So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Looks like the MLF crews are on San Miguel this morning. Sitting on the porch drinking my coffee and I have seen 5 boats go by with 3 guys each in every boat. All headed for the back of San Miguel. Catt. I seen you once post a pic of a topo map of toledo before it was a lake. Do you think anyone would have a copy of that topo map still available for purchase?

So a lil report. After fighting a bad trolling motor battery I was able to get out and fish some today. Got the first line in around noon and fished till 4pm. Got 17 bites of that 5 were legal keepers. Found them along a drain in about 8 foot of water. Got bit on a watermelon red baby brush high Texas rig.

That was better then my day. I got to fish for 20 mints before the trolling motor battery went dead. Guess the people at the auto parts store don't know how to read a battery tester lol. Catt. If you still have my number give me a holler. Lost yours when I got my new phone.

Bring clothes for all weather conditions. Work the ditches/cuts leading to spawning flats and coves, north bank sides, the more North in the lake you go. The warmer the water. Lots of bourbon to drown your disappointment 😏 😜 🙃 😏 😜 But seriously hope this helps and good luck.

Well even though the big pond is a amazing big bass lake. It would be a losing strategy to just target large bass, let's say 6lbs or bigger. Knowing what lil bit I do know about bass fishing this lake, here is my take on it. I expect most bass to be caught in 10 to 24 foot of water, most to be 2 to 3.25 lb as the average fish weight for the tournament. And I'm going to go with a conservative 45lb+ weight to win the thing. I say that knowing I have and can put together 50lb+ bags in a day beating the bank this time of year but the water is still a bit to cold for that kind of action right now. I suspect the guys that will be in the top 3 will be hitting prespawners in the 10 to 16 foot range on main lake drains/creek/channels that lead back into spawning coves and flats.

I seen some grass out in Housen back in November when I was duck hunting out in that area. I'm going to be checking some channels/ditches and drains on San Miguel.

I'm probably dropping the boat in tomorrow myself.

So I hear the MLF tournament kicks off tomorrow on the big pond. Supposed fishing out of Many. Maybe I will run in to a few of them on the water this week.

Haven't really got out and about but from the areas I can see from the bank around my house. Non existence is the grass situation. We actually had some decent grass getting going last year. But the winter draw down killed all that, it went dry ground everywhere it was growing. Same thing every year.

It's starting to slow down now, so looks like a conservative 170.5 is where we will top out at before its start going back down in the next day or two. I see some rain forecasted for mid week, hopefully it will be a big down pour and jump up us over 171 for a week or two. Watching what people post on the fish reports page. I'm so glad and blessed that 99% of folks think bass don't bed till March lol.

Well got the Ole tracker cleaned out, rods got new string, sorted out my tackle and baits. Motor has been serviced, batteries have been tested and cam back good and are on the trickle charger. Tires are aired up, got a full tank of fuel. This season bass smash orama is bout to get kicked off feller's. As always if you see a blue tracker pro crappie in or around San Miguel with a middle aged fat guy not wearing shoes slinging baits for dear life. It's me come on over and say hello.

We need it to be at 171 min and stable for it to be in the brush on San Miguel enough for them to move into it and start bedding. As I write this we are very close to 170 level and we still need another 1 to 1.5 of water to get in the scrub good in San Miguel. Weather app shows heavy thunderstorms late Friday and into Saturday.

Was a steady off and on rain for most of the day yesterday, then last night a couple of times it got down right nasty, so far today it's been a steady light rain. Lake is up several inches since daylight yesterday morning. Chocolate milk already but glad to see the water on the rise.

Hopefully they don't pull all the water back out from this rain. Side note I love this site but good God, it was almost a act of congress to get back into my account. Was just going to make a new one but spent almost 39 mints and it never would except my answer to the security question. Thank God I remembered my old name and email account.

Lol. Been catching them on frogs since beginning of February.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
For those of yall who might be wondering how I came up with the weight needed to win. I used a very secret and sophisticated mathematical formula known as WAG lol. Lakes in great shape with fish in all spawn conditions and the right water depth and weather conditions to turn up some huge bags.

It's going to take 58.87lbs to win it.

There is more grass then hydrilla and coontail. San miguel has had plenty of grass every year.

Good luck. I just came off the water. Dad really wanted to fish this morning. Took me 10 mints to get the boat off the trailer, nearly got my truck stuck lol. Found a few bites up shallow but all small fish. Ok. So here is the results of my saved data on 8lb plus fish. Quick and dirty. Between me, dad and 4 freinds we have boated a total of 268 8lb are larger bass. Of 268, 43 of them were caught before march 1st. Only 7 coming in between march 1st and march 14th The rest were caught from march 15th to May 9th Average water temp is 68.8 degrees. Average water depth 3. 75 feet. Baits used. 1. Watermelon red swimbait produced the most, with a black and red flake ribbet coming in second on numbers. Ribbet frog produced the most bass over 9lb. Average pool depth 171.48. With my notes showing only 19 of these fish being caught when pool was at or below 171 feet. Only 11 bass were caught directly from grass, all other bass were caught holding directly to wood with my notes showing there was no grass within a average distance of 4 feet. Just my notes, take from it what you would like.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Lmao. From now till June there will be no place you can go that you will not have several boats already there and several more come in after you. Sad part is, the lake has gotten so low as of this morning. It's not worth my time to even pull the boat back out this weekend. Every bed I found last weekend and the whole week leading up to it. Is now dry ground. And I'm talking hundreds of active beds.
