I'd suggest you ask one of us.....

I'll second that motion, and it will cost a heck of a lot less.

As for the larger water, why?  Define larger.  Wouldn't you rather fish in a smaller body of water with plenty of action than to go for a ride on a larger body of water and catch fewer fish?

Finally got my goal bass, I’ve been hunting this fish for years. Countless hours and heart breaks.  I started out waking up at 430 am, feeling like crap, mixture of expired cheese and a couple of be

Big thanks to everyone who reached out.

All you need to do is ask.

That is some awesome stuff. Nice to see strangers helping strangers way to go

Got my first Smallies yesterday, though I wasn't home in MA.  Had to burn some expiring time-share points so I hopped up to Stoneham ME for a quick in and out.  There were a ton of waters to choose, and I picked Horseshoe Pond.  It was medium sized and away from the heavy end-of-summer traffic.  It paid off.  I had the place to myself, less a few other recreational kayakers and a Grandfather with his Grandchildren.

Caught 2 Smallies.  One on a 5" Senko and the bigger one on a jointed Yellow-Perch Rapala.  I also caught a pile of Yellow Perch, some no bigger than the Rapala or Mepps I threw.  They're a trippie little fish for sure.

I'm back in MA and decided September should be a good month to work only one job and fish some new waters in MA.

Lastly, I have to thin out the herd of rods & reels a little bit.  I'd rather sell locally if possible.  I'm selling PQs, a host of casting rods, and my 128T.  If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you a list of what I'm putting up for adoption.

Edit: Anyone, or administrators, know why my attached photos of late are sideways?  They show correctly in Finder and iPhoto.  I use a MBP running OSX 10.8.  It's only the last couple times I've attached photos to posts.  I don't update my OS or other APPS.

Wachusett is a cruel mistress, but if you put the time in its rewarding. I'll be back for sure.

What I'll remember most about that day was getting a chance to demonstrate how to remove a hook from a gut hooked fish (no treble hooks), not once, not twice, but three or four times.  It's something I learned from the forum, and it's the most valuable thing a fisherman can learn.

Here it is for all to study, and learn.

Thanks!

I'm picking up a pair of forceps before I get on the water again so I can practice the gut hook removal method above.

Packed everything up the other day and left my St Croix mojo Bass rod at the lake. Turned right around after I got home and of course someone took it :( $140 down the drain.

unbelievable. my thoughts go out to you, man. I've never lost a rod but I was with my dad when he dropped his off the side of the boat and it really killed the day.

It sucks, it was most likely leaning against a tree I was obviously coming back for it. This town (Haverhill) is such a dump.. I am fed up.

  • Super User

Sorry to hear that.  I doubt your situation is limited to Haverhill.

I think it would happen at most ramps or fishing areas.

When I got my new truck last year it came with a chrome sleeve on the tip of the exhaust pipe.  I launched my boat at the public ramp at the south end of Webster Lake and when I came back, someone had stolen it.  They had to use a wrench to get it off so it required a bit of effort, but the truck was parked with the exhaust on the side near the woods so they could do it without being obvious.

Some areas look better than others, but the "undesirables" frequent all of them at one time or another.

Br1an...Br1an...Br1an...i must say that I've lost a rig or two due to ...let's call it elderly mental overload...don't blame the community...somebody who needed it might be able to feed his family now...Just learn from past mistakes and be more careful. By the way...Rhino's chrome tip looks great on my Jeep.

  • Super User

I feel for you Br1an. Best you can do is take Grampa's advice and move on.

We just had our Jeep broken into in NH, 100 yards from the Lincoln Police station. Someone unzipped a window and took a rod and tackle bag. The bag had 2 T3 Ballistics in it. Stinks, but being angry about it stinks more, so I brush it off and keep truckin'.

Don't take bad mojo with you to the lake... Won't catch squat.

Save up some dough & get another rod when you can.

If you're in a jam for a baitcast rig, I might have something in the garage you could use until you save enough money to replace your St. Coix.

Just for the sake of nostalgia I took my canoe onto Lake Noquochoke in Dartmouth.

I grew up less than a half mile from the lake and spent a lot of time on it when I was a kid, boating, water skiing, riding a water saucer, etc.

I spent about three hours on the "lake".  Shortly after getting there I caught my first bass, about a pound and a half.  As things turned out it was also my last bass.  I usually go once a year, just for old time's sake.  Some days I've done okay, but most of the time it's casting practice.

With that in the rear view mirror it's off to where I can reasonably expect to do much better.  Meeting up with Grampa tomorrow for an excursion around Webster.  Then later in the week I'm planning to spend a day fishing from my bass boat, which has sat idle for six or seven weeks.

Some how I posted the reply twice.  Used to be able to delete a post but I can't find the delete button.  I edited the post by deleting everything but it would let me do that.  So, that's why this post.

I noticed the delete option is gone too.

Anyone use a Carolina rig around here with any success?

Looking to give it a whirl next couple times out... Which is hopefully SOON!

Haven't had much success on anything lately. The Carolina rig is never something I've put time into, let us know how it goes.
