  1. Joshybadnames, just drop me a line if I'm free I'm always down to set a line. Ok, Catt I spent Wednesday afternoon and most of Thursday trying a few spots in the 1215 mostly around the Christmas tree area, here is what happened. Me and a friend worked a few spots with cranks and Crig's and pulled a total of 14 bass most were in the 14 to 15 inch range, one bass went just over three pounds, we weren't able to fish it as good as I would have liked to due to the high winds and a my two small anchors weren't enough to hold us in position very long, got two new bigger anchors coming. So we pulled back to shallow water around the island's next to the park and picked up anouther ten bass Wednesday afternoon and a nice 4.10 pounder. About the same for Thursday morning, so we then ran back down SAN Miguel to a island and some flooded buck brush and picked up three bass full of eggs so they got put back, hooked up with a hog that broke me off when it got me in a brush top and broke me off. Wish I could have given a better run down of how I went at fishing the 1215 area but I was not properly prepared with the right anchor gear to beable to learn how to fish it better, but new bigger anchors are on the way and I will be back to try it again. Pic is of the 4.10 I got on a caffine swimmin shad in some pepper grass Wednesday afternoon.
  2. If you are stripping line on hook set your drag is to low, keep increasing drag till you don't strip line on hook set, when you get it to that point leave it alone the drag is perfect.
  3. Well all my reels that have mono on them have 15 pound line and they have a max drag setting of 10pounds, I keep my drag set so I can pull some out but it would take a very big bass to strip drag. Now my frog rod the reel on that rod is set to max drag
  4. My pocket knife seems to cut PP with no problems at all so that's what I use.
  5. Lol, well you can't blame a fella for trying lol. Didn't get to fish as long as I wanted this morning but did have a great time and broke a rod on hook set.
  6. If they follow and don't hit the spinner bait that means that the size and color is close to what they want you need to add a trailer that gives them the action they are looking for. As for a follow up bait to the spinner bait try a caffine swimmin shad with a weighted underspinner hook.
  7. Yep just a steady retrieve, sand bars are like points if there is a lil ripple on it that makes it better. As far as grass I like to let my bait run just low enough in the tops to hit the grass a lil and if I can let it drop down in the grass a lil more right before it leaves the grass line it makes it look like a bait fish breaking from cover get a lot of hook ups that way.
  8. The 3/8th once size spinner bait is a great all around size for bass bigand small. Throw it anywhere's, my fab is on shallow sand bars and grass lines. I use double willow leaf blade's at all time's, silver blades when the sun is out and gold when it cloudy. I only use two colors, white and chartreuse, black at night. I find I do the best when I don't do anything fancy just a slow steady retreive, if I want to burn a bladed bait I will throw a chatterbait. This is what works for me, I hope the advice helps you.
  9. Little Fish, it's a waist land up here no bass what so ever don't bother coming up here heheheheheh lololololol.
  10. If you are looking for a baitcaster set up with that size rod, I would suggest taking a look at one of the Lews combos, they have a few combo,s for round a 100 that will be a dang good set up for the money. I think it is mostly personal preference. But for me I feel I have better control and better hook set's with a baitcaster setup and because I can Palm the reel and lay my line on my finger I can feel a bite better then on a spinning setup. But this is just my personal thoughts.
  11. Frog bite has been good the last two days. But I have been moving more to deeper water lately due to the fish starting to pull back, spawn seems to be coming to a end around my house. Fishing more towards the park end of SAN Miguel to stay in the fish. Fishing frogs on the shaded shore in the morning and then dropping back to sand bars and grass line's from 5 to 15 foot of water with cranks, traps, swimbaits,T and C rigs. Then back to frogs late in the evening. If you can find the bank with shad spawning up shallow in the morning thats where the best frog bites have been coming from. Hope this helps.
  12. I went checked out the ramp today and feel the water is high enough for my 17.5 pro crappie. Will be there tommorw at first lightdepending on the wind and weather got to check the weather station tonight.
  13. Thanks Catt, I had an idea that's what it was but wanted a better eye to confirm that's what I was seeing on my map. Will be fishing the 1215 area tommorw or friday.
  14. Use the right, rod, reel and line for how your fishing. When you feel a bite aka bump, reel down if you feel the fish try to jerk it's face off. With cranks I'm going to have to disagree with others, when they hit it jerk it as hard as with any bait, it has more hooks and if you jerk it hard you are going to get a deeper hook set and more of the hook barb's will set. I fish frogs they are my number 1 lure and you have to try and jerk a bass's face off when you set the hook with it, so I just started setting the hook that way no matter what bait I'm throwing and I have noticed the number of bass that throw my hook has dropped. Others will disagree but do this go out fishing and no matter what bait your running set the hook as hard as you can each time and report back. I would be willing to bet you lose less fish due to them throwing the hook. Just remember pick the right reel, rod and string for the job.
  15. I would pull it and put it up as a collector's item and then drop the cash on a new air cooled motor from cabela's. Properly make some good cash on it to the right collector.
  16. Jcdogfish, what part of the lake was you fishing?
  17. Ok so I tryed to fish the area I posted this morning but due to high winds and lots of boat traffic I was unable to fish it, couldn't find a stump to tie off to so I could fish it and wind and wave action was too much for both my anchors. My plan was to position my boat over the high spots and run my baits coming back up hill from the deeper channel area between them. I was going to try Trig, Crig, cranks and jigs, but it didn't work out for me, might try it again mid week when there is much less boat traffic.
  18. Take it to the lake, launch and park the boat out the way then pull up out the way and do the work, that would be my first choice. If you have the right gear and a good solid tree in the yard you can put a nylon 3inch lifting strap under the boat at the bow and stern and hook that to a 3ton chain fall and lift it up off the trailer, pull the trailer out do the work then push the trailer back and lower the boat back on the trailer.
  19. 102-1215 area Waypoint 31 Too me it looks like a channel between to ridges. Hook and line map, right next to the big red 31 and 31a waypoint marks.
  20. Bandit, 100,200. Pearl and black back and silver and black back all year, just slow it down when I need too.
  21. So Catt, What's the next part of the lake we will be getting lesson's on? I'm ready for some more learning. Can I suggest a area?
  22. Bass asassain and caffine swimming shad.
  23. That would be easy for me I would stay home and fish the Bend for 30 days straight daylight to dark.
  24. Wish I could have been on the water today dang job keeps getting in the way lol. Spend the whole day looking at the back side of pine tree's. But will be hitting the island's at first light tommorw.
  25. With the big DD crankbaits I have I can get down to 24 feet confirmed because it hit the bottom. But to do this I have a rod and reel designed to throw them and get them to run down that deep. But I will say this it will still wear you out even with the correct gear.
