What’s been productive in the first half of 2025
This year has been a little different for me. I usually have one or two baits that really stick out, but that has not been the case this year. I’ve caught them on a little bit of everything. My best days have been from: bladed jig Ned rig Senko 10” Power Worm Football Jig T-Mac Shakey Head D-Bombs

when out fishing. you ever see someone filming for youtube?
I started recording last year mainly because I enjoy watching the other local guys around here. Gave it a shot and it’s pretty cool to be able to go back and watch the good days on the water. I delete the bad days 😉

What is this kind of baitcaster used for in fresh water?
Back when I first got into "serious bass fishing" my uncle would always take me out to lakes and small tournaments. He was a huge Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C3 guy. Naturally, I followed suite. They were great reels and I used them for looong time. I could sling a spinnerbait and weightless senko a mile with a 4600 C3. I've always had a thing for round reels since and have recently bought a couple Calcutta Conquests (shallow edition & a 101 size) I'm completely blown away how small these little round reels are. They're amazing, are a work of art and very comfortable to fish with.

BFS Ned Rig Rod
Thanks for the info. I'm actually thinking a more parabolic rod might be worth trying out.

BFS Ned Rig Rod
Good stuff!.. do you consider the Cashion much of an upgrade over the Feather?

BFS Ned Rig Rod
So I have a three of the 7’1” Phenix feather rods that I use for BFS. 2 light power and 1 Med light power. The two light power rods is what I use for Neds along with other finesse techniques. To me, they work really good but I’ve never compared them to any other BFS rods. So I’m curious, what makes a good BFS Ned Rig Rod to you and which one do you use for the technique?

BSF is a game changer
I agree.. BFS for me has made finesse fishing so fun. I've got 3 Curado BFS that are all on Phenix Feather rods (2 Light and 1 Medium Light) They get a lot of use. I also just picked up, this year, a Calcutta Shallow Edition that I paired up with an Expride 7'2 ML rod. Not BFS but allows me to throw more finesse presentations. It might be my favorite combo out of all of them. Very versatile! I like it so much, I'd love to get another. Between the Calcutta SE & Curado BFS reels I've eliminated all my need for a spinning combo.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Been to Cedar Valley a couple times in the past few weeks. The first time was one of my best days on the water numbers wise, probably 40+ fish but didn’t realize my power bank was dead so I didn’t get any video. Conditions were good and the fish read the script. Went back today and had a pretty good day. Not as good as a few weeks ago but I’ll take it. They didn’t want the full size jig this time but downsizing to one of Clayton’s 1/4oz Micro Jigs was the ticket on half the fish and a shakey head for the other half.

Confident Baits
it’s flat on the backside, you just can’t tell from the pic I’m the same way, each year I try to pick a technique or two and get better at it. The approach has worked out really good the past several years Same here! Last year was Texas rigged anything. Year before was bladed jig & jerkbait. Year before that was a squarebill

Confident Baits
“Confidence” such a huge factor when fishing. Two techniques that I admittedly struggle with but should be staples in my arsenal. 1) Jig fishing (I know, how???) 2) Shakey Head Both techniques I always have good intentions to use but the rod usually gets put down if the magic doesn’t happen fairly quickly. Lord knows I have piles of straight tail worms, shakey head hooks & a whole 3700 box stuffed with jigs. The turning point was chatting with a fella a few weeks back mid day when we were both about to call it a day. I had a decent day throwing Texas rigged Ribbontails & creature baits on standing timber but he said he absolutely slayed them on a jig. I was envious and admitted to him that I struggle with my confidence throwing jigs. He said he was the exact opposite and said he has so much confidence in jig fishing it was probably a fault and throws it when he should be throwing something else. At sunrise today I found myself on a lake that I’ve only fished one other time but did actually catch a couple on a jig the last time I was there. Slightly windy and overcast sky’s…. It should be good! After a slowish first hour throwing Topwater and my Texas rigged baits I found myself on a rocky point and thought, “man, this is screaming shakey head” I tied on an owner 3/16 with a bama bug T-Mac and boom, boom, boom. 3 casts, 3 fish, SWEET! Went down the bank and was wacking them left and right! Good fish but not a lot of size so I picked up the jig. Green pumpkin purple with a toxic grape D-Bomb trailer. I proceeded to go down the shoreline and catch bass after bass. Man what a great feeling!! My best day of the year numbers wise and it was nice to do the majority of the damage on the jig and shakey. Big fish of the day made up for the lack of length with girth!

Bfs tips needed - breaking off on soft plastics
I was having the same issue until I changed my knot. It still happens every now and then but mainly because I go too long without retieing.

I haven’t fished the stick yet but I’ve fished the bellows shad and it was great other then cost vs durability. Getting these for almost half the price from Japan helps the value aspect of it for sure. I’ve been looking for a heavily ribbed worm as all the old school options are nonexistent.

Digitaka got me again! I liked the CC shallow edition so much I decided to grab a 101. I used to fish the Ambassadeur reels a lot when I was younger and I’m blown away how small these Calcuttas are compared the older Abus

I had the same issue but I couldn’t catch a smallie. At one point I was catching white bass on every cast on two different points. And a spot where I caught 3 channel cats on 3 consecutive casts. It was an odd evening but the new combo got a lot of work so it was a lot of fun.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
MC is a lot of fun and when I don't feel like throwing a ned rig around Melvern that's a place I like to go... but it's always a risk that you might meet 12 other boats on that small lake during a tourney day. Melvern has been pretty fun this past month between crappie and nice smallies. Whenever I feel like ned rigging I head to Melvern lol.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
A couple different days on Mound in April. Caught every fish on a bladed jig the first trip and most fish on a spinnerbait the second... two of my favorite ways to catch them. Second trip was one of the slowest I've had on that lake but the one good fish made the trip for me. Melvern has produced some nice smallies for me so far this year... Still chasing that 5lber out there though!!
