When to change out a car battery
A few years ago I was at walmart and it was raining. I went in for something and came back out and the battery was dead. My wife had been listening to the radio, but the battery was weak and we didn't know it. Across the aisle there was 2 women putting groceries in their car. I walked over in the rain and politely asked if they'd give me a jump. She said they didn't have cables, to which I replied that I did. She said sure and I went back to my car and waited. They finished loading their groceries, jumped in, and took off like a shot. There happened to be a guy in the car next to me whom I had not seen, he got out and offered me a jump.

Kinda like tackle. My fishing wristwatch.
Sweet. I didn't know Garmin made watches.

Vintage lures you remember in your dad's tacklebox...
Interesting thread. My dad passed away when I was 5, but I do remember once when he took me fishing. I assume he was using worms, and caught a bluegill. Afterwards, he decided to cut some donuts in the field that the pond was in. I was holding on, and I had my seatbelt on. Then my door flew open! My little arms were trying to hold the door closed. He looked over and said in a gruff voice "Hold on Bazoo!" I remember it like it was yesterday, and I'm 41 now.

I am appalled.
He doesn't know he's not a real bass!

Thinking of revisiting the trick worm?
I use them occasionally. I've used the Zoom Finesse worm quite a bit more. I've mostly used it on a split shot rig, but I've fished both the Finesse and Trick worms texas rigged weightless with success. I haven't tried them wacky rigged yet, but I haven't had much luck wacky rigged with senkos/copies yet either.

Hello from Italy – Question About Using Braid Directly for Texas Rig and Finesse
Howdy and welcome. I use straight braid for texas rigs on spinning gear. I don't have any problems getting bit with it. I got this guy a couple years ago on a texas rigged Zoom Fat Albert grub, on straight braid.

When we're out on the water and a big ol' bull frog croaks, I say, "There's the dinner bell."

The beetle spin is a spinnerbait type lure, not an underspin. Unless they make an underspin I haven't seen.

FFS questions: high wind, how to stop catching Gar, changing appearance with range, bottom fish
They bite me all the time down at the river. Most often on crankbaits. You feel the hit, set the hook and feel weight, then nothing, and continue working the crankbait back. The worst is when you have them on, play them a bit, then they just come off as quick as they went on. They are fun to catch though.

I also don't particularly care for braid. I have it on 1 of my 2 spinning rods. I have occasionally tried it on baitcasting reels, but it never plays nice for me. I can fish mono without backlashing, but braid gets under itself, tangled, stops the lure in mid-air, hooks gets snagged on the spool, it gets wrapped around my guides, it gets in the split rings. I pretty much hate it on baitcasting. As far as lures, heck I still try those I can't get along with occasionally, hoping other's success will rub off. I have friends that tear them up on neds. I texas rig a grub in its place and I go right behind them tearing them up. Last time that happened, my buddy showed up next go round with the same grubs. As far as gear that others don't like... well, I like H20X squarebills, I find them to be equal to all the other brands I've tried. I like shorter rods for 6'0 and 6'6" for general purpose use. One of the rods I really like is a cheapo Proficiency Retro. It's got a good action for a light medium rod and I can place a lure within my range with pinpoint accuracy nearly. Probably the one thing that most love that I don't though would be JIGS! I haven't ever gotten a bite on a regular jig. I have gotten 1 fish on a swim jig. I saw someone say if you can fish a texas rig you can fish a jig. I do well on texas rigs, I just can't get bit on a jig.

Nice work. Very nice looking waters. Congratulations! My boy would love it, as would I!

I pretty much don't use ned rigs, whopper ploppers, and chatterbaits. I've never had luck with them. Never caught a fish on any of them the times I've tried them. I did have a bite on a whopper plopper once, but didn't get hooked up.

Looks like an interesting article. I like catching the occasional goggle-eye.

Painted vs Unpainted Jig Head
Another interesting discussion on the subject. Thanks all. I will mate a brightly colored jighead with a dull grub so I have a pop of color, much like painting a chartreuse stripe on the back or tail.

When to change out a car battery
If I wanted to ensure trouble free service, I would replace them every 5 years. I have in the past run them until they wouldn't go, but now, I would rather just replace them instead of getting that extra penny or two out of them.

"Big" bass
4 pounds and larger is a big one for my area and to me. I've heard of a few 6-8 pound fish, but it's uncommon. My PB is 4-11 right now. I know someone that's caught a 6lber in my home lake.

White bass, one of my favorites
I caught a few yesterday on the Nolin River. I considered keeping them briefly. I got a couple on jig head grubs and one on a crankbait.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
I went down to the river again tonight for a bit and while I was targeting bass, no bass were willing. This Gar was probably 15 pounds. I was able to get him up on a higher level of rocks and he started thrashing and come unhooked, and when he started to head back towards the water I let him go rather than grabbing him for weighing and a better picture. I was alone. Afterwards it struck me, he would have counted for my state's trophy fish program if I could have weighed and measured him.

The boy got a catch of a different kind earlier. I caught a few white bass... a first for me. Then I caught a walleye... another first for me. Look at that grin. Target species. Another white.

Who's bass fishing videos do you like on youtube?
I noticed some of that. But it's obvious he knows how to fish. I pretty much share his opinion on FFS. I am opposed to it all the way around. I see it as akin to shooting deer off a feeder. I digress, I don't watch his FFS rant videos because I am focusing on becoming a better angler.

Anyone Here Ever Win A Boat Or A Truck In A Drawing From These Companies?
I've not won any of those bigger raffles. I once won the top prize plus a lesser prize (nice pocket knife) on a punch board that a mom and pop grocery store had. They ran it until all the punches was gone before giving out the prizes. There was another country gas station that did similar, but they normally gave away used guns. One of the times someone won the gun on the 8th punch. It wasn't long before they stopped doing punch boards.

Caught these 2 down on the river on this white Bandit 300 that I found a while back.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Went down to the river last night and laid into something big. I think a gar. Played it a while then it just come off. Could have been a huge bass I reckon, and I thought it was a bass to begin with. Didn't see anything. The boy got a goggle eye on a worm. Went back today and caught a few. Lost that Fat Free Guppy and then put on this white Bandit 300. Lost the bandit and then put on another Guppy.

Reels for a young'un?
We rarely fish bobbers, so cane poles aren't going to work for us. He wanted to fish worms and bobbers tonight so I rigged him up. I let him fish bobbers as much as he wants, but he likes using various bass lures as much as I do. He enjoys slinging whatever it is out half a mile. I can't blame him.
