Latest Catch Pics Thread
I found the bait this morning. Confirmed with this photo. No bass though. Still spending a lot of time playing with electronics and learning how to position kayak in the wind, and my confidence launch spot wasn't accessible so I've been in a newer area trying to figure it out this winter. Is this a threadfin? I think it is but would love someone more experienced to confirm.

I just got the email Wednesday at 1p. I was on the list prior to all this starting. That's odd.

Your fishing style in as few words as possible (explanation allowed)
Catching trees. If there is a tree near me, It's highly likely I can hook it.

Best Stand Up Kayak
Old town 106 for me. I'm not sure I could flip it if I intentionally tried, but I do get nervous about falling out when standing. I've almost fallen off a Jon boat numerous times though so take that for what it's worth. I only stand up to fish when the water is warm and people are in eye site of me. But I love the old town. Never tried another brand.

Help me spend my Christmas gift
Do you have cards for your new helix? Those aren't cheap. Depending on where you fish, maybe a lake master card and/or auto lines card? I also have a new helix and that's what I'd spend part of it on. The rest I'd save until I need something. Or get an awesome combo I couldn't otherwise afford as other have suggested.

The latest sale thread
It was online as well, but that has now ended. They seem to always be running a sale, but it only applies to clearance items which usually isn't much good stuff. I got lucky in store that they had some quality items in the clearance rack.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Extra 30% off clearance. Everything pictured was clearance receipt the h20 items. Sales like this feed the bait monkey... Needed 2 things that were both out of stock.

The latest sale thread
Academy has extra 30% off clearance. Local store had red lipless from SK tungsten, 6th sense, spro, and several others I don't remember. Also got booyah covert spinner baits, rage tail swim baits, and a few other things I didn't need 😂

Glad to see my NC buddies getting it done today. I didn't want to deal with the wind so I went to academy to see what's on sale. Big clearance, lots of red lipless on sale from various brands. Pat you may want hit the Burlington store if you have a minute in the next couple days.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Weather and sickness are keeping me off the water as well. I've missed 3 trips in January already from one of those 2 things. I'm hoping I can go somewhere this weekend even though it's high winds again. Don't think I can go out in my kayak as every day looks to be > 15 mph sustained winds, but maybe I can hit a pond. Feels like it's been 6 months since I went out, although in reality only about 2 weeks. I don't know how you northerners do it, I'd go insane if I was locked inside for months on end!

Battery recommendation for Lowrance Hook 7 Reveal on a kayak
I've got a helix 7 on my kayak and bought a litime 12ah battery to power it. Very good reviews on YouTube teardowns compared to others at that price point. Still too new for me to give a good review, but I can say if this is your first lithium you'll probably need a new charger. I had a noco 1 that is supposed to work with lithium but it doesn't. I think the charger went bad so I bought a cheap lithium charger on Amazon and so far an happy with that. It's 4 amp, which is Relevant to how fast it charges.

What's your favorite color of Zoom "trick worm" ?
Junebug Black Watermelon or baby bass, something like that in clear water. Funny to see the pink comments. I bought a pack on clearance at Wally and haven't even got a bite, but slay with the other colors. Pink is the only color with a livelong skunk for me. Maybe that should be my summer challenge this year.

New to North Carolina
Welcome @calvin18! Sounds like we're about neighbors 😎 From the bank I'd probably target local ponds. Lower pressure and easier to cover most of the water. I do see people catch bass from the pier at the Guilford mackintosh Marina but that's not my deal. It's only open certain days and hours so check the website before going. I think they charge $3 to fish there. The lake gets a lot of pressure but has big fish in it. You can also rent a kayak when weather warms up, or rent a Jon boat any time but you'll need a trolling motor (FB market, $150 should do it). The above poster is correct, cammack is known to be a decent fishery and Graham Mebane also. You could also try haw river, there are accesses all over the place. I'm West of Burlington and occasionally visit Greensboro City lakes also (Townsend, Brandt, Higgins). You can rent kayaks and Jon boats at those 3 also. Those are @Pat Brown Territory and he catches some hogs on a regular basis. For quantity, head north to hyco. You can catch spots all day up there. Hope that helps!

BFS rod
Thanks guys. @Bass Rutten and @BC VC basser are throwing pretty much what I had in mind. I'm going to spend some time this weekend looking at rods. ML/F sounds great to me as I used to have a ML until I snapped it and it was the most fun to catch bass on, what a fight! I think building this combo will open up a lot of interesting options for lures that I previously may not have considered because of casting accuracy with spinning rods. I am great at launching a lure into trees with spinning. Ok with all rods but I'm pretending just spinning to justify this purchase!

BFS rod
Thanks Everyone! I'm thinking I'll do what @Delaware Valley Tackle suggests. Don't want to get boxed in calling it BFS, so I'm just gonna build a combo that's good for 1/8-1/4oz lures and go catch some fish on it
-
BFS rod
Didn't realize it was for baits that light, I was thinking it'd just replace a spinning rod. Now I'm thinking I'll just use this as a crappie rod.

BFS rod
Got the kast king zephyr bfs reel for Christmas. Now I need to choose a rod and line. Looking to be under $100. Not sure exactly what I'm throwing on it, this is my first bfs experiment. Probably weightless wacky and stuff like that I guess. What do you all throw on BFS setup?

When everyone Zigs, do you Zag?
I throw what I think they'll bite and try several different presentations of each lure. When I prove myself wrong I throw something else or change location. I don't really know what everyone else is throwing, but I do make the assumption it's a chatterbait so I don't throw them 😎

Latest Catch Pics Thread
All the crud is going around, I got a positive flu test this week and have been down for the count. Ruined fishing plans for sure, still haven't gotten the new fish finder wet yet. Fever seems to be about gone now, I'm hoping I have the strength back to go out on kayak after Christmas but so far this recovery is slower than I'd like. Keep posting pics, I'm getting my fill through you all!

I took my dog back to the rescue…
My rescue died a couple months ago at age 16. I still haven't recovered from that loss. They are certainly family members.

Sweeping/dragging a Lipless
I'd be concerned I'd hang up on the first cast with all the wood in my lake. This is why I usually avoid treble hooks, unless bass are suspended. This technique described reminds me of the @WRBhorizonal jigging technique, similar approach with different lure.

How many days did you fish in 2023
I need to start tracking this. I'd guess about 15x this year once the year is over. All for bass except when I'm fishing for bluegill with my boys, but even then I usually get in a few casts while they're playing with dirt or something 😎

Looking to improve my paddle tail swimbait game
I throw them on jig heads. Been meaning to practice swim jigs, got some from Seibert but haven't gotten around to it yet. So many baits to throw, so little time to throw them!

Fishing around docks
I always watch for mounted lights, and rods or rod holders, on docks. In this area I find lots of brush piles so I feel what you're saying, only difference is I'm fishing in daylight.
