  1. Its not motor specific, it just one of those things they don't tell you that works better. In my Mariner shop guide it says to have it in Neutral. But I've replaced it half a dozen times and so the last time I decided to watch a video and I took his advice it it just worked alot better that way. Having said all that.... I have a 1984 motor so maybe a new model is different but i doubt it.
  2. Its fairly easy and fun. Watch a couple of Youtubes. I never knew about leaving it in gear and the only hard part was putting it back together and lining up the gears. Which wasn't hard, it just took a little time to get it in there. (I know, I know, that's what she said) Anyway, You will feel good when you get done.
  3. I was fishing with my wife and had to go into shore to get a lure out of the trash. While there with the boat basically anchored on the trash I decided to change a couple of lures so i tied on a Bagley crankbait. Since I had tree branches in one half of the boat I decided to cast it out over my wife's head. Sank this trebles deep into the top of her head. But she still talks to me. That is true love my friends.
  4. Lordy, Lordy, NCAngler.com is a nice web site. Lots of people in NC posting in there. thanks!
  5. Thanks, I'll check it out. I see lots of coastal fishing activity but not much freshwater. I log on to a few web sites but its mostly tournament info.
  6. has anyone ever restored the finish to a fiberglass boat? Mine is 1984 model and for the last 8 years or so it was outside. I put in new carpet this spring and got a garage cover for it. I woudl like to bring the finish back to it but I don't know if it is too far gone.
  7. I never heard of double palomar. I'll have to look that one up.
  8. Palomar is easy and very strong. I checked this out years ago and at that time it was the strongest knot. There may be some new ones now. Palomar has 2 lines going through the lure. I know alot of people grew up with the clinch knots , like I did, and unless you are having trouble, why change? but I did and think the Palomar is just really easy to tie.
  9. I apologize for getting way, way off topic. I googled world record largemouth to see what George Perry used to catch his 22 lb hog. He and a friend had 1 rod and reel and 1 lure. A Creek Chub Fintail and a homemade boat. One guy skulled and the other fished and they would take turns. He was lucky enough to be casting when they caught the world record bass. I don't know anything about the rod and reel but I bet it would not be as good as the one I use for the grand-kids when they are fishing with nightcrawlers!
  10. man, that story hurts me feelings. ANd after looking at the pics, I have to go change my contacts.
  11. I can't imagine a club telling a woman that they could not join. However, I have often said that the worst thing about fishing is being associated with other fishermen! ha (nobody on this web of course)
  12. I got news for you sis, unless we pay a ton, rainsuits don't fit us dudes either ha
  13. CPBass, I see you are 16 so I hope I did not offend you. You have grown up in the modern bass fishing phenomenon. Trust me, I caught tons of 4 lb bass on Zebco spincast reels. I love my baitcasters and 7'6" rods, but we make it way more complicated that it really needs to be. All this modern stuff is great and I use as much of it as I can afford but before we knew what finesse fishing was we were able to fish deep and shallow with the same rig. I remember when the first modern spinnerbaits came out. We called them Diaper pins and none of us thought they would work. Then when we saw them landing fish we all went out and bought them.
  14. I like beetle spins and rooster tail. I think the slower methods like jigs probably work better but I'd rather be a little more active when catching them.
  15. they may not go along totally, but before alot of us got so educated, we used one rod and reel for everything. (and caught lots of fish BTW) You only need 50 lb line if you are fishing in very unique water. If you get snagged constantly then 50 lb is good. Or in my case, when I paid for a 20 dollar a-rig, I used 50 lb line to make sure I did not lose that sucker. But if you want an all-around rod and reel set up 12 lb line or 20 lb braid is all you need.
  16. I'll bite. What does SCROUNGA stand for?
  17. LA! Haven't heard that term in years bro! I graduated from Enterprise. My dad was stationed at Ft. Rucker. love that area. Live in NC now. Welcome
  18. do you normally catch fish on plastic worms? For instance, do you have any luck with a Culprit or something like that with a bullet weight Tejas or Carolina rigged? Just trying to figure out if this is a Senko thing or if you don't mess with plastics in general. If so, I am really surprised. I am a Spinnerbait and worm fisherman 80% of the time. I have caught tons with a regular worm but when I switched the Senkos a few years back it was amazing. I fish them wieghtless.
  19. Hey, I have been reading the thread about Shouthern NH and just wondered if we could start something similar in NC. I fish in Davidson and Forsyth county. When I take the boat out I head to High Rock or Badin. Anyone here hitting those lakes? If so, what kind of luck are you having? I've been out a few times near by but it has been one of those crazy years where I have no free time to fish. Looking forward to getting after it soon though. later guys.
  20. Ahh, that is what I get for reading too fast. I think you are absolutley correct. Some a**hole did this and I have no repsect for people who do stuff like this. thanks for taking care of the fish.
  21. I personally think the fish was chasing a bug and got stuck. But who knows? I remember about the first time my dad ever rode in my car, I stopped and got a turtle out of the road. I was 16. I was grinning from ear to ear and my dad says "What are you smiling about?". Well, whenever I was a kid and asked you to stop and get a turtle out of the road you would say, "WHen you are driving your car, you can stop and get him out of the road" ha
  22. I have determined that fishermen feel very smart if they change their lure in some way I have never been able to determine if it makes a lick of difference. When Flukemaster said that he ties his buzz baits to his car antenna, I had to call BS on that one. Fishermen feel compelled to trim skirts and change hooks and add colors, etc. Maybe they are right but I just fish 'em like I find 'em.
  23. I wish I could get it on my Nook. I want to read it, but i am addicted to the NOOK. I guess I'll go to B&N and see if they have it in stock in paperback.
  24. is your line wrapped around the rod tip? Just kidding. How comforrable are you with baitcasters? Are you able to cast others but this one gives you trouble? Just trying to see if it is operator error.
