Not a brand war or whats better just curious what are some improvements you would like to see on your favorite bait casters and rods!

For me I really like the concept Shimano has on their side plates. Quick one handed release of the side plate and you never have to worry about it falling into the water or bouncing off the rocks. I'm surprised more companies haven't jumped on it. The Gen 1 Abu low profile reels you could remove the side plate with one hand. Now it takes two. On my Pro Qualifier, you don't have unscrew the tension bar it's spring loaded which is nice.

Now as for the Shimano reels, the handles are kinda goddy. I like straight lines like the Abu's.

Anyone else?

I would love to see a built in line counter so we will know how many yards of line we are putting on the baitcaster to meet the reel's specifications.

 

I tried to talk my wife into getting me a professional spooler that counts the yards but after seeing that it cost over $400 she decided to get me some new underware.

Lets see....what I would want Shimano to improve.......hard question. I would like to see the colors that they have for the JDM reels or maybe some of them come to the US. Love theblack and red on the Scorpions. Im not too crazy about the big knobs on the reels. I like the ones that were on the Curado50Ebetter. Other than that, I dont have any complaints, thats why I fish them only.

Curado and Citica 50's. after fishing a Chronarch or Core 50 the 200's feel like bricks until I get used to them again.

Id like to see the dual brake system on every reel. Centrifugal brakes and magnetic

I do not know if this issue has been corrected on the Gen. 3 Revos, but the finish has always been a little less than durable. I'd also like to see the aftermarket for "Option Parts" that Daiwa has come alive for other brands. Shimano has a bit of it, but Daiwa really has that market cornered for the most part. But then again, I'm happy with my Daiwas, and the Abu's aren't half bad stock   

To come with a guarantee that allows me more time on the water................

~ An incremental click type adjustment to the cast control knob.

 

~ Though it's only rarely required,  simpler access to the brake tabs would be nice.

   Having to dis-assemble the reel on the water is just not a good plan  . . .

I am also a shimano reel guy and specifically I would like to see left hand retrieve lower gear ratios in something other than a $200 reel.

higher max drag on some reels.it seems silly to me when a reel has a max drag of ten pounds.might have to get me some revos i like the 20lbs max drag.

How about the reels being "properly" lubed vs WAY OVER lubed right out of the box. Seems a shame that to get out of the reel what it is capable of I have to send it to DVT...when I get it back it feels much smoother and casts much farther...why can't it be like that out of the box.

I would not want duel brakes on my reels. I would like to see every reel come in left hand for those that use them. I like the line counter built in idea. I would like to see bigger knobs on all reel handles.  

Its already been said, less grease and a properly tuned reel straight from the factory. I love Lews but you have to break them down when you buy them. Its a pain. Id like to see Lews reels with higher max drags like the Revos also.

I'm curious, why would any freshwater fisherman need a drag approaching 10 lbs, let alone 20+?

Set your drag properly at 25%-30% of the breaking strength of your line, but not more than 3-4 lbs.

There are several ways to measure the weight. I suggest putting 3 pounds of weight in a plastic

grocery bag and tying your line to the handles of the sack. GENTLY lift your rod tip until the drag

begins to release. Tighten the drag accordingly.

 

Now pull your line out with your hand. Over time you will get a pretty accurate feel for the setting.

Once set, I NEVER adjust anything when I have a fish on...NEVER. I fish #4 & #6 Yo-Zuri on my

spinning tackle. My two main spinning rods are 7' MF. The drag is always set at approximately

2 1/2 lbs. Both smallmouth in my avatar and the Big Bass on last year's RoadTrip were all caught

using #4 Hybrid.

 

On baitcasters I am fishing #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or 50 lb Sufix 832 for bass, 65 for striper. The drag

on my bass rods is 3 lbs regardless of which line I am using, 4 lbs on my striper rig. I'm not going

to use "never" because that came back to bite me a few years ago, so I "rarely" get broken off.

 

Sealed level wind.  Shallow spool option on "workhorse" reels like Curado and Zillion.  Ability to reengage the spool by flicking the thumbar up, like just about every Daiwa.

I'd like to see an all black reel to match the Crucial rod. Not crazy about green but the dark green is ok

My Gen 3 S feels abit more durable than my gen 2's. that has been a complaint of mine too. If your gonna drop 200 plus on a reel, one would think the finish would last longer

The guy at Pure Fishing told me the reason for the heavy grease is the majority of people buying a reel will use it 10-12 times a year, won't clean it and won't lube it.

Id like to be able to pay an extra fee to have my reel come with better bearings or just up the price a tad. I mean seriously, if Daiwa was putting boccas into almost every reel they make surely they would get a price break. Id rather spend $10 at buy time than $30 later on.

 

Id also like to see the diagram in the box from multiple angles

 

Id like the option to put a handle from one reel onto any other reel within the same manufacturer

 

Id like every spool in the same manufacturer to also be interchangeable

Sounds like you need to start fishing with Shimanos, lol.

Actually, handles from most brands interchange, except Shimano.

I would like to see more manufactures have clicking cast control knobs standard on reels over $150. Also would like to see more finesse casting reel options.
