  1. I like his show but I can't take it as seriously as a show on a lake. Pond fishing is just easier. I would absolutely fish there if it was me. But if you want to convince me that you are a really good fisherman with a really good technique, I don't want to see you on a stocked farm pond where a little kid can catch a 5 lber. I do find him informational. I've seen him give small talks and I find them very interesting.
  2. WHat does the app do?
  3. I've used braid since it became available and I have never replaced an eye in a rod. But maybe some people catch like a million more fish than I do.....
  4. 20lb braid is the size of 8 lb mono so I never go less than that. I started a discussion already about leaders because they make no sense to me. I concluded that you should NOT use a leader. You are adding a knot. If you use 20lb leader it is bigger than the braid. I don't know why you would have a leader less strength than the regular line. I do not think a braid this size can be seen by a fish. But hey, that's just me. I am confident someone will tell you that you MUST have a leader ha
  5. Thanks for making me feel like a complete loser ha this is great.
  6. Kind of a trick question, or at least a trick answer. I only use palomar for tying on lures. I don't know why anyone uses anything else. I watched some of the videos by Glenn ( I think?) and he demonstrates different knots and said he uses some form of clinch. He does not say why. The palomar is easy to tie and as far as I know it is the strongest. you have 2 lines going through the eye of the lure. I use it for Spinnerbaits and everything. And I also use it with braid.
  7. Trust me, when I was bass fishing I had the right gear. I was just messing around for a couple bream before leaving. I wasn't even fishing for a 1-2 lber.
  8. ok, I'll be pulling for you to win some tournaments and get one of those Jerseys
  9. Man, a couple weeks ago here in NC it was really warm and I took the wife to a farm pond and set her up for some bobber and jig fishing. Then I started bass fishing. After a couple hours of nothing, I grabbed a little spinning rig and started throwing a little mepps inline spinner to snag a crappy or bream just for fun before leaving. You guessed it, I hooked the biggest bass of my life. I was on the dam so i was a couple feet above the water and there was grass and trash for about 10 feet between me and the water. I got down the bank as far as I could and played her like Eric Clapton on a guitar and wondered how in the world I was going to keep her on and get her out of all that mess. Plus I figured she was going to break my line any second. Luckily the wife saw her roll one last time and toss my bait so at least she saw the gut on this hog before I lost her. I have decided to replace my mono with 15 lb proline braid so that I can horse them a little more even when I am finessing. I still think the biggest problem was the little treble on the spinner, but I don't know how to get around that. I only caught her because I had a small bait on. I wanted to really set the hook but I was afraid of my light line. I hope with the braid I can just go ahead and really set the hook. BTW, when I lost her, I could not catch my breath for a minute or 2. I think i was literally holding my breath the whole time. I was caught completely off-guard. tight lines bros
  10. Dude, your not wearing a shirt in your avatar. I don't know if you realized that or not.
  11. If you pursue this topic further, please be sure to post here. I would love to put my transom transducer in the hull but I have a hard time believing that it works.
  12. Man, i learned my lesson in high speed TMs. I took the boat out a couple weeks for the first run of 2013 and did not realize that I was very low on fuel. I ran out of gas about 1/2 mile from the pier. So I ran the TM on 5 for about 15 minutes and once I got there it never ran again. I took it in for repair and it was 80 bucks to get it repaired. According to the tech, the TM pulls 50 amps on 5 and only 25 amps on 4. So don't use 5 for more than a few mintues.
  13. Ok, now I get you. If you had said tides or moon phase, I would have understood. I don't think anyone has ever mentioned gravity. I agree with your point about dealing with the conditions at hand when you get on the water. Thus, I want to understand fish behavior and weather, better.
  14. so, why not just use mono? Why are you using braid at all?
  15. I totally agree. Thought I was missing something. I don't understand the cost argument. If you care about the difference between braid and mono/fluro, just use mono.
  16. Gravity, really? Yeah, trying to avoid that. But I do know that wetting a line is the best way to catch fish.
  17. Can anyone direct me towards a good, definitive, well-thought out, discussion of weather and bass fishing? Do they like or hate cold fronts? what does the barometric pressure have to do with the bite? stuff like that. thanks
  18. I don't understand using leaders for bass fishing. For fly fishing, the line actually throws the lure rather than the lure pulling the line, so I get that. But why in regular reel fishing? I have a couple of spinning rods that I fish for bream with. I hooked a huge bass last weekend so I decided to spool the spinning rods with 15 lb braid which is the size of 4lb mono. I am going to leave some mono on the bottom of the reel so I learned the albright knot to connect the lines. But in the mean time all the things I read said to put a mono leader on the end. Why? you are introducing another knot and if you use 4lb mono, you are defeating the purpose of the braid. If you use 15 lb mono leader to match the line, why not just use 15 lb mono on the reel. I am saying braid but it is really just the super lines. I am going to use pro line which is limp and probably round. thanks RoachDad
  19. I have the same question. My boat is 20 years old so its pretty heavy. Its a 20 Fiberglass bass boat. i need to re-carpet the trailer boards but I was thinking about putting in the roller boards instead. Any one tried that? BPS has them up to 5 feet long and I think I need longer ones than tha which makes me think that they may not be appropriate for bigger boats. I'm also afraid that there will not be enough friction to hold the boat on the trailer when I pull it out of the water. If it is too easy to roll on, the bulk of the weight of the boat will be on the winch.
