everyone seems to have a channel these days.  i've seen Greg Blanchard out on the waters..  my goofy friends get star-struck and get selfies with the guy.  i say, "he should be asking us to take a selfie with him"  :D  i watched him and OB blast past in "rootbeer" for a frog tournament once.

i never see anyone talking to themselves (to the goPRO).   you?  the odds are pretty good i run across a guy talking to a gopro.

i'm going to Japan with a youtuber.  he already warned me he will do a japan fishing tackle episode.  :D  i'll photo bomb his ass.

I see (mostly) teenagers with GoPros strapped to themselves while fishing around here. I don’t get the draw, but I also didn’t have the career of “content creator” to consider in highschool.

i wear a gopro simply to take pics of my fish.

Not actively on the water.

However, I did bump into the person at his work.

Normally I have a gopro rolling just to record my adventure.

Don't have a channel though.

I just like to watch me fish.  LOL

thinking about it.  i ended up on a video once.  i tried to stay on the fringe of his lens.  but ended up in the show.  the dude wore out the phrase, "LET'S GOOO!".

hahahha...

Yeah I'm pretty sure his plan is to move there.

I don't pay enough attention to other boats to notice.   I have seen a local YouTube guy's wrapped truck at the ramp a few times.  Last time I checked he was approaching 100 subscribers to his channel.  😆

Can you explain this to me? Is it rolling all the time or can you take pics with it?

Man, I sound old but I swear I’m young-ish.

Nope. My primary lake is a HP restricted lake that fishes hard, that isn't what they're looking for.

I seen a few back before utube.

Jimmy Houston filming musky fishing with my in-laws neighbor guiding him on Lake of the Woods. I fishing area before they pulled up.

Butch Brown is good friend and has a camera running while fishing. Butch fished alone most of the time, sometimes with a camera boat.

I had a guide ask me to barrow a big bass so his Japanese clients could get a picture with it.

I was just listening to a podcast today about trophy bass fisherman and they were talking about butch. Very accomplished guy

I was fishing one day a month or so ago. And a guy was flying a drone all over the pond I was on. Not sure if it was for YouTube. But it was annoying hahaha

Run into Chad and Austin Hoover (kayak bass fishing) quite frequently. Though, I usually stop by where they are after I fish to talk “shop”

sometimes. One day I ran into Alex Rudd while KBF was filming a video.

No. I don’t have it on.  I catch something decent, I’ll turn it on clip it up front and take a selfie.    I’m pretty quick at turning it on.

It's getting more common. I mostly see muskie fisherman filming themselves around here.

I keep a GoPro running most days just for kicks — no YouTube dreams here, I just like reliving a good catch or figuring out what I did wrong when I blanked 😅

But yeah, seeing someone talking to a camera while fishing is pretty normal now. I’ve even had a guy hook into a fish mid-sentence and just keep narrating like it was a live show. Gotta respect the commitment!

If I ever filmed for YouTube, my catchphrase would be, "Well, yep, here's another one."

At times I’ll bet that’s not that much of an exaggeration!

Just prior to the days of YouTube, GoPros and drones… so like 12 years ago..

I was fishing a river in late Fall in Minnesota early one morning and there was only one other boat. 3 guys in it and one filming. Steve Pennaz filming Lake Commandos. Watched them for awhile and they waved as they went by.

After awhile they stopped over and asked how I was doing and they were very friendly. They usually brought a second boat to film shots from farther away throughout the episode. Not that day, so they asked if they could take a few shots from my boat. The following year they got into drone filming and wouldn’t have needed me.

Anyway, all went well despite a really cold drizzly 44 degree day.  They filmed from my boat for awhile then went back to fishing and so did I.

About an hour later they wrapped up their show and asked me if I’d seen the water level dropping. I said now that you mention it..

Late in the Fall, the city lets the dam out and drops the water level to basically a trickle. Fast forward, a mad dash to get both our boats out of the remaining muddy bank - and almost got stuck til spring.

I ran into Steve a couple weeks later at a high school basketball game. He remembered, we laughed and remembered our harrowing experience. I met his son Pierce who is a very cool, special needs guy. Just like my brother.

We developed a nice friendship and met on the water a few times. He ended up inviting me twice to compete as a guest on his show.  I participated several times in a charity tournament he and Al Lindner put on for many years. One of the nicest and most genuine people I’ve met in the fishing industry or otherwise.

Don’t think any of this would’ve happen in today’s world now with drones and YouTubers, never know..

Yes, just about every trip I make.

I will admit that I rarely have an audience.

I haven’t run into anybody else videoing yet. I’ve had a handful of people ask me for my channel name and I tell them and also give the disclaimer that it’s exactly what it sounds like. I do a terrible job with YouTube because I have no dreams or delusions of it turning into anything. I swear too much to ever get paid and only catch a handful of truly impressive fish per year.

I video because crazy stuff happens on the water sometimes , just this past weekend I snagged and landed a 35ish lb snapping turtle, nobody would believe it including myself if I didn’t have the video. I upload to YouTube to use their server space so I can rewatch my time out on the water when winter comes.

I record my trips, and see a fair number of other people doing the same around here. There's a few in our kayak group that record their trips, and several local guys that boat fish and record their trips. I get recognized occasionally from my channel, I never really know how to react to it.
