was at my local lake last week.it is a tough lake to fish but all last week the bass were boiling on shad all day long along the shoreline.it was torture cause no one was getting any hits.we tried every shad type lure we had(spinners,minnows,traps,and cranks)just curious what works for users here when bass are busting like that?

There a lot that will probably work pretty good, but the ones I reach for first in that situation are jerkbaits and Super Flukes.

Traps, Spooks, poppers, Super Flukes, Flukes, cranks, weightless worms and grubs.

I would have thrown a Sammy.

Hi, from my experience you can use the Cavitron buzzbait ghost minnow, or the storm kickin minnow gizzard shad, or the lucky craft pointer 78sp ghost minnow. Good luck

I regard whitewater and boils as a swimbait call.

But in heavily weeded water, the Johnson spoon & trailer can go where buzzbaits fear to tread.

If they were busting that good, they should have hit anything thrown in that area. When they are in frenzy mode you can catch them with a bent beer tab. I would question if it was truly bass hitting shad. If so, a topwater, fluke or wake bait in shad color should be the ticket. It is also important to match the size of your bait to the shad in the area. Good Luck.

i would agree on the flukes.  more than likely when shad are boiling like that the bass are underneath them coming up and chasing them to the top, once i figured this out i threw a swimbait and let it sink through the shad school before reeling it in and swam it back to the surface as if it were escaping....sure enough it worked, unless water is stained. also throwing a wakebait is proper as well, especailly if u can cast next to where u see them hittin the surface

I'd throw a buzzbait or a lipless crankbait

Swimbaits, and chatter baits...yes, they catch fish..

That's not to say other baits won't work..

My best luck has come when throwing Rebel Pop-R's and Zoom Super Flukes into the boils.

A three inch grub on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz. slider jig is a favorite of mine. A roadrunner jig in the above weights is an old stand-by. White or something like it, or chartreuse are the colors I like.

This happens on my local lake alot... the fish will boil but wont break the surface of the water. I usually fish something like a superfluke or any kind of soft jerkbait but I let it fall a bit deeper under the water about a 8 inches or so and pop it to the top and let it fall to about 8 inches and repeat. I also wake a spinnerbait that has larger blades usually gold or copper blades work best... I dont know why.  goodluck

I have tournament fished for two decades and sometimes you just can't get them to hit anything(or at least I can't). The two lures that have worked the best for me are lipless crankbaits and silver buddy's, but a swimbait should work but I don't normally carry one rigged. Vary your retrieves to see what will work but usually for me a yo-yo type works best or most often. Nearly all of the lures mentioned in previous post will work sometimes.

The advice I would offer is to turn off your sonar and stay off the trolling motor as much as possible. This will allow you to get closer to the fish without spooking them(sometimes). If you are catching white bass(stripers) try fishing under them, sometimes largemouths will school with and under the white bass. Good luck..........Al

My go to bait on boiling or busting bass is a Rapala Husky Jerk in Tennessee shad.

flukes , slug-go's , and '' walking-the-dog'' type lures fished fast and erratic !!!! 

I have had good luck with poppers and in-line buzz baits, but in-line buzz baits are getting hard to find. >

Try fast moving baits like, swimbaits, yum, castic, just a few.They might be getting a good look at your baits.
