  1. Rod: DG Rodworks custom 6' MH/F SCII spiral wrapped casting Reel: Cabela's Prodigy Line: Berkley XT 10lb Lure: Berkley 7" Original Powerworm in Blue Fleck or Junebug
  2. Somebody mentioned Alconite guides. I too would like to see them more widely used. I would also like to see spincast reels with higher gear ratio for the youngsters. It is hard for them to fish a spinnerbait etc at 3.6:1
  3. Muddy, Did you know that you made the Cabela's catalog this year? I think it was your comments about the Fish Eagle II rods??
  4. For me, Fireline has it's place. I use it very little but there is a specific situation where nothing does better for me. I do not use it around rock. It cuts grass like a lawnmower with a razor sharp blade. I use the 4/10 for a specific "finesse" pattern and thats about it. Beyond that it's hard to live with....for me anyway.
  5. I have one baitcaster (07 model) and I used it more than any of my other reels last year. Has held up well to being fished hard, but I've come to expect that from Daiwa products. Can't tell a difference from when it was new. Excellent perfomance for the price!!! I have the spinning version too, same story there. I'd buy another, or recommend, in a heartbeat.
  6. For Bass.... Mine is a St Croix Avid 5'6" M with a Cabela's Tourney ZX 2000A spinning reel. I know it's not a UL, but it's as light as I can stand to go for bassin'. I use 6lb XT or 10lb Fireline on it.
  7. What gave me the biggest jump was the teachings of Buck Perry, introduced to me by a guy named Roger Betts. I cannot thank Roger enough for sending me down this path.... and Buck for creating it. Without that foundation to build upon, everything else wouldn't have mattered.
  8. Certainly like my Revo's, what blows me away is how much popularity they have gained on this site alone in just the past year.
  9. If you ask RW nicely you can probably get his "barely used" STX for that much too.
  10. Well, that didn't last long. It's no longer $75. Boy did that tick me off, hopefully they will go on sale again.
  11. d**n right! Thanks for the heads up, gonna stop at Cabela's on the way home tomorrow and get me a couple. I love the one I have now, can't beat it for the price!
  12. Are you talking the 07 models or 08? I bought one of these last winter on clearance (07 model) and I absolutely LOVE the thing. It is the tightest and smoothest spinning reel I have ever used.
  13. LOL...Thats what I was thinking, thats a serious poke in the eye!!
  14. Mono for me, usually 10lb sometimes 14lb.
  15. Doesn't get any more obvious than this.
  16. I get a little bit on most throws with mine, doesn't bother me as it seems to play out by the end of the cast. In cases where it doesn't, a little bit of rod sweep clears it out before I began to reel.
  17. This is weird, because I've been thinking how to answer this for several days now. I feel that were I able to provide a single lure as the answer to this question it would point out to ME that I am not or have not been versatile enough. I do not have a single lure that has brought me "best luck over ALL other tackle". I'm not saying anyone who has answered this is not a versatile angler, but that it is just how it makes me look at myself. Thing is, I want to say T-rig worm. But.... when I really think about it, I just can't make that commitment when I consider several others.
  18. I think 25 yds is a respectable toss for a 1/2 oz spinnerbait. Could maybe go further but 75' isn't bad. Spinnerbaits are certainly not the most aerodynamic lures to throw, especially with big blades flapping around. You'll get a little more distance as you get better aquainted with your new reel.
  19. Yep, can't say he didn't try. If it can't be done with a Revo, it ain't gonna be done at all. I've been a Shimano guy for many years myself but I sure do like the Revo's now too.
  20. Hey there Mr Significant..... I didn't give it to him. Glenn did.
  21. I concur with all these guys opinions. Spend less on the reel and more on the rod. It sounds like you have $250 to work with, maybe less. Micro is right about the SC, it's a decent reel, very comfy in the hand, smooth casting and retrieve. I also have 2 of them and really like them. Unlike some others, I feel the Revo magnetic brakes are easily noticeable with small changes.....and very effective. Micro, which guides are used on the HMG's??
  22. Give the guy a break. The STX was a gift and he's doing his best not seem ungrateful about it. If he had won it in a raffle he'd probably have sold it unused but his situation is a bit more tense than that. At least he has some morals in the dept of received gifts and has fished with it whether he actually likes it or not.
  23. Exactly what I would have said. I guess if you can get a STX for $150 that's a better way to go.
