suggestions for "walk the dog" baits....

What type: lews pencil plug

                BPS XPS walker

                LC sammy

                Zara Spook

                Rapala skitter walk

Never fished these type of baits yet. Looking for color suggestions also. I fish clear deep spring fed lakes a few merky river fed lakes, and one swift current river thats pretty murky. Thats for all comments guys.

I like to use the old school Zara Spook myself.  I usually throw the red and white one for some reason?!?  I've read that LC Sammy is easy to get to 'walk the dog'.

I use Lew's Speed Pencil-it is some blue/black back with a silver belly.  I also throw a Zara Spook Jr in Blue Shad.  I've gotten my best results on the speed pencil on around sticks ups. The only time I have thrown the spook is over submerged hydrilla in 4 ft of water 2 weeks ago.

Hands down the Sammy.  It is well worth the $15 price tag.  Ease of walking, great colors and detail, awesome hooks, the fact that you shouldn't lose them easily make them worth it.  I recommend the 100 size, it walks the best for me, and its perfect sized.  It will catch you a ton of fish.  I prefer the Chart. Shad color.  It works in pretty much any water, even murky because it rattles like crazy and makes a ton of commotion.

I really like the spook line. I don't find it hard to walk at all. I even got my buddy to walk it after a few minnutes. At first he was having troubles walking it. So I tied on a spook and showed and told him what to do. I caught on very fast.

Super spook jr.

Not on your list but should be: Reaction Innovations Vixen and Barely Legal Vixen.

Hands down the best walking baits I've used.

What type of color combinations do you think would work. Gonna pick up a sammy in that chart white colors. What about other colors, do you guy suggest natural shad patters?

I still think its more the action than the bait it self.     I'm an old zara spook kind of guy.      One of the most important subtleties of throwing a walking bait is tieing the bait on correctly.

A loop knot or flemish knot allows the bait to perform the best.     A knot that is cinched down doesn't give the bait the freedom it needs to be worked true.

Matt.

if you are just getting in to these kind of lures get a sammy they are so easy to walk it will make it easy to learn

I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST SPOOKS. UP UNTIL NOW MY 2 FAVORITE WALKIN THE DOG BAITS ARE THE SPITIN IMAGE AND RAPALA SKITTER WALK

I like Spooks but that's because they've been around and I've fished them for years.  If it ain't broke don't fix it.  However, I've bought some Sammy's this winter so there'll be some competition this year.  My favorite Spooks have white, chartreuse, or chrome bellies.  I don't think the backs are that important.

LC Gunnish 95 is the best for me hands down. I own all the other baits people have mentioned but the Gunnish just seems to work better for me.

thanks for the input guys. Ill pick up a few sammy 100's and a few zara spooks and give it a try. thanks a bunch.

Zara spook

White / green frog pattern during the day

and black at night.

Try fishing a spook at night over 20ft shoal for smallies, you relly have to feel the

bite cause when you set the hook and miss. and the trebles come sailing by your head at 100

mile an hour you wish you were inthe water

im partial to spooks myself but i did buy two BPS slim dogs last year and the bleeding tennesee shad color seemed to work as well if not better than any color spooks ive thrown, only thing is i think the hooks are a tad small after a 6lber straightened the rear hook out on me, needless to say all those hooks got an upgrade  ;D
