll see an improvement. I've been working on a new hook set technique I saw a pro use in a tourney: If I'm baitcasting I'll press the thumb bar, and spinning I'll flip the bail, then like a baseball bat I swing backwards and quickly grab the line with my hands then sprint into the water after dropping the bat/rod on home plate. I'll post a video when I get the chance.
  13. @spoonplugger1 droppin knowledge over hheerrree... good stuff man. My question would be do you think so little of the 3m nano resin? Many high end blanks are incorporating it now. Also, are you certain that Shamino hasn't updated their manufacturing process or blank design with more modern carbon fiber capabilities for their Loomis line? Loomis still seems to reign Supreme on the market, and it can't be because they fish like 15 year old rods I'd imagine. What are your present day favorite blanks you've built on and for what purpose do you use them? Thanks for your insight and sharing your thoughts.
  14. PURE didn't give me my free spool with a reel purchase, I sent an email a number of days ago... Do I just let it go? I might make another order if I can get a code to work again anyway, but the site is glitching out and won't let me edit my cart - any PURE baitcasting reels good for lighter stuff like a super fluke?
  15. IS the reason you don't like the minimas because they are SS insert and that doesn't play will with braid? I ordered a couple AT microwave air guide sets that have SS inserts because they said they were good for all lines.
  16. What's the difference between 783 and 783 c? And what makes an MB an MB vs some other rod with the same power/action designations? And I feel like @MickD is right mentioning the magic of the MBR843 @spoonplugger1 - I feel like its touted on youtube vids and discussions as some sort of "magic" rod - but I haven't quite gathered the difference between it and some other 7ft medium heavy fast rod.
  17. I'll be honest I'm new to building and haven't handled those blanks, but from the numbers and what can be somewhat expected from them I would go with a little bit lighter if its also faster. WOuld depend on what weight/hook you plan to be shaking with but doubling as a wacky rod that's my take. It would be a bit more of a blance between the changes from the rod your currently using, unless you wanted something relatively different. It is only 40g less powerful and on the other side almost 100g more powerful. I don't know the real world difference in feel and all that, but I imagine that the significant increase in AA and a 25% increase in power would feel pretty different if you go with the more powerful blank. Going down at least the difference is split with it being faster but a little less powerful. Good luck with the build and come back to let us know how it goes.
  18. You mean Greg? And I definitely set my casting drag pretty tight in the yak, or anywhere else haha - and maybe drop it a bit if if I feel like I need a little give. Yeah, the ride can be fun sometimes, but too much fun can lead to a loose hook.
  19. This is something I've considered for quite some time and haven't had the time to gather considerable data myself. @Darth-Baiter inspired me to post it as I saw him mention it elsewhere as well. Do you factor kayak wind drift/fish pull when fighting a bass and how you choose your power/action for tackle? I feel like it must contribute some to the system fighting the fish, but how much? Too slow/light of a rod lose enough hook setting power to warrant a step up in either? Only adjust drag to make up the difference? Pitching/fipping from a kayak - even worth it? I've been pulled forward hook setting and fighting very average sized fish, and especially if there are even a few lilies in the way I can reel myself right to a fish in the pads haha. I often find myself reeling quicker and moving my rod to avoid slack in more open water and the yak starts being pulled/drifting. Faster reel for kayaks?
  20. FIshing with light gear makes every fish feel like a monster haha, I'm currently dealing with an internal struggle between medium light and light for my finesse fishing. The light stuff keeps'em hooked and makes every fish a blast to catch, medium light affords more control in the battle but some of the runs have pulled hooks when trying to keep fish away from rocks or weeds or dock pilings. I feel like I'd be compelled to agree that sunnies put up a ferocious fight for their size, and I've pulled dink smallies that I thought were decent spots before I saw them.
  21. https://asafishing.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Sportfishing-in-America-economics-report.pdf Definitely to the nth power by relative capitalistic standards, recreational fishing is a MEGA industry. Its also been on the upswing for several years now with projections of continued economic growth, this is why we are seeing some of the prices, and innovation, that we're seeing. And also why PURE can afford to offer 50% off and still make a profit, I used to work at Dick's and when we scanned things we could see the mark up percentage - would make you feel sick seeing how much we overpay for some things. I've seen 50% off still net a 500% gain for the sale. That's why this page is such an asset to us regular folk, I'm so grateful I bumped into this "latest sale" thread and only wish I did sooner. HUGE thanks to Bass Resource all of you who contribute here.
  22. Yup, I tried a couple earlier today - wish I thought of it 5 days ago in the first order haha. Man that woulda been UUNNBBEELL8EVABLE! Yup, I tried a couple earlier today - wish I thought of it 5 days ago in the first order haha. Man that woulda been UUNNBBEELL8EVABLE!
  23. I probably shouldn't even look at those JDM sites.... but maybe I can just look but not touch... Just bought $50 worth of lures I don't need from PURE, I need medicine!
  24. MMMMaaaaNNnnn I ordered a couple jigs last week, When did that deal start? I think I'm gonna order a couple more now just because. What's the JDM reel deals people are talking about?
  25. How did you get jigs down to $1.75? Lowest I'm seeing is $2.50 This worked for which site?
