Lake Wylie, SC
I fish the lakes just up from you most of the time. However, I have fished wylie with a few friends. Most of the luck i have had is way back in the creeks of wylie. Its a great lake for any crawfish imitation in the summer because the bass go way back in the coves looking for this tasty meal. As far as spring goes, I haven't fished wylie in the spring, but if its anything like Norman and Mountain Island, I would look around the the creek channels for deeper bass beginning to move shallow. As far as baits for this area, I LOVE tubes, lipless cranks are great for schooling bass. btw wylie can get rather muddy so bright colors and sounds may be needed to get some of the bass to bight. good luck to ya.

Broken Petal On Minn Kota trolling motor
The exact same thing happened to my foot controlled motor. I fixed it for 15 bucks. I am assuming yours is controlled by a cable. But what I did was opened up the ''head" of the trolling motor. There was a circular gear that was turned by a sliding straight gear. The cable had come disconnected from it. I would just open it up and see if that is the problem. if not jsut leave it alone. Unless you are really good at fixing stuff. But yeah just check all the cable connections and your gears. GOOD LUCK

water temp question?
Here in NC we are just hitting the very tip of the prespawn. Fish are starting to school a little in the northern coves of the lake. I would look for large 10 foot (+or -) flats and coves in the northern part of the lake that are near a deeper part of the lake. (creek channel and river channel.) I have been catching lots of bass on slow big swimbaits on the flats, and lots of cove bass oncranks.) Look for anytype of seabird (seagulls for example) if they are diving head over there and fish anytype of natural baitfish imitation and see what you get. GOOD LUCK.

What to do with "old" tackle?
I melt them and pour them into molds of lures that i want! saves money and i dont have to keep buying my favorite lures.

Another boat...
^^^^^ agreed anyone can make a motor look new and shiny. Its a whole different thing to keep a motor running like new. Get it checked out. If it is all looking in good shape, then it looks like a good deal. I know too many people who bought a "perfect" motor, and had it choke on them within a month of buying it. Therefore, take the safe road and get it checked out good luck,

Most Memorable Fights (with a fish)
sorry i just realize i put 150. it was 50 lbs sry about the on. 150 would be huge for a sailfish probably a record

Most Memorable Fights (with a fish)
caught a 150 lb sailfish on my friends deep sea fishing boat. There is nothing more exciting than seeing a fish that big (though not big for a sail) jump 5-6 feet out of the water. All my movements were by instinct because I was so awestruck.

NC / SC Lakes
if fish upper mountain island. People dont seem to like it, but nobody knows how to fish it right. I got a jon with a 25 merc and I dont have any trouble with winds, big boats etc. Its a small lake but big enough to hold some lunker cats, and a lot of schooling bass. if you do go on MI I would focus on some of the small sandy coves I am catching a lot of 2-4 lb bass in the coves. I am not going to give away all my secrets but if you want some hints on how to fish it pm me. its a great little treasure of a lake and its not fished very hard.

pond fishing report
^ correct. There are thousands of big bass ponds in nc. go on google earth look for ponds find out who owns them and ask if you can fish (make sure you catch and release as a service to the owner)

boat business idea
If you like boats I would look in yellow books for boat detailing businesses. my buddy is one right now and with all the big boats around Lake Norman, NC, he gets bank. he only gets paid minimum wage but he will get 100 dollar tips or more for a 20 footer. Its a tough job but you will get strong like karate kid. WAX ON WAX OFF. ;D ;D haha but hey my friend made 4000 in a summer.

Getting Motor Ready
Yea, When I tune up my 25 merc I do the following. -flush the carb and fuel lines. -new plug and filter. -new lower unit lube. and thats about it for me. I am sure there is someone else who will have a nifty suggestion though.

My Boat
800 should be plenty of money. I am modifying my 16 ft lowe and my goal is below five hundred and thats for everything from a livewell to wood. right now I am a hundred dollars under budget. Trying to do this all on a 16 yr olds budget can be pretty tough. Good luck on your mods. As far as the patching and stuff goes try to add some pictures so we can all see whats going on. Good luck man.

Phoenix boats
My buddy has one and I think its like a cadillac of bass boats. His is a couple years old and absolutely nothing is wrong with it. It looks like he bought it yesterday.
-
livewell...
Kind of. There are kits for it at certain outdoor places. however, you need a 12 V battery typically they are simply a bilge pump with certain attachements. I think bait saver is one brand that uses just AA batteries. I would try that out if you dont mind bucketing. It really doesn't take too much to keep bass alive if you aerate the water and keep it cool. It only gets hard when you have high 90+ weather.

Take a big sniff... can you smell it?
68 here in Carolina. Weird because it snowed just this week. Time to get the boat floating and reels oiled. Im READY FOR PRESPAWN.

Re: color fish finder under $100 ???
I can almost guarantee that you wont find a new color fish finder for under 100 but craigslist might have one. I personally dont think color matters too much. A good grayline fish finder will do the same job as a color one. plus you can get one with a lot more features for less.

Need Help. Many Questions
Take your time. You don't want to rush into buying a boat and find out 2 months later you got ripped off. Plus waiting will offer more oppurtunities to find your best offer. I waited a couple months to buy my boat and ended up getting a ten year old 16 footer with a 25 merc for around 1500. so basically dont go rushing into a deal just because you have spawn fever. you will probably see a lot of cheaper boats with the economy the way it is. 1500 is the new 2500 if you know what i mean. ;D GOOD LUCK

Low End Boat???
theres a 14 footer with a 25 johnson on charlotte craigslist to day for 750 looks like a pretty good deal
-
Low End Boat???
I live in huntersville and i got my boat off craigslist for a 1000 bucks. came with 25 hp and its 16 ft. but I see lots of boats with a 10 hp and around 14 ft for 800 dollars all the time. If I were you though I would ask around. alot of times neighbors have boats and are willing to sell for like 6 to 7 hundred bucks. they just dont want the hassle of selling a boat. so ask around. I got mine from just down my road.

Do You Eat Bass?
I dont keep bass most of the time. mainly because i hate fileting. When i do keep fish i will state that before i go out and set aside time to filet. I have kept a few lmb but most of the time release them. Most catfish over 2-3 lbs i will keep. crappie +1lb. and any trout 1-4 lbs I will keep. I think trout is the best tasting freshwater fish. :)

strangest things caught?
went to the beach this summer and caught a 3 foot eel, a skate, and I was fishing on a dock and I look down and me and my buddy saw two manatee swim underneath the dock. needless to say, we pulled in our lines pretty quickly. ;D ;D
