  1. Some algae is very dangerous to your health and the fishery unless you know what type it is avoid fishing there. When the algae is treated by chemicals the DO (dissolved oxygen) drops and the fish are stressed, another reason to avoid fishing at that lake. If you insist on bass fishing use what was working before the bloom. Tom
  2. Very different presentations. Free rig is close relative to the Bullet weight Texas rig. Tom
  3. Gary Klein Jay Yelas Aaron Martins Skeet Reese Ish Monroe Don Iovino, hall of fame Father or Finesse fishing Dee Thomas, Flipping presentation Mike Falkstad, western pro legend Dick Trask, Split Shot presentation, western bass pro Butch Brown, trophy bass angler help to developed Huddleston and Deps swim baits. Bill Murphy, Pursuit of Giant Bass. A few off the top of my head. Tom
  4. We see the word “pro” and associate that with professional not promotional, these bass fisherman make their profession selling tackle etc for their sponsors. The top pro can sell his signature name on tackle he promotes. The pro bass angler didn’t get his sponsors by selling tackle he won them over winning or doing well in tournaments. Most of the pro bass anglers have pet lures and tackle they rely on, ideally they get sponsored by those same companies while making a name for themselves, no conflict of interest. To think these anglers don’t share info and lures when they are not in the hunt during a tournament naïveté. Tom
  5. Traveled to the England / Scotland and Baltic / Scandinavia countries, 10 counties in all. What Learned was internet content is unsafe to use, WiFi is OK on secured network. For this reason stayed off the BR site while on the trip. Counties near the war are frightened it will spread and worry the war will come to them. For use it’s news to them it’s life and death sad to hear they are so scared. Beautiful countries very green and windy generally good weather with lots and lots of history, enjoyed our vacation. Tom
  6. One of my favorite quotes came from the late Tom Mann “Think Like a Bass” in fact it’s the title of his book! The truth is we don’t have any idea what bass think! Don’t know how their brain interprets colors, shapes or sounds. All we can do is try to fool the bass into eating our lures by guess by golly. In the bass underwater world they live by eating prey and avoid getting eaten by bigger predators. Bass are not well developed animals they are lower on the brain department then most other other animals but equal to most other fish. This means they do not have a temper it’s beyond their ability to have that emotion. They do have a high survival ability to find prey, avoid being eaten and good at reproducing their species. In the basses world if it moves and looks like prey it must be prey but…they can be selective targeting to most preferred prey avoiding critters they had negative experiences trying to eat. Ask the bass what it’s thinking! Tom
  7. No! If the mono/copoly/ FC line is larger diameter then .010, the memory will cause you problems. With spinning reels angler use braid main line with larger diameter leaders to solve this problem. Tom
  8. Jig n pig ( hair jig w/ pork rind trailers) have caught all 5 of my giant bass 17 lbs to 19 lbs! Caught several DD bass on various other lures hand poured soft plastic worms being # 2, big 7”-9” swim baits #3 and deep diving crank baits #4 and spinnerbaits #5. Tom
  9. What is important to bass…feeding! Bass are located near their prey source, don’t forget that! Locate the life depth zone and prey depth that is where the bass will be, not where we want them to be! Tom
  10. Best to have DVL solve the problem plus professionally clean and tune your reel. Tom
  11. Thermocline isn’t static it bends with wind and mixes with current and displaced to reform again the same day in different area of a large lakes.
  12. We are pulling for a successful operation. Tom
  13. The I remember the 1st time picking up a Daiwa TD Minnow and sticking myself the were so sharp! Everyone was talking about how sharp the new Japanese hooks were and Gary Kliens new weapon jig hood was amazing. I was using either Eagle Claw or Mustad jig hooks before ordering Gamakasu 640 hooks to make my jigs early 1990. Game changer. The Gamakatsu hooks stayed sharper longer than any other jig hook I tried over several decades. If you stick a rock it will dull the hook point and a diamond hook is needed to resharpen the point. Jig fishing a sticky sharp hook sticks the basses mouth giving me a better chance to detect the strike! All I use now is either Gamakatsu or Owner hooks. Tom
  14. Give it try! Live night crawler fly lined.
  15. I use 12 lb Tatsu for my jig and T-rig/weight basically my go to bottom contact bait casting line. Not worried being broken by bass fighting. Tom
  16. FC or Mono line that exceeds .010 diameter has too high memory for use on size 1000 to 3000 spinning reels. Berkley Big Game FC is .010 diameter for 6 lb, 011 dia for 8 lb and .012 dia for 10 lb , making 6 lb the only choice for bass size spinning reels. Why Berkley introduced another FC line that is larger diameter than Seaguar and Sunline make no sense to me. Tom
  17. It looks more like a line management issue no keeping the line tight. Try using your index finger on the spool between rod drops to keep some tension on the line. Another trick is make a short cast know and then and put a little tension on the with your finger when reeling back in. Loose braid line isn’t good! Tom
  18. No need imo how accurate you need to be counting bass, just use your memory is a good enough estimate. Some anglers get real anal about numbers of bass caught. Tom
  19. Vexus AVX 1880 hands down. Step hull rides and fishes like a glass bass boat. 18’ 8” is long enough and very stable boat. The XPress is a tunnel hull for shallow draft and water conditions, good boat but unless you fish shallow water areas not the best choice. Also add Lund Pro-V 1875 to your lists, similar to Crestliner but better built boat imo. Tom
  20. Some night give them try… Tom
  21. Pick up a copy of Western Outdoor News a weekly publication that has fairly accurate information what is going on in California fishing including SoCal lakes. Orange county you don’t have a lot of good public bass lakes near you. Traveling north to lakes Castaic and Casitas both are good. South to San Diego city lakes are all good, south east to Diamond Valley is good, about 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive depending on traffic. The biggest adjustment is these lakes have Florida intergrade Northern LMB that prefer finesse presented soft plastics and swim baits most of the time. I suggest hiring a guide to learn techniques to fish these lakes. Tom
  22. Using both eyes you see where the dominate is focused using both eyes you have depth perception. Casting at a small target the target is still where your dominate eye see’s it. Being left eye dominate my trained brain tries to compensate by adding wind age or aiming to one side. My 1st cast are usually off to one side then automatically adjust to off set and be more accurate. I my case it make a difference in accuracy not distance using both eyes casting right handed and being left eye dominate. Tom
  23. If you can see the bass they can see you is a truism. Back off a fly line unweighted wacky rigged 4” Senko on 6 lb mono or FC line. Cast it to where you think the bass are located let sink on its own and watch the line for any movements. When it moves reel the line tight and do the rod speed sweep hook set. Repeat the cast several times. Tom
  24. Don’t think you all know what dominate eye means! Your dominate eye see’s where thing actually are locates. If you are right eye dominate and cast using your left hand the true position of your target is the left several feet casting over 30’ distance with both eyes open. Easy to test eye dominance. Very lap your hands making a triangular opening with your thumbs and index fingers. Extend your arms looking through the triangular opening place a distant object in the opening. Now close your right eye, then without moving the hands close the left eye. If the object disappears with the right eye you are left eye dominate, if it doesn’t disappear you are right eye dominate. Being right handed and left eye dominate or visa versa the actual target is to one side. You will never over come being opposite hand vs eye dominate unless you learn to use the same hand as eye dominate. Tom
