50 size baitcaster
I'm not sure exactly what the size the Metanium Shallow Edition is but $270 from digitaka is hard to beat (even harder when they were $230 before the tariffs) I use one on my jerkbait rod and it's a joy to fish with.

Savage gear swimbait rod
The XH is what you're looking for. For what it's worth, I have 3 Battletek Rods. All 3 rods I really really enjoy fishing with. I think the 7'4" bladed jig rod is a true gem for the application. 6'10" M/F - Jerkbait rod 6'7" MH/F - Topwater rod 7'4" MH/MF - Bladed Jig rod

Needing a Shimano bait casting reel
Digitaka has the 2025 SLX BFS for like $160... that's hard to beat!

Am i the minority when it comes to reels?
I'm the type of guy who finds a pair of pants or a certain shirt that I like and I'll buy multiples of them. When I dove head first back into bass fishing a while back I bought BPS, Lews, Abu & Shimano... I've switched them all to Shimano, mostly Curados with a couple scorpions and a Metanium. I like what I like and have a hard time getting away from it.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Fished Cedar Valley for the first time Sunday night for a few hours. Didn't hook into many but I liked the lake and will definitely be back. It was super hot and a lot of recreation boats and jet skis were out and about. The Missile Baits Baby D-Bomb continues to shine when I need a bite. Texas Rigged, pegged with a 1/8oz weight and owner 1/0 EWG pitching around brush and standing timber. The lighter line on that setup hasn't failed me yet even when fish get caught up in the brush as long as I just lean back on them and try not to force anything they always seem to shimmy out. Big fish came on a TRD... neds only catch dinks though 😉

What new baits, rigs, or techniques have you used this year? How successful have you been?
I'll check it out, thanks a bunch!

New technique I started using this year is the Free Rig with a Bellows shad. Caught me some good ones but the bellows shad are beyond fragile so I started using a yoto worm and it seemed to work pretty good as well.

UPGRADING SOON…. Need your opinions
This fall I’m looking to upgrade from my 2007 Tracker 175 TXW. It has been a great boat but I’m wanting to go fiberglass and a bit longer. Currently looking at these 3 boats. Wanting something in the 18.5 - 20ft long. Something 2007 or newer. Skeeter 190 Nitro Z7 Triton 186/196 Budget is $20k and from what I’ve seen there’s plenty out there in that range. What is your thoughts and is there anything I need to stay away from? Anything I need to be looking at that’s not just n my list? Thank you all!

I saw you there, that was me in the Bass Tracker. It was a bust for me too! I got out of there and salvaged my day at Mound City. The bite was pretty good until noon then it shut down. They did not want moving baits but caught several on a Baby DBomb T-Rig and a Yoto worm Free Rig. All bites were on standing timber.

Went to Melvern on Fathers day for a little while. I put in on the west side as I haven't fished that side much at all this year. Was raining a little with some wind that didn't get too bad until later in the morning. Fishing was super slow starting out. Threw a spinnerbait thinking with overcast and wind, that would be the ticket. They didn't want it. Caught a couple on a 10" power worm, 1 was pretty nice for Melvern.. Found a little point where I sat in 2' of water with a 16' drop off one side. Not sure if bait was pushed up there or what but I proceeded to catch 10 right in that one little spot and surprisingly half of them were smallies. I never catch smallmouth on the west side. Most were hammering the super spook jr which was a blast and also caught a couple on a squarebill. Caught a few more that day but if it wasn't for that small point, it would have been a rough. Got out of there when the wind got brutal. Kind of a weird day.. Unfortunately I'm an idiot and didn't have my settings correct on my gopro. I was zoomed in too much, which I guess I could live with, but then I realized it recorded in a file that's not compatible with my video editor. Trial and error I guess

Dobyn’s fury
I had 3 of them. I did not like the 7'6" flippin stick but the 7' heavy and the 7'3" mh were good rods.

That was definitely a negative about it. The amount of bass fishermen out there was unreal.

I ended up fishing the Big Bass Bash on Grand Lake this weekend. My sister has a place on the lake and we had already planned on going this weekend, then I remembered it was going on and ended up entering the last minute. I only fished Saturday but had a lot of fun and caught a lot of fish. I've never seen that many bass boats on that lake. I don't really know that lake very well but I learned a lot and fished a lot of new areas. Had a typical bass fishing story, "shoulda, woulda, coulda"... I hooked a good one and had to pull him through some brush. He jumped once and my heart started pounding knowing it was a fish I could weigh in. I grabbed the net and when I went to scoop him he jumped again and broke me off. I'm about sure he would have weighed in one of the 20 slots and I would have at least got my money back. Sadly enough, it wasn't the only good fish I broke off. I need to do a better job re-tying more often. That was obviously the problem. All my good fish came on a 10.5" Junebug Zoom Ol' Monster around bluffs and secondary points. A bunch of small fish on a wacky weighted senko around docks. Also caught some on a freerig with a Bellows Shad and an OSP blitz max crankbait. I don't think I'll invest in anymore bellows shad. They only last 1 fish and are too pricey. All in all a good time and would definitely do it again in the future. 1st place was 6.29 & 2nd place was 6.28!!!
