when out fishing. you ever see someone filming for youtube?

Featured Replies

Around here pretty much every kayak and bass boat has a gopro strapped to it. I don't see people actually talking to it but filming for sure. Heck my boat and kayak both have a navstick with a gopro perched on top of it. I don't have a channel that I make videos for I just like reliving catches I get on video

I have seen Roland out at S1 in the Everglades reclamation area filming an episode.  No bass boat, no gas motors out there.  Electric only, a big converted John boat.  Just him and a camera man.  This was 4 or 5 years ago.

A few years back, pretty sure I saw him in a relatively new/dugout quarry lake next to Arthrex near the town of Ave Maria, FL just east of Naples. Had to have known somebody to get access to that privately owned puddle.  But then again, he’s Roland Martin!  If I would’ve asked they’d a shown me the “No Trespassing” sign…

At times I’ll bet that’s not that much of an exaggeration!

Ive seen Ike and his son film a bunch of times.  A couple years ago he had 2 guys with him, I think they were from TW doing a vlog to promote something.  It was one of those weird days where nothing works the way it should.  I could tell he was struggling; he kept bouncing back and forth 5 or 6 different spots every 10 or 15 mins.  I was looking forward to seeing how they would edit it, but it never got posted.

I see a few younger guys talking to themselves and making a huge production of everything.

Run into Johnny Johnson and Gary Senft filming their local cable shows from time to time.

Our local YouTuber is a good guy. It doesn’t bother me when he’s filming and I’ve been in a few of his videos .

i wear a gopro simply to take pics of my fish.

My buddy wears one and surprises me with videos of my bigger catches after the fact. He doesn't say anything. He just starts the video when we realize it's a big bass.

I've seen several local guys out filming. One guy once stopped me and asked me how to get bit because he needed content of a certain bait by the end of the day and he was getting desperate for content. I didn't look like an enjoyable time to me. I've read Zona and others say that it takes about 12 hours of footage to edit down to a 30 minute episode. I know most trips he films he fishes for 2 or 3 days and they edit it into one 30 min show

I've seen some young people filming.  Why anyone would want to record in some of the ponds I fish is beyond me.

I am lucky enough to fish places wear I rarely see anyone fishing.  I did fish a lake where a couple anglers I met were upset I had found the lake.  They asked me how I discovered their secret giant bass lake.  I told them I had found the lake by watching their videos.  The truth is I had heard about the lake from a friend, but I did discover one of their best fishing holes, by watching their videos.  It was easy to see where they were catching the big bass off of an offshore hump, by looking at the back ground when they held their fish up to show off for the camera.  They also show themselves driving through the local town, and launching their boat, so any one familiar with the area could find the lake.

It only makes sense if they don't want anyone to fish their secret bass lake, maybe they shouldn't post videos of them fishing there all of the time.

I've got equipment to mount my GoPro to the back of my kayak and a knock off camera that I occasionally use as a chest camera. I have editing software and thought about posting videos. But trying to narrate out on the water is distracting for me.

If you run the video constantly there's a lot of dead time and you can fill your video card quickly unless you set it to loop every 15 minutes. But even that was a pain. So I'd turn on the power to my camera and let it idle, and sure enough just about every time I got bit I'd forget to say, "GoPro start recording."

I find it to be a hassle and I'd rather just fish. But I do turn it on when I fish Bassmaster events because if you submit your video you can win and extra 3 grand or so from GoPro.

I hear ya  ~

Consistently Capturing and Editing watchable video content isn't for everyone.

First off, it's pretty tricky getting it done when fishing solo.

Especially from a kayak.

There's a few bassheads here who pull it off.

@Bluebasser86 and @pdxfisher to name a couple.

If you choose to make getting useful video a bit more of a priority,

You might find that your fishing improves too.

Mine certainly has.

I have 2 GoPros rolling and sometimes a third for underwater shots. I have a YouTube channel only for my own enjoyment and so that I can share the video with family and friends. I don't narrate as it would be too distracting. I video the entire day. I like reviewing the videos especially after the season wraps up. I learn a lot from watching my well documented mistakes.

I use a 256Gb card and run my camera (gopro 8) at HD (not 4K) I think it will record about 10 hours. I don't narrate or do anything except hold my fish up to the camera after I catch one. I mostly keep it running all day.

I make my videos for me. Someday soon I won't be able to fish but I will be able to watch myself and re-live my trips. Youtube is basically free cloud storage.

I make the videos public because why not. Trying to make videos professional looks like a lot of work and is a big commitment. Narrating while fishing would take away from the fun of fishing for me. I do talk to myself while I fish but I do that all the time. I process better when I think out loud.

I started recording last year mainly because I enjoy watching the other local guys around here.  Gave it a shot and it’s pretty cool to be able to go back and watch the good days on the water.

I delete the bad days 😉
