  1. You are probably going to get a lot of differing opinions on this. I believe that the bigger the body of water the more effect the solar/lunar tables have. However, weather will always trump them in my opinion. I try to pay as little attention to them as possible. I don't want to know that it a poor solar/lunar day right after a cold front with bluebird skys. It just gives you one more excuse not to catch fish, and confidence trumps both weather and solar/lunar tables. I think they are a good tool when you are planning a special trip months in advance, but other than that probably should be ignored in day to day fishing. Just get on the water.
  2. Gman, I'm in the housing industry and deal with this stuff daily. If you want to PM I will be glad to help where I can. Soffit vents are a good/inexpensive start. There are many other things you can do to drastically lower that bill. I don't sell any of this stuff, i'm in new home sales, so i'm not going to try to sell you anything. Unless you want a new house in the DFW area . By the way if you insulation is only as high as a 2X4 you are drastically under insulated. I'm pretty sure you are being sarcastic, but just wanna make sure.
  3. I got one on a combo once for a b-day gift, and was upset b/c it didn't say shimano or abu on the side. I'm such a snob. Has worked great, and b/c of the rod it was on it is my main walk the dog type bait topwater reel. Don't know if I would buy one for myself, but if the question is has it broken, malfuncitoned or not been able to do something I asked it to then the answer is no. If someone ever give me another one I'll slap it on a rod and start fishing it.
  4. If you can afford high dollar equipment it may very well be worth every penny. Its going to vary individual to individual. Anybody that isn't a blowhard is going to tell you that you can catch fish on prettty much any rod and reel. On the other side anybody fishing bargain equipment should tell you that a shimano something of the other may be better than their 30 dollar reel, but not 200.00 better in THEIR opinion. I will always fish the nicest gear I can afford/what my wife will let me get away with. However, the higher priced you go in any merchandise the less bang your getting for your buck. For instance, I guarantee you the difference between a 30.00 reel and a 130.00 reel is quite a bit, but the differnce between a 350.00 reel and a 450.00 is considerably less(still better but less).

    IMO, complete and total crap.
  6. You guys are lucky. My wife could care less about fishing. RoLo, I like the new avatar.
  7. Man, you have to do what you wanna do, but I would take Roadwarriors suggestion and until then fish it with whatever I had laying around. It will make that Curado that much sweeter when you get what you want.
  8. Matt, I'm getting excited for me some UT football. Your right the TCU game could be tough. I respect their program as well, but their nowhere near as good as Boise State was last year. The year they beat Oklahoma was two years ago, but they were way down. If our receiver were healthy, or even two of them, we should handle TCU no problem. I think there are tougher games on the schedule, but drawing a pretty good TCU club so early with health issues could bite us. A&M is so much better this year, but they have a brutal schedule.
  9. Avid, If I remember correctly Bill Dance said crawfish, and sited the previously mentioned tank test as evidence.
  10. can't stop laughing ;D.
  11. Ok, she didn't answer that very well at all, but seriously on the spot that would be a very difficult question to answer. The easy answer is "Well apparently 20% of Americans are dumba**es or have shi**y parents." Obviously that answer was not an option.
  12. With no livewell I would of put it in the water and pulled it around in circles for 30 seconds to 1 minute, and then quickly weighed the fish. If it got to feeling perky and flopped around and got away oh well. Nothing wrong with what you did though.
  13. Nice fish, man. Looks like you have that place figured out.
  14. Funny stuff. Good thinking cutting your line. I probably would of jammed the hook in my leg, or got treble hooks all in my hands b4 I thought of that.
  15. 12 years.......no skunks . Very impressive.
  16. Great pictures LBH. Brought a smile to my face. Loved the picture of you and your family. Dad sure looks proud. Avid, That didn't come out right, dude.
  17. I think he was referring to the weight of the bait. If your going to purchase so many heavy lures you need to get heavier rod. You can find a decent one very cheap. Probably would only have to mow 3 lawns.
  18. Matt Fly, I'm in new home sales. Off on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fish as much as I can on those two days. Usually manage to get out both days. I managed to get to Fork once this year. I'm close enough that if I had a boat I would go a lot more. I grew up in a very small town. So I know quit a few people with large tanks that my fishing partner and I can take our small two man boat out on. We also recently discovered a 500-700 acre lake that almost nobody knows about that is perfect for our little boat.
  19. About how much does he cut them down if any?
  20. Spinnerbaits are probably my favorite hard bait. I'm suprised how many people on here struggle with them. Cranks on the other hand i'm horrible with. I hear how your supposed to bounce it of stumps and such and wonder how the he** you do that without getting it hung up.
  21. Yes on the wind, imo. Good luck with the challenge.
  22. Welcome. Glad to help. She'll be staying more than 30 minutes b4 you know it.
  23. Hookemdown, Thanks for the heads up. Wife uses it not me. I'll tell her there might be better programs, but I know she uses it to order pictures of our digital camera.
  24. Sounds like fun.
