Not a good fly fisher, maybe spin for trout?
You’ve definitely never tried it then. It’s practically a cheat code. It will catch every fish in a riffle and not spook the whole run. Sorry not sorry. it’s a nymph rig. No casting required. You just let the current load the rod and flip it upstream. Too easy.

Recs for waders
Boots with BOA laces are great because after they get wet it’s easy as pie to tighten. They also tighten much better than regular laces.

A Czech/Euro Nymph rig will out fish spin casting 8 days a week.

Recs for waders
Buy waders with socks and get boots that fit right. You can get by with cheap waders but if you skimp on boots you might hate what you end up with.

Ultimate Angler Championship
Just a bit of debunking. And a bunch of good young anglers were unfairly insulted.

Ultimate Angler Championship
Of course it won’t. And not a peep on YouTube from you know who. It doesn’t fit the narrative. I haven’t had the time, but if I get a moment I want to look up how Tucker won and how it unfolded. It was kind of cool seeing all those big names on the same list. I wonder if there is something bigger in the works with this Unified Anglers thing.

Ultimate Angler Championship
This just happened on Guntersville. Winner gets $500k. Had participants from BASS, MLF and elsewhere. It's a non-scope tournament and was won by Tucker Smith, an angler unfairly derided as a "Scoper" with supposedly less "traditional" fishing skills. Congrats to Tucker, that is a good chunk of change.. BPT's Jacob Wall finished 2nd and got a $130k check. It's just a sample size of one event, but it's interesting to see anglers from both major tours head to head and no live scope. Since it wasn't BASS or BPT unsurprisingly there wasn't great coverage. https://app.fishingchaos.com/tournament/AIVikqnHVZRXi685THnU

Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
Looking at the video. Which is pretty damning. He must have not been looking up for quite some time. There is just no way he wouldn’t have seen it had he been looking. I almost wonder if he fell asleep.

I don’t think semantics quite means what you think it does ironically. After all forgetting something and not being aware of something are both clearly defined and settled universally. I don’t think he cheated. It was a rules violation like jumping offsides. A foul. But instead of changing his story he should have just said that he screwed up and that would be it. But of course he just can’t seem to help himself.

2026 B.A.S.S FFS Rule Change
I haven't even bothered to look and I won't but I bet Old Randy Blaukat still hasn't said anything about Laker Howell winning two events without scoping. That simply doesn't fit the narrative.

DQ
Nah. It's not whatever. He changed his story. One day he forgot and then he said he was never aware of it, or vice versa. How can you forget what you aren't aware. He changed his story and was caught up in it. That's exactly what a liar does.

Small Boat Lakes, CT?
I don't know it nearly as well. Start around the park and there are lots of docks that you can hit. It has alewives as well. You can catch LMB, SMB and Brown Trout.

The Bass Seasons of Maine
The season in Maine might be short but the bass fishing is stupid good. More and more it will become a big bass fishing destination in the summer months.

Small Boat Lakes, CT?
Here's a couple more from Mt. Tom. It always seems like bass in clear water have cooler markings. The ones I catch here in Missouri are much more dull. I also fished Lake Waramaug and some local private ponds.

Small Boat Lakes, CT?
Cool. And thanks for the update. I was there in August and I fished it in the evenings and had some similar results. Although I wish I could have had more time to fish some mornings and some of the deeper water where some of the really big fish hang out. As you saw, the water is really clear so in the spring you will see very large bass in the shallows before the weeds really grow in. After that is over, they move out to the drop-offs. I basically grew up on a street on the other side of 202 and we are members of club there that has canoes that we use. What's interesting to me is that there are now Alewives in the pond and they school up like shad and come to the surface in the evening. I didn't see anything really keying or feeding on them. Other than that, it's a spring fed lake with really good water quality and there were tons of fish everywhere and it fishes the same way it did when I was a teenager. I had my best luck casting into the weeds and pulling it through the drop-offs where the weeds end. And I pretty much caught everything on chatter-baits.

Line Snippers?
I use a pair of Simms Nippers that I wear on a lanyard around my neck. I have a bunch of cheap rapala scissors for braid.

Bass Pro Tour 2025 FFS Numbers Have Spoken
Well everyone has access to the same tech. The field was already level.

Discontinued Lures
No. That thing was fantastic though. Smaller than a standard lipless, and had a tail and maybe one treble hook. edit: Mann’s George-N-Shad

B.A.S.S. 2026 FFS decision?
I hope BASS doesn't change a thing. They had 9 Elite Events. In 5 of them the technique that won was more old school than not. 9/10 is fantasy numbers. The reason why MLF didn't ban it was because they were smart enough to see that the fanbase is very tribal and there are plenty of people that don't mind it and like it. This is all according to Joe Balog on another site.com in one of his columns. The antis just complain and moan about it incessantly giving everyone a false idea. Then call it the friends and family tour because those are the only people who are at the weigh-ins.

LaCrosse, WI
listened to Trey this morning on the Mercer Podcast. According to Trey his biggest strength is jigs and fishing brush piles. Biggest weakness: fishing endless grass mats. He isn’t good at find the hard spots and breaking them down. This was recorded a week ago. He laughed at the idea that he was an FFS guy. When he was fishing BFLs and other tournaments it was all about power fishing.
-
LaCrosse, WI
I think you’re painting a broad stroke on the guy saying he wasn’t into it based on one or two tournaments. I don’t agree.
-
LaCrosse, WI
Not the most inspiring way to win it, but going B2B puts him in elite company. Trey's win was amazing but he had some bad results early in the year. He has a huge future.

LaCrosse, WI
And yet another bad tournament for the scoping is killing bass fishing crowd. And the AOY is an all arounder too. Nope. Other than the home field advantage. Schlapper whupped the southerners on the Sabine too. Jay has had a great year as well. The state produces exceptional anglers.

So the weigh in will reveal the AOY winner today.
