Are you standing there and jackn all your bass? The whole preminition is just to see if fish are there not to catch the 5lb fish holding it.

Nope. It had more to due with weather and water quality changes from one day to the next. Stuff like an influx of muddy water or a shallow bay suddenly dropping six inches due to a wind shift. Too often I stick with what worked yesterday instead of going to plan B

It would probably be a lot easier for someone else to identify my weaknesses. But I'd say fishing deep water and finding/staying on deep channels is definitely a weakness. Also, my buddy says I'm lousy with boat control. Then again, he likes to keep moving down a lake whereas I like to stop and/or anchor if I think a spot warrants it.

Need to spend more time with hard baits.

Flipping. I'm a proficient pitcher but have never been comfortable flipping. I'll go with Dink, too. I can't buy just one thing. I have to have several back-ups.

Potomac?

My biggest weakness is not finding a consistent shallow water bite. I can catch them deep but spring gives me a head ache.

Deep water without a doubt. I can find a few fish on obvious deep water spots but finding them consistently in deep water is something I just can't seem to do.

Finesse fishing eg. drop shotting. Also never caught a fish on a senko. Another weakness I think would be not going with my gut, and over thinking.. Sometimes I just need to let my brain get out of the way and just fish.

I tend to start thinking about what baits have worked on other lakes instead of thinking about what will work on the lake I am on now.

my weakness is jig fishing and suspended jerkbaits i dont spend enough time using them

Potomac?

Lake Okeechobee and the canal system of the Everglades fish differently with changes in weather. The wind creates currents, stirs up mud and piles up water on one shore. Then we have the water management folks who open gates and move water around in bulk. I've learned the hard way that you can't count on pre-fishing to lock in a spot or a pattern. I also do lots of saltwater fishing which may be similar to the Potomac. There at least you've got published tide tables to get you started.

Adjusting to the fish. I have a tough time letting go of preconcieved ideas. Essentially, I'm just as stubborn fishing as I am in everything else....who woulda thunk it?

After replying to the post about your strength that others may not have, I got to thinking about my weakness. You'd think that after 50+ years of fishing including more than a few years on the local club circut, I'd have a little trouble narrowing it down. I've got most aspects of this great sport covered, but I have one big weakness and that's my memory. If it weren't for the fact that I keep a fairly detailed fishing log, there'd be many times that I'd waste valuable fishing time.

The only way I can equate what is happening one day to an experience I've had maybe on numerous occasions is to look at that log when I get home. Then the light goes on. Believe me when I say it's frustrating, but luckily I figured it out a long time ago or I'd likely be sitting here doing needle point. Then again, is it drop two and pearl one or visa versa?

papajoe222, takes a real man to admit this

My weakness (in fishing) is just do what others tell me to do. I have to analyze it myself first.

Edit: I take this back. I actually don't think this is a weakness.

Dropshotting and shakey heads are two things I am bad at because I have not been wiling to spend the time to gain confidence in them.

In terms of other stuff...... I need to improve working through frustrating times, locating fish quicker, and having patience...... both with a technique and also with learning a body of water (i bounce around between too many places I think)

-Tackle... I have two rooms to hold everything... baits, rods, reels, bags, etc.

-Crankbaits... I am good with all other hardbaits but these.

-Flipping and pitching

-Good deals and sales

Finding the fish. Getting on patterns in one day. For high school thats sometimes all I afford to fish and it sucks one practice day. But if the fish are there i can "usually" catch them

Identifying deep water structures, boat positioning in relation to said structures, and fishing technique for these structures.

No matter what I see on the sonar, I can't help but think that I'm just tossing a lure into a big bucket of water and NO FISH are around within 10 miles.

One of my weaknesses is that I don't get out of my comfort zone enough. I am comfortable with soft plastics so I use them 85% percent of the time. I've just started seriously targeting bass in september of this year. I have caught maybe 10 bass, all on soft plastics. I always thow a spinner or crank bait a few times when I'm out, but when they don't get bit I always resort back to my soft plastics rather quickly. I think next time I go out Ill leave the soft stuff at home. Another weakness of mine is finding fish in deep water. I don't have a fish finder yet. I usually either beat the bank or fish off a jon boat w/ trolling motor at my favorite pond.I can locate the fish along the shoreline and shallow structure fairly easily using sight and sound. When I move out to the deep water where the owner says the lunkers are I always feel like I'm casting blindly into the abyss. I spend more time wondering if there are fish there than I do auctually fishing. Have any of you guys tried that hummin bird portable fishing buddy? Im thinking about getting it.

Also never caught a fish on a senko.

And you would call this a weakness ??? I'd call that an atta' boy ;) LOL Senko's are for the crowds. If your after the same fish the crowds are after, then have at it ! Not me though.

Peace,

Fish

I'm ignorant when it comes to all fishing electronics. Since I don't own a boat this never really comes into play.

I can use some work at skipping baits. This is what I'll work on in the upcoming year.

If you asked me a year ago what bass fishing presentation was my weakness I would have said Hard Jerk Baits.

In salt water I have caught countless fish of different species this way. In fresh water, not so much.

However, thanks to some advice here, I've down sized my fresh water jerk baits and have been productive since that change.

Now I don't feel like I have a weakness with any baits I regularly would use. I feel confident with any bait I pull out of my box. However, if I expand into the world of large swim baits (over 1oz) or A-Rigs I would then consider these weaknesses.

for me....it is using new baits. I find i troll the handpours and custom sites on the internet a lot. I can barely bring myself to use an unbrella rig and I have a serious problem using Senkos. Just won't do it...because everyone is. I use wacky floating worms, trick worms but never rig up a senko. :Idontknow:

Cold water, and suspending fish that are relating to bait instead of cover.

I think about everyone of these apply to me.
