Always wondered. Let's say you are fishing and for some reason, a possible tragedy strikes. You either are stuck on a limb in the boat sticking out of the water, or in a spot the fish might get hung while reeling in at the pond shore, etc., and then you set the hook on a HUGE bass. Would you swim in and get the fish "thumb in mouth" or not?

If I reel it in and I see that it is a "mule" (to put it in the words of Bill Dance) then the phone comes out of the pocket, and in I go. Or as mentioned if it is a lure I love, then I'm in. It's only water and plus it makes for a good story too. LOL

Already done it in a pond.

When tournament fishing you can't leave the boat other than in an emergency or to go to the bathroom so I have never had to do this in a river or lake.

I had that happen probably about 6 years ago. I had huge bass pinned in a big tree branch. I would guess the fish to be between 13-15lbs and I could see it clearly. It was about 8ft deep and I had my buddy pull on the branch as hard as he could wich tilted the boat a little and I stucck my arm in the water with my net all the way up to my neck and I could just touch the bass but couldnt get the net under her. I actualy considerd jumping in and getting her but she kept shaking her head and eventualy got away leaving me snagged. At the time I think that would have been my PB. IF THIS EVER HAPPENES TO YOU, you have to make up your mind fast and just jump in. If you wait like I did, chances are the fish will get away.

If its In a tournament and money is on the line you can can bet your bottom im going in!!!! I do have a funny story about going in after things. Me and my partner were fishing a tournament a few years ago and we knew we had a good shot at winning with our pattern. Well our pattern was crashing DD22's and Hot Lips into deep brush piles and stump fields and thats all they would hit! they wouldn't touch a jig or any soft plastics. Well about halfway through the day we had already lost about 12-15 cranks a piece and my partner only had 2 or 3 left. Well the next one he hung up he said a few choice words and proceeded to strip down to his underwear.. I troll over to were he was hung up and he grabs some pliers then grabs his line and swims down 20ft to get his DD22 back out of a brush pile lol. Funny part is he came back up with two haha

No.........never. I have a phobia about putting my feet on the bottom of a natural body of water. I won't even go in the ocean at the beach.

I'm 100% Cajun so you'd have a hard time keeping out of the water ;)

I had a fish wrap me around some standing timber in about 20 feet of water. It was the only pencil popper I had left in the boat, so I went down after it. I think being 18 had something to do with the decision.

I use braided line.... So I'd just pull the fish "and the tree" in :)

I dove in the Everglades to get my phone. After paying $100 for another one, I should have let the thing sink and reported it stolen to get a new one free. FML.
