Going to sound silly, but...
Wow....that picture with all the line out is pretty amazing . I can't believe that knot held. I have always wondered what knot to tie to the spool, but just ended up tying overhands b/c I had the attitude that if they ripped that much line I was sc**wed anyways. Might have to rethink that.

elephant butte newmexico report and pics
I don't like trailer hooks either. Same thing as you, I think its a confidence thing. I don't normally have a problem with hook-ups on spinnerbaits anyways. So I think when I add the trailer hook i'm worried about the action, hanging up, or collecting weeds.

more fish *pic*
Nice fish. I would guess 8 lbs.

What if???
Fly, I don't know for sure, but I would think that the job market in the Austin area would be much better than the coast.

UMF.. Clausen vs. Ehrler
I liked Clausen. I'm very disappointed though. I thought for sure when he decided to not fish the 4th he was just going to DQ himself. Lost respect for him that he didn't. In my mind offering a fish in his livewell in noway makes up for what happened. What if the fish Ehler had was 71/2 lbs. I think Clausen probably was just messing around and didn't mean to bite the line off, or thought he had the fish. However, when he grabbed his rod theres noway he thought he had the fish. He was probably just messing around, but should of accepted the consequence like a man and DQ'd himself.

Yeah, I know. Sounds funny, but looking at the size of that hole it wouldn't take to much head shaking to get the hook through it.

Soft Stick bait color preference
Fished the most: 1)Watermelon Red 2)green pumpkin Good colors for almost any color water. Wouldn't hestitate to throw either in clear on muddy water. Fished a lot: black neon chart. tail, Favorite muddy water color. sour grape best in slightly stained water shimmer shad, nice all around color, but a little better in clearer water imo. black and blue. stained to muddy is best I think all the colors i've listed are great. There all on the dark end of the spectrum, but are very naturally colored. So they can be fished in almost any water. The only two colors I have fished that I didn't like are watermelon candy and watermelon chartruse laminate. I don't like anyones watermelon candy though. I've only tried the watermelon chartruse laminate twice. I ordered a hundred of these things b/c I liked the looks of the color so much. Going to stick with this color though b/c I still love the looks of it. Probably was just a bad day for fishing. If you see a color from *** you love I wouldn't hesitate to get it. I think any color will work, and if you like it your going to fish it with more confidence. Hope this helped.

Identify Fish
There was just an article in the Fort Worth Star telegram this week about someone who had caught a red bellied pacu out of a pond or stream that goes into one of our big area lakes during flooding. If you live any where in North Texas I would strongly suggest reporting your catch to the fish and game dept.

Any thoughts on Dives To Series cranks?
I'm not a big crank bait fisherman, but I like these baits. I fish many of the cheaper brand crankbaits as well, but feel the DT's are the best value IMO. Has many of the high end, 15 dollar a bait, features at less than half the cost. I like the all the colors already suggested, but can't believe nobody has mention baby bass. It or bluegill are my absolute favorite. For the life of me I don't understand why every crankbait company doesn't put the dive depth on the bill.

Can someone school me on Baby Brush hogs?
Sorry, for the hijack. You guys using it as jig trailers. Do you cut it down or use the whole thing?

Can someone school me on Baby Brush hogs?
I fish mine on a baitcaster, usually with a 4/0 hook and a 1/8 weight. Unless its real windy and then i'll go with a bigger weight. It is also my favorite soft plastic with the exception of the senko type baits. IMO senko type baits are the ultimate in proving sometimes less is more. I wouldn't worry about the action they obviously catch fish. The color you went with will be fine. The only other thing you need to know is that when you run out of the bag you bought get your next order from ***. The version they make is at LEAST 3 time better. He puts salt in them and like 25 cloves of garlic per bag . Obviously, he doesn't put actual garlic cloves in there, but I have no idea how he gets those things to stink so good if he doesn't. The garlic coupled with the fact that he already sales many colors with spiked tails elimanates the need for JJ's. IMO, of the baits from *** i've tried this is hands down the best one.

Plastics Storage by Color, brand, type??? HELP
I've done the shopping bag thing before. Works pretty good. The plus is that is never organized to beging with so anytime you lose searching for the bait is made up not having to reorganize it later. Now that I have a back pack though I keep my favorites in the smaller pouches and everything else where it will fit.

Handheld Scale Question
Two ways that I know of. Put the fish in a plastic grocery bag and hang the bag on the scale. Get one of those "hooks" that are on a metal stringer and attach it to your scale. The wire diameter of the metal stringer hook is much smaller than the scales hook. It won't leave as big as hole in the fishes mouth and is much easier to get through than the scales hook. I prefer this option b/c it doesn't remove any protective slime from the fish.
