Pre-Frontal Bassing ~
Visualize low pressure area being hundreds of miles in diameter carried by the jet stream. The actual storm that may be filling in the void is usually at the middle area of the pre frontal low pressure area. Flying Insects can easily fly in a low pressure area increasing baitfish activity until rain prevents this activity. Low pressure awakens the ecosystem creating predators like bass to be active, good for us! Tom

Pre-Frontal Bassing ~
Think of a pre front as a low pressure area where the air is rotating counter wise, the most sever low pressure is a hurricane along coastal regions. Think of a cold front or post frontal as a high pressure air rotating clock wide pushing into the vacuum left by the low pressure creating wind until both settle into normal pressure. Low pressure doesn’t always have a lot moisture but usually will have clouds and some rain. High pressure always has some wind blowing out the clouds increasing bright sunlight. Mountainous regions the low pressure creates up lifting of the clouds developing into thunder heads the friction causing lightning rain and hail at the high altitudes falling to the ground. Mild low pressure weather, light wind and rain with no lightning is ideal for fishing, severe weather stay home. Tom

Why is this color hard to find?
Just noticed a pork rind on the market Picasso JDM Pork Rind trailer. The red color on the chart looks very similar to reddish brown color (crusty crawdad) and the 3 1/2” is very similar shape to my custom Super Pork. The problem is price $17 for 2....yikes! Anyway this color works good👍. Tom

Pre-Frontal Bassing ~
I join my 1st bass club Pisces in 1969 to learn more about Florida strain LMB, they were very hard to catch on artificial lures. The 1st thing I learned from the top sticks was be on the water pre frontal during prey spawn. In San Diego that started in December through January at the same time we get our highest precipitation of rain, meaning frontal conditions. I continued this advice for over 40 years spending as much time on the as possible during pre spawn/pre frontal weather conditions and rewarded with a lot of big FLMB including all 5 listed. Some days were awful, most just miserable but I caught bass of a lifetime. Just have to tough it out unless lightning is a possibility then get off the water. Tom

A-Rigs
When A-rigs 1st hit the market Mann’s was the only rig available and poorly made. Today you have a wide choice available and recommend Flash Mob Jr’s, Picasso or Yum. Check your stats and lakes you plan to use the A-rig for number of hooks allowed. Easy to add dummies using CPS spring to attach swimmers. Tackle is Important, 7’8” to 8’ MH Swimbait rods with 300 size reels are good. The reason a longer it’s easier to launch A-rigs having about 3’ of line between the rod tip and rig. Line is your choice I prefer 25#-30# copoly line. The swimmers you choices, Keitech works. I prefer a 1” longer trailing swimmer. Retrieve; when I first started a steady retrieve worked ok but soon that stopped working and needed to add a pulsating retrieve to get the swimmer changing cadence. Depth should be slightly above the suspended bait fish. It’s easy to add weight using a bullet weight in front of the A-rig head. Good luck! Tom

MLF Announces Changes To Bass Pro Tour
B.A.S.S. Became BASS when ESPN purchase them. ESPN thought all bass anglers were (red nick) NASCAR racing fans changing the fishing format into a racing format because they (ESPN) didn’t consult with the anglers who know their sport. B.A.S.S.members bailed out into FLW being with higher payouts and better ground roots program. Both B.A.S.S. and FLW changed ownership followed by increasing cost for the anglers to compete requiring more and more high dollar sponsors willing to support anglers who were good at selling themselves. MLF was born out of the high cost to compete and was successful at recruiting top pros to their format. I believe MLF is falling on their own sword forgetting who they are and the top pros on the cutting board don’t have anywhere to go today. House hold pro names will be lost in the mist and that isn’t good for any sport. Tom

Crankbaits…where to start?
Shore bond angler eliminates what you can effectively use without loosing a high % of your lures. Boaters have a big advantage with unlimited choices and presentations. From shore I suggest using floating lures the dive less then 10’. You can stop the retrieve using a floater and it will slowly raise up to get over snags. Jointed lures you can “wake” effectively and retrieve faster if needed. Flat side crank baits including lipless have a faster tighter wiggle and run straight without wondering side to side. The bill shape coffin, square, rounded also change the wiggle somewhat with rounded having the most rolling action. Color are wide ranging and usually popular by region, you are in Ohio where shade (silver-chartreuse)) bluegill (green-blue), crappie (green with dots) and crawdad (dark red-brown) are popular. Your tackle is suited for crank baits between 1/4 to 5/8 oz and suggest using 12# Big Game mono. Berkley Fritz side, Bomber 6A, Rapala DT4 & J13 (jointed), Bill Lewis Rattle Trap are all good choices. Tom

Don't do this!
Reels that use metal components keystone base cleaners are not an issue, composite components you shouldn’t use any keystone base solvents like Acetone. Soaps leave a residue including Simple Green. Denatured alcohol is a good over cleaner. Lubricants, quality light viscosity reel oil and gear grease works, super tuning should be done by a knowledgeable reel technician for best results. I use BreakFree CLP for lubricating level wind and spool shafts in between tear down servicing by a technician. Tom
