  1. Only State agencies will put a stop to it. It would be nice if tournaments would limit FFS to practice only. Once State agencies get involved it will likely involve heavy-handed regulations.
  2. Definitely want one of these: https://fishingtackleretailer.com/zebco-celebrates-75th-anniversary-with-release-of-special-edition-33-spincast-reel/ Can't wait to pick one up in July 😀 Lots of good memories tied up in this reel. Photo: https://imgur.com/a/FamyVuz
  3. Fishing in general is popular. Nearly every time I buy fishing stuff at Walmart someone smiles and comments about me going fishing. Just yesterday I was walking out of Walmart with a new rod and two elderly ladies walking by me were smiling and said something about me going fishing. My conclusion is fishing simply makes people happy and for many stirs up good memories.
  4. My son in law put a white swimbait trailer on it. It was the only spinnerbait he had like that. His biggest bass was over 6#. At one point he ran his boat over a log to get back to where the spinnerbait was snagged to retrieve it. He caught most of his fish on that spinnerbait. The thing looked pretty beat up after the tournament and is hanging from his trophy today It was definitely worth the price to him
  5. I believe it was this one in 3/8 oz https://bluerocktackle.com/products/indiana-pulse-spinnerbait-1
  6. My first thought is Spinnerbait, but depending on conditions it could be Jig, Ned, T-Rig.
  7. I wanted to buy the same Spinnerbait my son in law won a national bass championship with. $18 with shipping. I'm still using Walmart spinnerbaits
  8. Thanks! I was just thinking it would seem strange throwing a 1/16 oz inline spinner or 1/10 oz ned on one of those ugly sticks. These are pretty substantial rigs. Wondering if anyone has thrown crankbaits, top water, or spinnerbaits on setups like this.
  9. I have 5 of the 3000 size Spinning Combos. I haven't used them much. They are all on Medium Rods. 2 are Ugly Sticks. I have live bait rigs so I'm not interested in using them for that, but instead for Bass both large and Smallmouth. Just curious what lures you would throw on these combos. Thanks!
  10. A couple of weeks ago I bought an Abu Garcia Vengeance combo from Walmart. Usually $75 but I got a closeout for $41. You can't get a usable Baitcaster combo for much less than that.
  11. I don't think I've only had one rod/reel since I was a boy. Even as teenager I had more than one. If I could only have one it would probably be a 2500-3000 size Spinning Reel on a Medium action Rod. Something like an Ugly Stick GX2.
  12. 10# test and higher I use a Uni Knot. Haven't had a lure fly off since doing so. Lighter line I use a Trilene Knot, or very light line a Clinch Knot. I use mono so my knots hold pretty good. For the size lure you mentioned I'd go with 15# test line, certainly not less than 12# line.
  13. Highly pressured: Booyah Pond Magic, Strike King Mini King. Red is good right now, white or black/blue in stained water. Both brands are inexpensive. Put a curly tail grub or small swimbait trailer on them. Fish them slow.
  14. Spinnerbait Skirted Jig Swimbait Crankbait Stick Bait
  15. Don't Smallmouth often hunt in packs? They don't play around, they hit the lure hard.
  16. Last year I had 5 Zebco 33s. Now I'm down to three and two of them are probably shot. These things aren't the quality of the old ones. The problem with two of them are they are giving the line a beating. I put new line on both of them, only used one time and the line is really rough again. So I'll probably be down to one 33 and unlikely to ever buy them again. I don't need them with all the spinning and baitcaster reels I have, but use them for nostalgia occasionally.
  17. This is why I decided against using a Tiny Child Rig. I've seen fish photos on Reddit with as many as three Senkos in the bass. When I first heard about the Tiny Child Rig my first response was that it was a great weedless way to catch fish. I put the rig on two combos, one a small setup with little nail weight, another with a bigger worm and screw weight. Before I used either of them I realized how easy it would be to lose the worm when a fish would bite it, and could end up in their stomach, both plastic and metal weight.
  18. Last year was the first time. Very simple, date, location, fish caught/size and lure/s. I might also add a note about weather/conditions.
  19. Used a variety of rods and reels, none of them particularly stood out. Lures, surprisingly three of my nicest fish were caught on Roadrunners, my go to when nothing else is working. But the spinnerbait caught more bass for me by far than any other lure, though I finished the season pretty good using bitsy bug jigs.
  20. The last bass I caught on a jig I cast into a bunch of shad busting on top of the water. The bass smacked the jig almost as soon as it hit the water. Of course that was a reaction strike. My guess is jigs are probably either a reaction strike, or the bass eats it because its in the strike zone and perhaps irritating the fish. I wonder how many bass strikes are actually out of hunger rather than reaction strikes.
  21. Great suggestions! Thanks everyone! I'm going to start with a weightless 5" Stick Bait. Saw lots of Senko suggestions. Also quite a few suggestions for a Baby Brush Hog. I'll put that on my second reel with either a 1/8 or 3/16 oz weight. Close third and fourth choices were Zoom Finesse Worm and Lizard. Enjoyed reading about a wide variety of Texas Rig options. Thanks again!
  22. I got a couple of light Kastking baitcasting reels for Christmas and I'm going to set them up as T-Rigs. They will be on medium rods. Trying to decide the best two plastics to use on these. I'd like your opinion. What would you choose as your top two Texas Rig plastics? We have ice on the water now so it will likely be a couple of months before I can use them. So regardless of conditions, wanting to know your top two choices. Thanks!
  23. Any of you folks ever side skin hook a worm? I did that once when I was having a tough time catching bass on a plastic worm. Hadn't thought about it in a long while.
