  1. A lady that wants to fish ... ON THE HONEYMOON. That is one lucky dude.
  2. I got one that I keep as a spare. I have not had to use it. I am interested to see what others say. Roll Tide
  3. Don't forget to try some SeaFoam in the gas line and SF Deep Creep in the carb intakes to clean out the junk in the lines and valves. Before you go rebuild the carb, this is easier and worked on my '88 Johnson 90HP ( at least so far ).
  4. We all know it's just in our heads but I always make my first cast, flip, or pitch of the day to unproductive water. If nothing else it confirms my reel settings are right. Another superstition I practice is when I tell myself 'this is the last cast' that's it, or next trip will suck. Roll Tide
  5. When you get the diagnosis. I am curious to see what is was. I have an older Johnson and it did the same thing. I thought it was a fuel problem ie. flow obstruction or water in fuel line etc. My mechanic said it might be a short in the stator coil that only acts up after engine gets hot. Since, I have not run engine at full throttle only 3/4 once on plane and problem has not reappeared, which makes me think the stator coil was the issue. Bama Nate
  6. Stay on the Coosa River chain lakes and find current. 800-525-3711 is the number to get the Ala Power daily generation schedules. Any color will work as long as it's green pumpkin. Good luck and enjoy your stay. Bama Nate
  7. MORE PICS OF THE GIRLFRIEND PLEASE!!!!!!!
  8. S.O.B. MINI ME - CHECK THEIR WEBSITE, YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN. WAR EAGLES ARE GOOD TOO IF YOU CAN FIND THE COLOR YOU WANT.
  9. I WISH YOU COULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF MY COLLEGE PROFS. BAMA NATE
  10. HEY MOTTFIA, HOW DID YOU DO AND WHAT WERE THE WINNING PATTERNS? I SAW WHERE A U OF A TEAM WON IT WITH A MONTEVALLO TEAM SECOND BUT I DID NOT SEE ANY DETAILS ON HOW THEY CAUGHT THEM. BAMA NATE
  11. I HAVE AN OLD ALL STAR MAGNUM SPIN ROD. WHEN FISHING IN THE RAIN THE LACQUER OVER THE GUIDE WRAPS AND OVER THE ROD SPECS (WRITEN SECTION ABOVE CORK) FOGS UP. I HAVE TRIED WAX AND DIDN'T WORK. SHOULD I PUT MORE LACQUER OVER AFFECTED AREAS OR SOMETHING ELSE? THANKS FOR ANY HELP. ROLL TIDE
  12. IF YOU USE A SPRAY FOAM, MAKE SURE IT IS A 'CLOSED CELL' FOAM WHICH IS OF COURSE MORE EXPENSIVE AND WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO BE ORDERED FROM A MARINE SUPPLY STORE. THE STUFF YOU GET A HARDWARE STORE IN A SPRAY CAN IS AN OPEN CELL FOAM THAT WILL SOAK UP WATER LIKE A SPONGE AND HOLD IT CAUSING ADDED WEIGHT AND WOOD ROT IF YOU HAVE A WOOD DECK, STRINGERS, ETC. ROLL TIDE
  13. TRY THE BLUFF BANKS ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE LOWER PART OF THE LAKE BY THE OLD RIVER CHANNEL. LOT OF SPOTTED BASS THERE. SHOULD BE GOOD IF WIND BLOWS RIGHT OR THERE IS ENOUGH WATER FLOWING OVER DAM TO CREATE CURRENT. SMALL SHAD RAPS AND SHAKEY HEADS SHOULD BE THE DEAL THERE. LARGEMOUTH WILL BE IN CREEKS OR UPRIVER. FOCUS ON THE EMERGENT VEGETATION WITH DEEPER WATER IN FRONT OF IT. TRY FROGS OR BASSTRIX TYPE SWIMBAIT ON TOP EARLY AND FLIP/PITCHING LATER IN DAY. LET US KNOW HOW YOU DO. P.S. IF YOU HAVE TIME THE STRIPER/WIPER ACTION SHOULD START CRANKING UP IN THE RIVER BELOW THE DAMS ABOUT THIS TIME. GOOD LUCK, BAMA NATE
  14. I understand that a fish can be hooked outside the mouth so long as you weren't sight fishing.
  15. YES IT WAS PUMPING WATER FINE. THANKS THOUGH. NATE
  16. THIS WEEKEND MY MOTOR RAN GREAT FOR A WHILE (5 MINUTES OR SO) THEN BOGGED DOWN AND WOULD ONLY RUN AT IDLE SPEED. STOPPED AND FISHED FOR A WHILE AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND RAN GREAT FOR ANOTHER 5 MINUTES OR SO AND DID SAME THING. I DECIDED TO GET BACK TO RAMP BEFORE I GOT STRANDED. WHEN I GOT CLOSE TO RAMP, I STOPPED AND CUT IT OFF, RESTARTED AND IT RAN GREAT FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS THEN BOGGED DOWN AGAIN, REPEAT, REPEAT. I AM GUESSING WATER IN THE FUEL LINE BUT AM INTERESTED IN ANY OTHER INTERPRETATIONS OF THE PROBLEM. MOTOR IS AN OLDER 90 HORSE JOHNSON 4 CYL. 2 STROKE AND I MIX THE OIL IN WITH THE GAS. 50 TO 1. THANKS FOR ANY THOUGHTS, NATE > > >
  17. Trail mix, water, and Bolthouse or Odwalla smoothie. Nothing with bananas in it. I don't understand the superstition of no bananas on a boat but I am not going against it. Roll Tide
  18. Why not split the difference with a canoe?
  19. SHAW IS ONE OF THE ULTIMATE GOOD GUYS IN A SPORT FULL OF GOOD GUYS. JUST FINISHED HIS BOOK OVER THE WEEKEND FROM A RECOMMENDATION FROM ANOTHER POST ON THIS SITE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. ROLL TIDE
  20. LET IT DRY. ROUGH UP WITH SAND PAPER. GET ALL DUST OUT, WIPE DOWN WITH ACETONE. FILL IN WITH BONDO BODY FILLER. WET SAND TO FLUSH WITH ORIGINAL SURFACE. THAT SHOULD GET THROUGH INTIL A PRO CAN MATCH YOUR GEL COAT FOR YOU OR IF YOU CAN MATCH IT WITH RESIN COLORANT, LEAVE BONDO A LITTLE BELOW ORGINAL SURFACE, GO OVER THE TOP OF IT WITH RESIN, WET SAND, REPEAT AGAIN INTIL YOUR HAPPY WITH IT, WAX. IF YOU GEL COAT YOURSELF MAKE SURE YOU GET SELF CURING RESIN (WAX ADDED) OR COVER WITH PLASTIC WRAP TO CURE FULLY. GOOD LUCK
  21. This is a good question. I fish a farm pond from time to time that has a jon boat on site. I carry a transom mount trolling motor, one of the batteries from my big boat, rods, and small tackle box in the back of my Tundra. I slide my rods in a 6.5 ft section of 4" pvc pipe up to the reels to keep them safe from something tipping over on them. Learned this one the hard way when the battery tipped over and scored the plank on a spinning rod. 1st attempted cast ... pop. It broke cleanly right above the cork. Hope this helps. Roll Tide
  22. Late summer (Aug/Sept) on a deep clear section of a southern reservoir. Very clear water, late afternoon, and dead calm glass surface. Lower end of Lake Tuscaloosa, for those familiar with it. I was fishing a point where a very steep bluff cut into it and had just caught a nice fish under a dock 30 yards away. I look down and a very large bass that is at least 6lbs (spot or LM, I could not tell) swims right under my boat with about 20 very small bass that appeared to be 1st year class - less than 6 inches all around it. Almost like pilot fish attached to a shark. Needless to say it started casting everything I had in the boat. None of the fish large or small even turned to look at a bait but weren't spooked either. I followed with the trolling motor casting away but they just swam along the bluff wall very slowly and finally went so deep I could not see them anymore. Why were all the small fish hanging with the big one that could easily eat 3 of them at a time and it was way past spawning time so that could not have been the reason. Water temp was probably 90 degrees.
  23. It can be done. Get the KVD 3 dvd set from Bass Pro Shops. Best $20 I have ever spent on fishing. KVD really gets into this in the 'Pitching to Heavy Hitters' one. Set your spool loose like for pitching but turn your magnets to the highest setting. Use a side arm loop cast. Don't throw hard, just get it started. Using a bait that skips well helps (internal weighted tube, senko, etc) although Van Dam was doing it with jigs and spinnerbaits. Get a 3/8 to 1/2 ounce casting plug and practice in your driveway skipping under your car or someone else's if you don't want to dent yours. Ha Ha. Good luck. Roll Tide
  24. I have noticed that the NADA prices for average retail for 7-10 year old boats is generally $2000-$3000 less (with motor and trailer per site) than what is being asked for by dealers and private sellers in 'Boattrader' and other websites / sources. Can I reasonably expect that much give in the price or is NADA B.S. Thanks for any input given, Bama Nate
  25. SHAKEY HEAD WITH WATERMELON WORM ON POINTS AND SHAD COLORED SPINNERBAIT OR BASSTRIX TYPE SWIMBAIT THROUGH THE WEEDS AND/OR SHALLOW WOOD. TOP WATER EARLY AND LATE. PREDOMINATE BAITFISH IS THREADFIN SHAD. ENJOY YOUR STAY. ROLL TIDE, BAMANATE
