How moderate do you like your jig rod?
What’s your go to rod for jigs 1/2-3/4oz if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been looking at an Expride 7’4 heavy mod-fast and the IMX pro 844 MBR, but I’m open to any suggestions.

Leader type
When fishing a drop shot I’m normally using such small diameter fluoro that I don’t worry about it. Also I’m shaking the drop shot most of the time so it doesn’t really have time to sink. I think fluoro is a better option overall just because it’s so invisible.

How moderate do you like your jig rod?
Huh interesting. I’m my brain it seems like you’d get way better sensitivity the lighter the power and faster the action. Maybe that’s just me though.

How moderate do you like your jig rod?
So you’re saying that a 2 power extra fast spinning rod has the same sensitivity as a 6 power, slow crankbait rod? I know that’s an extreme example but wouldn’t there be a difference in sensitivity to a lesser degree between more similar rods? Thanks

How moderate do you like your jig rod?
Braid to a 10ft 20lb fluoro leader with an FG knot worked awesome for me this year.

How moderate do you like your jig rod?
I guess I need to warm up to using fluoro. I’ve always been a braid guy, and I feel so blind the small amount of time that I have used fluoro. I just feel like I have no idea what’s going on down there with the lack of sensitivity.

How moderate do you like your jig rod?
Why no braid? Couldn’t you just use a 4 power when you’d normally you a 5 and 5 when you’d use a 6?

How moderate do you like your jig rod?
I feel like I see 2 different mindsets for jig rods. ( I’m mainly talking about arky, and flipping jigs in the 3/8-3/4oz range.) The first one is, extra fast for great sensitivity and bite detection. The second is moderate fast, to keep fish hooked better so they can’t shake your jig easily. I experienced the difference when using a ~$90 7’ MH/F which fished much more like a moderate fast, and a very sensitive $200 MH/F. With the more expensive rod I could feel the bottom much better, and feel fish I maybe couldn’t have on the cheap rod, but I ended up loosing many more fish when they’d head shake at the side of the boat. I feel like the more moderate style has definitely been pushed by Tactical Bassin, and them recommending the Megabass Orichi XX Brallist, which they say is more moderate and helps land more bass. What style do you use for your jig fishing? Have you jig fish with both styles?

Winter Bass Fishing: New Video with Pro Tips!
@Swamp Girl I know!! The winter tip I need is how to melt all this ice real quick!

How technique specific are your rods
I definitely get your point. I’m mainly talking about how guys will have 3 rods designated for football jigs etc.

How technique specific are your rods
Seems like more and more guys have super technique specific setups. I’m curious to see how many people on this forum go the technique specific route, or have more generally purpose rods. I’m could kind of go either way with my casting rod selection and I’m trying to decide which way to go, or to ogo for a more middle of the road approach. What would you recommend for a guy planning on 10-15 setups higher end setups?

Fishing memory vs day to day memory
I fished on average probably 3+ times a week all summer and I still can recall almost all of the great days from memory, but the regular and even pretty good days I’ve almost completely forgot. I definitely need to start a journal next year. For remembering big fish, I take a couple pictures of everything 18” or bigger, one pic with the bait in its mouth so I can remember, and one without so my buddys wont won’t be throwing the same bait in my spot 😉

2025 plans
I’m looking forward to just learning more about the bass fishing world in general, and staring some entry level local tournaments. I’m also dreaming about fishing a hidden gem lake that I have seen some giant largies pulled out of, the same lake I caught my ~6.5lber.

Could not catch fish...
Could be all crappie if you caught one out of the bunch. I’ve a had some similar issues so I’m curious to see the replies on this thread.

Get the four of the same reel, or mix it up?
Thanks dude! This is probably a stupid question but what’s the difference between the 20 met and the met 100?
-
Tokyo Rig?
Do you use the flipping hook version? I never like punching with an EWG

Beavers
Too bad I’m not closer, I’d love to trap them for ya.

Get the four of the same reel, or mix it up?
I will definitely try a couple zillion HDs, I like the idea of brass gears.

Tokyo Rig?
I threw a Tokyo rig a little bit last season for the first time. It caught fish but I don’t think any better or worse than a good ol t-rig, maybe something new if the fish are pressured a bunch.

Zillion HD for everything, including light baits like jerkbaits, etc? Any down sided except for the price?

Get the four of the same reel, or mix it up?
Thanks Tom, yes some spinning combos to come, but still I wish I wouldn’t have have to use one and could flip a jig all day 😄

Get the four of the same reel, or mix it up?
I should clarify that I only have one slx and zillion, and I would be buying all new zillions to put on the new rods, I’m mainly just curious about the difference between the zillion and the met and the met 100, they are pretty close price on digitaka.

Get the four of the same reel, or mix it up?
Very good point. The thing it is I wasn’t exactly blown away by my zillion. Even though it was by far the most I’d ever spent on a reel. It felt a little gritty to me right of the bat and stayed like that.

Get the four of the same reel, or mix it up?
I’m going to start tournament fishing this upcoming season and I’m planing on buying some high end casting combo’s. I have a good idea of what I’m going to do for rods, but now I’m trying to decide on reels. I should start by sayingthat I haven’t fished hardly any higher end reels, really just a JDM zillion, not sure if a SLX 70 mgl counts as higher end. I should also add that I’m planing on buying all JDM reels. My question is whether to just throw a zillion on all the rods, or to get different reels to fit the rod more specifically. I could probably get away with getting 4 zillions, but if wondering if I should get one zillion for a jig rod, a 20 met for a chatterbait rod, a zillion HD for a frog rod, and a met 100 for a crankbait rod. By doing that I could also see what I liked best for future purchases (don’t think buying all these will stop the bait monkey 😄) I’d love to hear some thoughts on this.
