  1. I got mine on sale, at a local store, last year, for $22.
  2. Are you saying you don't want to order through Daiwa, or do you want an after market upgrade? Your Zillions should have a swept handle on them. I think I'm confused. :-? I have 1 Sol, and 2 Fuego's. I know I can take the drag adjuster off and bend the tabs to get a TD-Z handle to work on the Sol, but I'm not sure on the Fuego's. I might not be able to bend them and have to order replacement drag adjusters for the swept handles. I don't really want to spend $115 per reel for I'ZE handles, just to have swept handles. Even though you do get BB knobs, I'm just not sure it's worth it. Oh, and yes, I was hoping to find a smaller store that sells the parts, instead of having to go through Daiwa. If that's what I have to do, then I will, but I was hoping to find a store of some sort that will sell the parts.
  3. You are correct, and they are still there, but not on the main reel page like the Sol was.
  4. I already bought all of them I wanted. I just thought it was strange they didn't have them online, and S W was discounting them while no one else is. Odd they come out with matching spinning reels, but the casting reels seem to be fading away.
  5. ;D That very well could be their way of thinking. The only problem is, one of the reels is so new, I haven't even opened the box yet, the other was taken out and mounted on the rod, and the third has been used 3 times. I'm looking to swap out the factory handles with swept ones. I would think that there would be decent money in offering replacement handles for upgrading.
  6. I have learned a lot in the past year and a half about buying fishing tackle. I thought I would share some of my experiences. 1) Takes money to save money...sometimes. I bought 3 Loomis rods at once. The store gave me a real nice discount for buying so much at once. Buying rods and reels at the same time will sometimes yield nice deals to. 2) Don't settle for less than what you really want, unless you absolutly have no choice. Going to a temp service or working the local fast food place for a few weeks will give you the extra $$$ you need. The few hours spent making the extra money will pay off once you hit the lake with the rod and reel you really wanted. 3) Shop, shop, shop. If you don't know how, have your wife or girlfriend help you. I bet it will make her day. Don't get stuck buying at one store, and look often at all the stores. You never know when that special deal may show up, and how long they will have what you want before it's sold out. Odds are, if you want it, so do a lot of other people. 4) Store vs. Store. If you prefer certain stores more than others, but the other store has the deal, contact one of the prefered stores and try to get them to match it. It's worked for me, it'll work for you too. Stores are in the business to sell. If it takes a couple dollars to move something, odd's are they will do it. 5) Inform yourself. Just like getting a car repaired, or getting work done on your house, if you know what's going on, you'll get treated better. Some stores treat everyone well, but some stores like to push their opinions on you. Know what you want, buy what you want. 6) Patience. Spring deals are coming, don't impulse buy just becouse you think you need it now. Unless you don't care about the price. I see some are trying to buy Shimano reels now to take advantage of the rebate. It just might pay off to wait for them to go on sale, then buy with the sale price plus the rebate. Then again, the one you want might be all sold out by then. It can be a double edged sword. Refer to #3 for help on that. Anything I missed????
  7. All I want to do is buy a replacement handle for a Daiwa TD-Zillion, but alas, search after search has yielded NOTHING! I've tried a few bait stores with no luck. The closest factory repair center is 125 miles away. I really don't care to do phone or E-mail tag with Daiwa, what are the options for finding replacement parts???
  8. I'm sure they have them in the stores, I think I might have even looked at them awhile back, but they are not online, and I have not gotten a catalog to look at either. When I was looking at getting either the Fuego or Sol as my first higher end baitcaster, they didn't have the Fuego online. I wanted to know if the deal S W was having on them was a Daiwa deal, or store deal. No place had them marked down much besides S W. Right after I bought my Sol, Cabela's put the Sol on sale online, but the Fuego was still not to be found online. Now neither of them are online. I have found in the past year and a half or so, Cabela's runs a lot of online sales that are not found in the stores. If you have the salesperson look it up online while your in the store, they will honor that price at the store though. I think Cabela's is really trying to push their online sales, like BPS seems to do.
  9. I can't remember ever seeing the Fuego online, but they did have the Sol. The Sol went on sale to $199 for a little while not too long ago, now it's not online either.
  10. I've seen more than once where someone has stated that the lower priced St Croix's are not a good "value". In that price range, you could look at the Cabela's Fish eagle II rods, BPS's rods, Shimano, ect... Select Fenwick HMX's are on sale at Cabela's. Another $20 will get you a Team Allstar or Cabela's Fish eagle HML which have select rods on special too.
  11. I originally bought it to spool spinning reels. It works the same for spinning and baitcasting. I have only spooled up one baitcaster with it. You still have slight memory issues with high memory line like Trilene XT, but a few casts later, or troll it behind the boat, or lay it out on a lawn and it's gone. It's not line twist, it's the memory from being on a large spool, then going to a small spool. No matter how you spool line with memory, your going to have at least a little issue with it the first time out. It's spools braid, Trilene XL, and standard Stren just fine.
  12. I don't have the Cabela's one so I can only guess. I have noticed that BPS and Cabela's don't alway's stock the same items. Cabela's never offered the Fuego, but did offer the Sol. BPS offers both. I still have not seen Loomis Crankbait rods on the Cabela's site. For some reason, I thought they were on their site awhile back though.
  13. I really like mine. Does a great job IMO. You can adjust tension and spool as slow or fast as your hand can move the crank. I prefer a little on the slower side with a fair amount of tension. Make sure the spool is set up so the line is coming off the top of the spool, and everything comes out just fine. I have yet to use the line stripper that comes with it though, I don't know how that works. Keep in mind though, it's just a $25ish product, don't expect it to be storng as an ox and smooth as silk, but, IMO, it does work well for the price.
  14. I'm pretty sure this is the manufacturing facility that made Stren line when DuPont/Remmington owned Stren. If you liked Stren in years past, this would be a brand of line to try. I know I'll be picking up a spool of mono.
  15. The only 2 must use rules I have are, Braid for trolling, and mono for bobber fishing.
  16. Wow, you make things complicated. ;D
  17. That's how I got every one of my Loomis rods. They were marked down, one way or another.
  18. I'm not a big fan of PP, I've had issues with it that makes it not so appealing to me. Stren superbraid is a great casting braid, but it does tend to be a little rough (makes noise) going through guides. I've heard a lot of good things about Suffix, and that is the braid I am try this year, along with Yo-Zuri hybrid and hybrid ultra soft (none of them will be competing for the same application(s)).
  19. Go to fishing articles (on this site), then click on fishing techniques, there are a two different articles on flipping.
  20. I have not used the Asaro yet, it is lighter, it has less expensive components from the BB's to the handle to the spool. I would still at this point stay with the PRESIDENT. THEY HAVE NEVER DISAPOINTED ME or many of my friends The President has 9 bearings, some of them double shielded, the Asaro has 8...all shielded. The spools are the same, and, I heard the President no longer has the rosewood knob, so the handles are the same. I guess, if the double shielded bearings ar important, than maybe it's worth the $10.
  21. I would look at the new Pflueger Asaro. It's lighter, cheaper, and has the same basic components as the President.
  22. Spiderwire stealth is real strong, higher quality braid, but....it's not round. It tends to wedge itself together as it spools up. Not a great casting line, but works well for trolling and jigging. I do use it, but not for casting, anymore.
  23. All my jig and worm fishing is done with a spool full of 10lb braid, with a length of carbon pro floro leader tied on. I'm going to be doing a little testing this year with a couple different lines, but that will still be my main set up for jigs and worms unless I find something better.
  24. I meant in the store. I was at the closest Cabela's a week before Christmas and there was not a spool of Ultra soft to be found...I looked everywhere. Maybe it will return to the stores in a month or two when they start gearing up for summer fishing.
