Which Line Size Should I Use?
For my spinning set up i like to fill the spool a little less than half with 10 lb mono for backing. Then i'll fill it up the rest of the way with 30lb braid. and for my leader i use 15lb floro about 4-5ft long hope this helps.

has anyone purchased the pro controll yet?
Oh man thank-you so much for telling me when they are actually coming out. I cant wait to get one I just might have to reserve one at cabelas i did see them on their website. I think it will make fishing out of my 9ft pond prowler much more enjoyable. i will actually be able to cover water instead of having to anchor down to fish a spot.

If you are looking for a little smaller i would go for lake anita, 3 mile lake or 12 mile lake you can always check out the iowa dnr website has info on most of the lakes in iowa and it is brokedown by region the site so there easy to find hope this helps.

Maiden Voyage
Hey congrats on the boat. I also have the 9 ft pond prowler and a 8 ft trailer at first i was terrible at backing up. But just practice and it will come just go really slow and make small turns with your steering wheel. that seemed to help me alot. also what else helped me was putting my tailgate down while i'm backing the boat in that made a huge difference in being able to see where the boat was and how strait i was backing. good luck to ya this season enjoy!!!

Which type of boat
I have a bass pro pond prowler it is 9 ft. and i love it but it is a little heavy to lift by yourself. in the back of a truck. I have a little trailer i haul mine on. but if you're looking for something stable in that price range i would go with the pond prowler. because you can stand in it and you can get a lot of places. other boats can't

Light weight boats that can handle the gear
I have a 9 foot pond prowler that i take everywere by myself . and it works great the boat it self i think is around 120 lbs. but it has plenty of room for all my rods and tackle i usually take between 5 to 6 rods with me. and my tackle bag and a small cooler.

First good Rod
You might want to check out bass pro shops if there is a store in your area or the website. Their rods are pretty good for the i have 3 extremes the greenones they have a couple different extreme combos. but the green ones are rated the highest in that series at 60 million modolous. and the rods are only 60 bucks baitcast combos at 120.00 dollars. I really like them a lot nice and light and sensitve.
