The bigger diameter lines are FG knot friendlier for me.
No, look at “wind on” leaders or top shot video’s. Tom

Storing loose plastics
Keep the soft plastics separated by size and color in zip lock bags. Put the smaller sand which size bags together by color in a larger gallon size zip lock and write on the bag with a Sharpie pen what’s in the big bag. I put the bags in a soft tackle bag and only take out what I need for outing. Tom

Bass Spawning times.
I have been bass fishing since 12 years old before that fishing for crappies since water safe about 3 years old. So what I am saying is studied bass for over 70 years and base my options on personal observation. I was curious kid and watched Largemouth bass come into our cove at Big Bear lake California about the same month year after year, Late May to early June. The males always showed up 1st building nest while some females would cruise by for a week or so before moving onto beds to lay eggs. The females wound lay eggs in more then one bed. So I thought bass spawn in That time period. A few years later we moved off the mountain to Sunland in SoCal and observed the LMB spawned in late March, Sunland is north of Big Bear about 100 miles so it wasn’t a month time or a photoperiod time, it was water temperature that started the bass to spawn. The common denominator was water temperature. I bought a Dark Ind thermometer with 50’ probe on spool and started measure the bass I caught body temperature and the water temperature at the depth the was caught. I did this for a few years developing my Cosmic Clock and Bass Calendar based on water temperature and bass behavior. This worked for me entire bass fishing time the last 50 years. Tom

Acid Wrap - Theory vs Practical Application
The spiral wrap rods popularity comes and goes. I considered having a few custom rods built using the spiral guide train until trying out the Huddleston Swimbait rod with spiral guides. The rod performed good but my issue was laying the rod down with guides on the deck. Decided to pass for that reason. Tom

The bigger diameter lines are FG knot friendlier for me.
Salt water big game fish I always used hollow braid with a Wind On leader/top!shot, no knot! For standard braid to 60 lb the Albright knot works good. Didn’t know about the FG knot back in the day! Tom

Bass Spawning times.
Bass covers several species other than Largemouth bass. Smallmouth, Spotted to other common bass species. The thing to keep in mind is bass are individuals and behave as individuals the majority of the seasonal periods. The spawn cycle bass change their individual behavior and group up into males and females as 2 groups during pre spawn as the water temperatures warm from the cold water winter period. The days are getting longer, night temperatures are warming and this warms the water column. Warming water triggers changes in the bass. The males move up into areas where they select bed sites and stake out the area. The females are developing eggs as the water warms and they instinctively start to feed more aggressively in preparation of the actual egg laying into the beds the males have ready. At this time both males and females start the spawn cycle and stop eating. Like most animals the full moon cycle influences reproduction behavior. A portion of the population start the spawn cycle around the 2 nights before during the full moon and 2 nights after, a 5 day/night period. We call the 1st wave generally when the water at the depth the bass are located reaches 62 degrees for Largemouth and is over basically about 70 degrees. There are early birds and later gators in the bass world that start in colder water and warmer water but the success rate is lower. It takes longer to hatch eggs in colder water and shorter in warmer water but the bluegill start their spawn around 75 degrees and raid the bass beds along with other egg fish and birds. Yes the full moon affects the bass spawn but the spawn a few times during the spawn cycle, it’s not 1 massive run to spawn. Tom

Etiquette Questions?
Oldschool fishing etiquette was simple common sense. As generations change so has respect and common sense fades. Today you see tournament anglers are fishing within a few feet of each other were common sense the distance was at least a long cast or 150’ apart. 1st boat on a spot it’s theirs until they leave then it’s up for grabs. This means you leave the spot is no longer yours to return to unless it’s not occupied. Tom

New Bottom Contact Rod
Instead offing you a specific rod want advise that lure weights in rods vary greatly and are only a guide. JWR meaning jig and worm rod ie; bottom contact rod. What makes a good jig rod is light weight coupled with hook setting power. Sensitivity comes from the high density graphite blanks, reel seat and guide train. Several very good JWR rods are available high price isn’t your best baseline. Line used is very important and if you choose braid w/leader make sure the guide train is functional with leader knots. My suggestion is use straight premium FC line around 12 lb test. Medium Heavy or 5 power rods can easily cast 3/16 oz weight and 3/4+ weights regardless of the lure weight rating using the reel you plan to use. Rod weight between 3 1/2 oz to 4 for rods 6’10” to:7’3” and mfr you have good customer service and warranty. Tom PS, If I was looking for a rod today the Okuma X series rods meet all the above; XB-C-731MH Xfast

Purchasing a BFS rod, and overwhelming at selection. Open to considerations.
From the OP’s opening description USA BSF, basically ML finesse, basically casting in lieu of spinning. I have this rod coupled with Ark Limited Edition BSF reel, perfect match👍 Look at the specs the reviews and make a informed decision. Tom

Can the thicker upper body of pintail trailers be too much or overpower/throw the balance of smaller bladed jigs?
Cut the trailer off where. The hook is coming out a and hook nose hook the trailer to remove the plastic body on the hook shank. Better action and hook up ratio. Tom

Baitcaster oiling/greasing info, Please!
Your reel came with light oil that works good. Grease only a small amount goes on the drive gears,Cals is good. Th level wind worm gear and spool shaft and bearings I use Break free CLP oil in the 2 oz bottle. There is all types of light reel oils available but I suggest have a pro super tune your reeks! Tom

Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
California now has a boater safety card you must have to operate a power boat that should help to educate boaters about operating the boat safely. Most California public lakes have a 35 mph rule, it’s rarely enforced but the 5 mph no wake zones are enforced. When a bass boat takes off the bow is up and you can’t see over it so you need to look before getting on plane. GPS isn’t accurate enough to use a autopilot at this time, that requires radar. Be aware and drive responsibly is the only way accidents can be avoided. The old saying speed kills is true, slow down when in doubt! Tom

Lund Fury 1600
My garage is 19’6” with the door closed. I could park a Triton TR-175 w/ 115 hp Optimax and swing tongue trailer straight into that space without any issues. The key being a swing tongue trailer. You have options! Tom

Loose trolling motor plug
The plug (with pin / blades ) and 1 ground pin is a NEMA 5 standard 15 amp. You can bend ( splay) the blade pins outward slightly to improve contact retention. Most boats use 3 contact twists lock plug and receptacle to eleminate lose contact. If the plug has 70 amp round pins you need to replace the plug, receptacle w/ sockets, sound be OK. Tom

Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
To avoid a collision during the start of a bass tournament a patrol boat should warn boaters to stay out of the area before the start of event. Once the tournament boats clear the starting area it’s up to the boat driver to avoid collisions. The problem I see is the large sonar screens block off forward vision and that needs to be addressed. When I had a bass boat my Sonar screens were located not to impede my forward vision. This should be mandatory and fold down units that block vision. The boat driver is at fault and the MLF could be found negligent if they allowed an unsafe start of the event. Tom

Sunny vs Overcast?
Cloudy weather indicates a low pressure system is overhead and most of the predators in ecosystems are active do in part to lower light levels. Lower light helps to reduce the basses ability to see lures or line easily and make more mistakes strikes lures in lieu or live prey. LMB tend to roam and hunt larger areas under lower light conditions, Smallmouth roam and hunt under good light or low light conditions. What changes odds is the bed fish during the spawn. Bed fish are not hunting prey, they are protecting their nest area and far easier for anglers to see with bright clear sky and calm water surface. Low light makes it difficult to see a bed fish. Tom

Alabama Rig - Legality
2 or 3 treble hooks attached to 1 lure is considered 1 hook. The exception added is Alabama rigs are not 1 lure, therefore only 2 lures can be used on the A-rig. California has similar regulations for fresh water fishing. Tom

weight sizes
Sort the weighs out by size first, then remove the hard tungsten weights into another group. When weighing count out 10 and weigh then divide the weight by 10. If you use 5 weights then divide by 5. This will give you accurate weights. Tom
