  1. I appreciate the suggestions on alternative development ideas but I really wanna do this in C++. To be honest I have no intention of releasing (or even using it myself), it just seemed like a feasible idea I could apply towards my programming lessons. I just wanted to give myself a challenge I spose. I get bored here at college ;D I double checked my C++ book and it said for some reason the switch function can only be used with an integer or char variable. I think I might just go with a big if/else if statement. I'm pretty much with you CFFF. During the last lab our professor actually passed out the object/header files and we just had to complete them then integrate them into our main.cpp file. I found it alot more frustrating to start from scratch this time around. I had to ask myself over and over last night "So...what am I going to do next?" ;D That's ok, I have no intention of doing much programming after I graduate, I'd much rather go into system administration or security. Thanks guys! 8-)
  2. I'm pretty sure someone here can help me, I remember several guys in a thread claiming they had careers in IT/Computer science so hopefully someone can help a brotha out 8-) I'm in my first semester of C++ programming and only have a little programming experience from before (a semester in VB6, and some very simple tooling around with C). I got a crazy idea the other day to make a program that would calculate your score for the State vs. State competition we're having. It's a pretty simple calculation so a program doing this is kinda unnecessary but I thought it'd be a fun project and give me something to do at night this week while the weather is crappy. Basically it prompts the user for a weight, then sets that weight to a object. Then it prompts the user for a state, then sets the state to that object. Now here is where it's getting hairy. I was going to put a switch statement in the getState function. The switch would basically take the state we've set and then set the record from that state into a private variable in the object (for use in processing at a later point). The problem I've run in to is that it refuses to use a string variable in a switch statement. Is there a way to make a string variable work in a switch statement? Option B would be to use an enumerated data type, but that would be harder to implement case insensitivity (i.e. if the user is trying to input Alabama, they may put in AL, al, Al, or aL; you know where I'm getting at). So. any ideas? If you want, I can provide the source files, just ask!
  3. I've never tried it but I'm tempted. It's one of those things I don't actually wanna do, but I wanna be able to tell everyone I've done it ;D My biggest thing is I fear snakes so I don't know if I could ever cowboy up and try it.
  4. 8-) This is why we call it fishin' and not catchin' ;D I'm there no matter what.
  5. Seriously? Well I guess it's about 70 up here in Wichita, but it's blowing like 20-25mph winds. : Weather.com shows 71 deg. in Pittsburg and shows rain/wet snow tomorrow night. Kansas...man I'll never understand it.
  6. Good tip, I've never heard of that before.
  7. ;D I'll keep that in mind! Bachelor for life! 8-)
  8. Putting me and fatmanslim on it guarantees it to be a party barge. ;D Hope you get to feelin better, hoss! I had some head cold crap a few weeks ago that left me with a fever that I thought would put me in the hospital. Now I'm gettin pumped, only a week away! Fish on! 8-)
  9. People keep comparing it to licorice. Are we talking like a jagermeister taste? Most people I've talked to said it tastes crummy and the results aren't worth the trouble. Of course these folks were hard to impress.
  10. Nah she's pretty good about it. That's the one good thing about being 170 miles from her for college, she gets excited when I just come home to see her, that's a decent substitution for a nice dinner and gifts ;D. (really I'm spending about as much time hammering the ponds around here as I am with her 8-)) I'm sure when my birthday rolls around she'll pull a "Well I can't spend much on you, I had to reallocate all of my money to my underwater basketweaving tournament next month,"

    My prayers are with everyone!
  12. True love is when you tell your significant other "Look, I'm not spending much on you for your birthday because I need to allocate my funds towards my BFL tourney next month," and she replies with "That's fine, have fun!" Oh yes. A lucky man I am indeed.
  13. I thought it was weird. This FLW fantasy fishing is kinda stupid. They're trying to squeeze alot of money out of the players for that players advantage crap. Naturally, hulks "tips" he emailed us involved alot of Players "advantage" features. Pfft. I can find all that info through google. ;D
  14. Did we ever decide on a launch time? Oh BTW, next Sat is on the 10-day forecast now. Looks to be overcast with a high of 53 degrees. 20% chance of rain :-/ We'll see how it pans out, it looks like it's gonna be fairly warm next week.
  15. Yup, ring fry and the old guys ;D can goto JBs. We can either goto bootleggers and flirt with high school girls (that should be right up your alley! ) or goto Yummy buffet and stuff our faces ;D
  16. $3.15 last night just up the road. Funny thing is if I dip about 15 minutes east into Asbury, MO I can usually get it $.15-$.20 cheaper.
  17. Hey! Everytime I drive by the "Big Hill" sign on hwy 400 I honk, those bass know I'm coming. ;D
  18. Awesome! I've never seen that map before, that'll be useful.
  19. I'm staying in Pittsburg for school through this semester ;D Good lord the pit fishing is fun, but if I was gonna drive this far I'd just stop at Big Hill
  20. Despite the slow (or non-existant in my case) bite, I've been venturing to the strip pits to at least throw a cast whenever I get the chance. Thank the lord they reopen to vehicle traffic this weekend. 8-)
  21. I don't, but I think I'll start this year...
  22. Doubtful......well....I guess there's a first for everything... ;D Game on! Weather appears to be fluctuating still. Looks like they put rain/snow in the forecast for next Thurs so I'll guess we'll see what happens. :-/
  23. Ohhhhh. That's a mighty bold choice of words ;D
