Spent the last two days on post invasive weed poisoned,Webster lake with Gramma. So what happens when they kill all the invasive weeds, 6 weeks after the spawn is over? Schools of fry have nowhere to hide. Been catching 14" 2 lb and 16" 3 lb bass by the arm full. Unfortunately there won't be many yearlings next year. Still trying to figure out why they just don't let the weeds grow until they get so thick that they kill themselves off. No surprise, they're hitting 3" sluggos that look just like fry.

Congratulations - good looking fish

Got out to Whitman's Pond after work yesterday. Spent two and a half hours working a different part of the pond (where another guy launching said he had luck) in attempt to catch a fish there because I've been pretty well shut out the last few times there. A black/purple t-rigged U-tail, green/white hula popper, chartreuse chatter bait, and yellow perch Rapala failed to produce anything. The closest I got were little fish nibbling at the purple texas rig a few times.

A couple weeks prior I fished a Luddam's Ford in Hanover with a friend, where again, I was shut out without so much as a bite. My fishing partner and two other guys we didn't know in a canoe also struck out.

I've caught only one bass this year, and not much else in other species either. I see many of your posts with good sized bass, and Fishing Rhino's post reporting catching 37 fish in one outing. I don't think I've caught 37 bass in my life.

I was going to head out fishing again this morning, but based on my luck over the last year or so, I really don't want to.

Best of luck to you guys here in MA. I started out three or for years ago enjoying fishing and looking forward to catching bigger bass, but now it's just frustrating for me. It's time take a break.

Hey man don't quit this year hasn't been that good for me either. It might be that we fish ponds and the winter was terrible. Last year by this time I'd caught over 200 fish this year I might have caught 20. I do see one thing that could help. Use a senko almost every time I've gone I've been throwing everything I got and when I'm about to be skunked the senko saves the day. And I'm telling you go to that pond I told you about Ellis I have yet to go there and not catch a fish. No big ones yet but there in there. Anyway I feel your pain this year has been a lot worse for me too.

Don't give up brotha. This year for me has been also junk. With life and other things happening I haven't been able to go nearly as much. If I am lucky I go once every two weeks. For me on the season I got those two bass and one down in Florida.. Take a break but don't give up.. Try night fishing if u can.. Work the shore lines with some cheap frogs u guaranteed to get some blowups.

I agree most places that I had good luck on last year have been a bust .. Spent 5hrs out on nutting in billerica yesterday got 1 small LM and 3 bites all day .....

Dogbone...Dogbone...Dogbone...you are very close. When all else fails, pick one thing and stick with it. Leave everything home but your worm rod and enough tackle for a T rig...downsize to 4" worms. watermelon red flake or black. Maybe even Powerbait or some other flavor. Go throw it everywhere but retrieve it s-l-o-w-l-y. No fish are ever caught from your living room.

Yep, when the bite is tough, I downsize as well. We'll be in the dog daze of fishing soon if not already, so smaller tends to be better.

 

When the bite gets really bad, I love to target bluegills. Sure beats a day at work.

 

A dead sticked 4" Senko type bait is a really good technique in times like these. It's painful as all heck, but your patience will be rewarded.

Been real busy the last few months, hardly had any time to fish. Finally got the kayak out today, caught a small bass some perch and a nice sunburn on my legs. Don't forget sunscreen

After work, I'm heading out to Houghton's Pond for the first time--will report back. 

 

Any spots to try there? I couldn't find a depth map online.

There's an area behind the snack shack that was over managed for a few years and had virtually no weeds in the area. I was slinging a rippin rap not log ago and found that the area has a nice weed growth this year. I'll be hitting that spot a few times this year. It was a great producing spot for years and then 5 or so years ago the pattern died.

Yes, Houghton's. And that's exactly where I was fishing.

Yeah I know, I'm retired and have a boat but...the fishing has been pretty simple lately. Go to the lake(any time) throw stuff that bounces off the bottom on windy slopes,and get a limit in 3-4 hours, then go home. Happens every time. Rhino catches even more...but he goes earlier and stays longer. Wife only likes to go for a few hours...but...she catches just as many fish, doing the same thing only with smaller stuff. It's not hard, just go do it.

The family and I drove to one of our time-share resorts in Gordonsville, VA for a long weekend.  There's a lake on the property so I brought a kayak and some gear on the chance I'd get to fish somewhere outside Eastern MA.  I managed to get out at dawn Sunday and caught three: two little ones and one I consider big for up here, all on swimming Senkos.  I lost a good one on a bad hookset, but I'll take the three I landed.

 

A nice weekend at a great resort.  Funny how I had to drive 550+ miles to break my slump.... 

 

Now back to work....

 

                 

That's awesome dogbone. I'm glad you didn't quit. I had the best day of fishing all season last Sunday. Caught three nice ones including a 4lber and a 3 1/2, 3. All good fish especially on topwater. First one clued me in on what they wanted I was buzzing a rage cutr worm and the 4lber hit wrapped me up in the weeds but I managed to land it. 15lb test braid is stronger than you think. Then got one buzzing a rage craw cuz that was my last cutr worm. Lastly got one on a popping pad crasher. What a fun day. Don't give up on topwater during the middle of the day because I caught all of them after 11am.

Quitting? No. Taking a break, yes. No matter how poor I do up here I wasn't going to let a chance to fish down south get away from me, especially working two jobs. My free time is limited, so when something's not fun, it's not worth doing with higher priority tasks to be done. We'll see how it goes over the next few weeks. Thanks for your support.

Left my phone at work and needed to go to that big orange DIY store to get lawn fertilizer.  Both are near Blue Hills Reservoir (BHR), so with the girls at the mall and the lawn cut, I dropped by BHR around 7:45.  Heeding advice from many of you I brought little or nothing for tackle, and started throwing a 7.5" purple w/blue flake Culprit worm.  While watching the worm come back to me on the rocks I saw something I've not seen there in at least a year: a school of little bait fish (assumed baby bass?) following the worm.  

 

A few casts later I get a tug-tug, so I set the hook and landed pretty close to the biggest bass I've caught there to date.  On the next cast, tap-tug-tug, and to my surprise, another bass about the same size.  The one thing I'll contribute to tonight's success is that I was using my new JDM Shimano Chronarch CI4, tuned by Mike @ DVT, and was getting noticeably more distance with the same size bait than my other reels.  The bass bit further out than I've  reached before.

 

Maybe I brought some VA home with me.  

 

Add: my boots are 12" long.

Fished the Old Lexington Reservoir last night for a few hours and got absolutely nothing. It was dead there.

Thanks. I didn't think there was anything that big left @ BHR, but I suppose the strongest survive.

Heading to Little Pond in Plymouth after work with Fam. Hope to to catch a couple there @ dusk.
