  1. maybe i should have stated that i heardthey were a POS. and maybe i also should have stated that i wasnt planning on buying a premier, i just wanted to know how they were. i was pretty set on buying the team allstar, but i think i might save my money over the winter (wont be getting much fishing in from here on out) and buy an avid. how much are the new avids gonna cost?
  2. man what a shame. i'd say about 8lbs. i was at a private farm pond and i saw a bass about 13" a foot or so away from the waters edge. it was really hard and fully in tact. i wondered how it got there? cuz im pretty much the only person that fishes there, and anyone else that fishes there wouldnt be that irresponsible. how do fish "naturally" get on the bank?
  3. i got a free tacklebag from field and stream. well it had no boxes in it, so i just kept all my plastics in their original ziplocks, and just dumped em all in the tacklebag. never mix any baits. bad things happen.
  4. i know the triumph is a POS, but what about the premier? Dicks got a new shipment and i was chckin them out briefly yesterday. how are they?
  5. my vote goes to the rapala DT4 DT6 and DT10. DT series is great, a crank for just about every application. as for color cant go wrong with silver, or shad.. i really like sure-set version in pearl grey shiner.
  6. is photocromic mean that they change when they get in more sunlight? cuz if so my perscription glasses are that (i call em transitions) and they are pretty tight. they definitley do adjust to changing light. like when im fishing, the shade from my hat will cause the top half of the glasses to be lighter than the bottom. and the pretty much keep it at a constant brightness when outside.
  7. i went to BPS to buy a king shad and they didn have any so i bought a live pointer instead. never fished it and sold it for 15 bucks.
  8. does it come with boxes in it? cuz if i get the all star rod which theres a possiblity, i'd probably get the bag too.
  9. i dont have and insane amount of cranks, so i can remember what they all are, and if i cant remember, i can usually tell by looking at the bill. but writing on the bill sounds like a good idea.
  10. i love the jointed shad rap. shad is the best color.
  11. if i were you i'd go with the 200D. its got the best features. its got all the goodies EXCEPT the oversized handles. i didnt want huge handles cuz i thought theyd get in the way, so the 200D would be perfect...well it was i love my 200D.
  12. you wanted slow right? does 3.8:1 fit the bill? slowest reel could find. also about the ugliest reel too! looks so retro. they are a hundred bucks. Daiwa Procaster Tournament PT33C: http://daiwa.com/Reel/detail.aspx?ID=21 you can go here to buy one: http://www.fish307.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=5828&MMP=1012502606
  13. that really sucks. im glad i havent broken a rod...wait yes i have. i broke my ultra lite in the cargo box of my buddies fourwheeler. he had alot of stuff in there and it was silly to put my rod in there but i did and since its a ruff ride stuff jumps around in there and something landed on it and broke about 4" off the tip of it. i was luck it was only that much. i bought the rod specifically for putting in the fourwheeler because it was 2piece and my other one wasnt. it was a 12 dollar rod so i really didnt care. i just cut it off to the next guide and sanded it smooth. i still use it. thankfully i still have another ultralite rod besides that.
  14. one gallon of water is equivalent to 8lbs (not including container) so that might help a little with the lower weights. and then you go do a half gallon of water which would be 4lbs and a quarter gallon of water which would be 2 pounds and if you wanted to you could weigh an eighth gallon of water which should weigh 1 pound. those weights are all assuming you accuratley mesuer out 1/2 and 1/4 etc... gallons.
  15. spots do have more distinct patterns but some largemouths have some distinct patterns too...so dont go by that. spots jaws extend to but not past the pupil of the eye, and largemouts jaws extend past the entire eye. also i have heard, dont know if its true cuz i've never caught a spot, but i've heard that spots have a rough patch on their tounges, and i know largemouths dont.
  16. or you could invest in a fish lipper. (with or without scale) the ones with scales (the nice ones at least...called boga grips) are very expensive, but berkley and bass pro have one out that doesnt have a scale, just grabs the fish for you, for around 15 bucks. heres the BPS version: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=93414&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults heres a berkley one with a scale: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_50327_100011005_100000000_100011000_100-11-5 and heres about the nicest you will find. people say they give dead on measurements: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=20679&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults
  17. i share the same views as btlva on this one. i think its no more unethical to keep a bass than it is to keep an aquarium fish. but i can see how it could get pretty expensive though....
  18. just went on tackle tour and those are the hooks that they reccomend.
  19. not sure if it was covered in that big article cuz i didnt take the time to read it, but you might also want to try those ewg hooks with the weight molded on the bend. that will definitley keep them upright.
  20. what me is that i cant twitch it downward. i fish from a v-hull jonboat so the hull that i stand on is below water level a little and the high walls prevent me from jerking down. or i will fish from the shore and that can be hard to twitch downward too. how can i walk without twitching downward? hope i didnt just thread jack :-[
  21. like frogtog said easy come easy go. just remember what you were doing and keep doing that. same goes for if you land it. whenver you get a hit, remember how you got it and keep doing that. sometimes, if you lose the fish quick into the battle you can cast to the same spot and it will still be there and usually immdiatley hit your lure. the other day i scared a tiny bass out of the shallows so i casted to the direction it went and sure enough i got hit i was using an UL rod so i couldnt set the hook. i repeated this 4 more times before the fish wouldnt bite it anymore.
  22. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh talk that talk dssavedra.......... haha youre pretty gangster but seriously! thats what i was doing! i could feel the weeds hitting the lure thru my braided line its real sensitive...it rocks...dont make fun of me :'( haha j/k ;D but yeah thats good advice i'll do that next time. but half the time he wont want to change lures or something like that or he wont put on what i have when im catching bass. he's kinda hardheaded when it comes to that like sometimes i will be a crankbait day and i'll tell him but he'll go fishing a big ole 7" yum dinger on the botom. but it usually ends up him catching less but him getting the bigger one.
  23. way to go! thats a beaut! but if you caught in that pond why did you take the pic all the way over there?
  24. ok thanks. ive never scrolled farther than freshwater rods on that page lol!
  25. yea i pretty much figured it wouldnt be best for cranks. i do OK w/ cranks on my current M/F but like micropterus said, ya gotta be real gentle.
