  1. Depends on the water quality sediment etc and how often the impeller is changed. Annually if the housing is in good condition the impeller only. 2 or 3 years or the water pressure is pulsing use a kit. Tom
  2. Glenn suggested a PET scan to resolve any questions. Be proactive and insist you get a PET scan. Tom
  3. Nice, what rods do like? Tom
  4. Can’t imagine casting a egg sinker C-rig into rip rap and getting back! Tom
  5. It’s the rod that cast lures, the reel and line determines how far the cast will go. The Light rated BSF rods can launch 1/16 oz lure. Currently 3/32 total weight is about the lightest weight lure that casts about 100’ easily with 5 lb UG Copoly line. Tom
  6. I was fishing Castiac a lot in the early 90’s and one morning after launching my boat and parking my trailer a young woman walked over to me. You can’t see the boat from the parking lot so I was always in hurry to back to the boat. The woman introduced herself and ask if I would take her fishing. Know one ever asked me to take them in a parking lot so didn’t how to answer her. Her name was Jan and said a freind told her that I was a good jig fisherman and she wanted to learn. I said sure meet me at the boat. Jan walked down to the boat with a casting rod and tackle bag. Still skeptical and not sure what to do she got into my boat put her PFD on ready to fish. I showed her what the jig looked like in water at the ramp. Made a short cast demonstrated my retrieve technique. Tied on 1 of my jigs with a pork trailer. Ran to the closest spot I knew had some jig fish and pointed out the lay of the land, what the structure looked underwater and explained where I thought bass should be on a submerged road bed. Moved to a good spot and made a cast as she watched my retrieve. Jan was a very skilled caster and fast learner. We caught 3 good size bass in that area for about an hour. Jan told me her husband John was meeting her at the marina so took her back. Still amazed to this day and told the story to Don Iovino and said that was Jan Morrell and she team fishes with her husband John. Jan passed away from cancer about 5 years after that outing. Tom
  7. Agree, you can’t detect 2% stretch fighting a bass fighting a bass, with nearly 1% stretch at 20% line strength mono stretch angler can’t detect that. What is being assumed as stretch is line bow in the line being pulled snug. Using a 6’ leader with drag set 40% line strength (very high ) the line stretch is about 1.44”, not worth 2 knots. Tom
  8. The rain is gone, winter water temps are here now🥶 Tom
  9. Show me a stretch chart with mono line applied 1/4th the line strength over 2 seconds time applied force! The stretch % is zero! Tom
  10. Never fished a speed worm, looks like would be a good night fishing worm that moves a lot of water. Tom
  11. All the blue highlighted reels. Tom
  12. Trailer tires weaken over time in the sidewalls not the tread. I always changed my glass bass boat trailer tires after 8 years of use without any tire issues. Most use was at 35-55 mph speed anywhere from 40 miles one way to 900 miles one way on descent roadways. Tire inflation pressure was whatever the tires were rated for. My Shoreline small wheel 14’ Lund boat trailer I bought a extra spare wheel and tire and never changed the tire after 30 years of use without any issues, short trips and kept an eye on the sidewalls that looked good. Kept both trailers garage and used Bearing Buddies which helps a lot. Tom
  13. Positive attitude is half the battle! will 🙏for you often. Tom
  14. I haven’t fished a traditional C-rig in decades. I use the Slip Shot rig or Finesse C-rig since the 80’s when teaching my son how to bass fish. Using the mainline without a leader and adjustable weight to hook length with 1 knot at the hook saves a lot time, the cylinder weight reduces snags and the sliding weight improves strike detection. Tom
  15. My rods have small ID micro guides that do not accommodate knots well, including FG and don’t need braid for strength or toothy fish. What is a backlash using today’s BFS reels? Tom
  16. If the OP has a 35 hp Evinrude (0MC) now out of business! The choices are original from sources who stock them, knock offs from who knows where, or scavenge an old engine. Best source is Way2slow, Kieth is a wonderful resource, pm him. Tom
  17. No braid with leader knots for me! I use straight Maxima UG 5# test copoly line, works good with my BFS rods and reels. Tom
  18. Being a student of Jason Lucas who promoted light line bass fishing that equaled to or was not more than 2X the weight of the fish as a sport. Using line and tackle 4X to 10X stronger than the weight of the fish was meat fishing, not sport. Each to his or her own tackle and how to use it. Bass are very forgiving fish, not necessary powerful or fast, but they will strike a wide variety of lures and presentations that make them very popular fish to catch regardless of how you prefer to go about it. Tom
  19. Wider spool and wider reel frame. Take a look at JDM site like Digitaka, save about 40% on average shipped. Tatula TUSV100XH ( new model) ( 8.1:1) is $170 shipped in 3 days. Tom
  20. Easy to clean unsealed cork using Mr Clean Magic Eraser without losing any of the cork. I clean the cork when I think it’s needed. Tom
  21. Stating composite is the same as plastic is true because composite uses some grade of polymer to bind the carbon fibers and that is where the similarity ends. Metal thread inserts are common to strengthen plastics thread strength. Self tapping screws should never be used when the product is subjected to being taken apart and re assembled. If you fly a commercial aircraft today they are made with multiple composite parts to save weight. Tom
  22. Spinning combo’s back seating finesse bass fishing became a PIA with inaccurate cast, line twist etc. Changing BSF eliminated all my spinning outfit issues plus increased casting distance using light finesse lures. I still use my jig rod and Medium Splash-It top water casting rods. The average size bass where I fish is about 2 3/4 lbs when finesse fishing and BFS is a lot of fun fighting the average bass and enjoy it. Did catch 1 good jig bass last year close to 8 lbs, just fish where my partner takes the boat. Tom
  23. The CPS spring may damage 1/4” of the nose, cut it off. If you don’t like removing a 1/4” then get out your soldering iron and melt the 1/4” together. Now ask yourself why refurbish and buy new on sale? Tom
