Hey guys, I know gun control is a big topic these days, but you gotta remember there is a very strict "no politics" rule here.  Many of you are forgetting - or ignoring - this rule.

I'm sick of editing political comments - pro or con - regarding lawmakers and party lines in your state or in DC.  This is not the place for it.

So check your political views at the door, or don't post.

I've asked and warned you guys about this several times in the past few weeks, and I'm done with it.

Continued violation of this rule will result in the elimination of the gun forums altogether.

Guys I know this is an issue for some more than others after all I live in NYS. However let's keep the emotion out and the facts in. Emotionally charged posts are only going to get this Forum shut down. I for one enjoy the fact that I can come here and talk about guns and it is a fishing site.....You know what I mean........

I Like the fact we have STRICT rules on politics here. (even though I love a good debate)

as many others I am member at other boards as well. So I will tell a short story.

at another board, there was a raging debate in the gun/everything else section of the forums.

by raging I mean 10+ pages, this board has a "strict" politics rule too.......well long story, little less lengthy......every post was liberal this, right winger that. 2nd admendment here, communist there.

so I emailed the mod that was also partaking in the debate, asking about the politics rule. He responded asking "what did I find political" about the thread.

Needless to say the above reason is why BASS RESOURCE is THE BEST....we talk fishin' here, if I wanted politics I log on to facebook, HA!

BRAVO GLENN, BRAVO.

oh man.

there going to ban guns, your going to ban the gun forum.

now your going to threaten to ban the gun forum for political comments made and etc if it continues and nothing said about banning the people making those posts instead etc... i tell you then fine you want to act like that Mr Glen then take this topic the gun section and the whole forum and stick it up your bass.

Tony, that was just wrong!! Glenn spends alot of time making sure this is an enjoyable forum for all and you have the nerve to talk to him like that. That is childish.

LOL, that guy makes me look tame. :D

It's really not that difficult to make a statement for/against firearms without mentioning political figures. Really, most people can make their own judgement call where you are on the spectrum by just reading a basic post. No need to really delve into explaining why you are one end or the other, or split down the middle.

Follow the rules, forum stays. Pretty simple really.

Tony - take a deep breath and reread my post.  I didn't say you couldn't talk about the topic.  I said to leave your political viewpoints out of it.

Geeze, what a drama queen.  LOL!

It's easier to moderate 1 element in it's entirety than 100 numbskulls that can't follow the rules. It's not a hard concept.

I didn't say you couldn't talk about the topic.

I tried that twice not mentioning politics and the threads got shut down, I took it was the entire topic and don't mind. Moderation or not you know it has an easy chance of getting sour.

With that said, I lost all my guns in a boating accident. :D

Gun control is a topic that I am personally very passionate about as are most others and is neary impossible to discuss without crossing the political line. However I certainly respect Glen's right to make and enforce the rules. Gun control may be a topic that should be avoided entirely on BR.................Al

Maybe a more sensible approach is if a person is opposed to gun ownership he could just stay out of the gun forum.  I'm opposed to drinking, but when a thread comes up in the "Everything Else" forum about alcohol, I don't rant and rave about it.  Instead, I just don't open the thread.  Simple solution to a simple problem.  Unless, of course, someone is looking for a fight.....

re read your post..

Continued violation of this rule will result in the elimination of the gun forums altogether.

why take it out on everyone here or threaten to do so... ban the people violating the rules not the whole gun section.

what you said there is a low blow and considering the topic you chose its just down right nasty,. maybe your not into guns and that's fine, Im sure allot of people appreciate that you added a section for guns on your forum anyway but with all due respect its a low blow to threaten to take it away for a few heated political debates or whatever.... you got a problem with political people take it out on them not everyone...

Tony there are many forums that you can go to and rant about politics, gun control, religion, or any other thing that stirs your passion. If you want to howl at the moon there are plenty who will howl along with you. I go to some of these sites from time to time. Wear a cup, fire resistant clothing, and body armor if you have it. :punch-2:

There are a couple of points I would like to make regarding your criticism of Glenn:

1. It is Glenn's forum.

2. It is a fishing forum. The only common interest shared by all here is our enthusiasm for bass fishing.

3. Some of us have been around long enough to remember when Glenn and the mods allowed more latitude regarding political and religious topics. I love to talk about these subjects, but the truth is this is not a format that allows for calm, intelligent conversation-if there is such a thing. These topics are divisive by nature, sometimes even when talking with like minded folks. By the time they were no longer allowed here, most of us understood that it was for the best. Glenn was right then, and he is right now.

4. We are all here by Glenn's good pleasure. Any questions regarding this are answered by rule 1.

Tony - we have edited multiple threads, sent multiple warnings, posted public warnings on multiple threads, locked several threads, and suspended 2 people - all in the gun forums within the past month - yet the political and pointed comments continue.  Seems as soon as one problem is removed, another steps up to take its place.

So now you all have a decision to make collectively - abide by our very few and simple rules, or we'll remove the "honey" that some find too irresistible to taste.

I don't owe you an explanation Tony, but I grew up around guns and often go shooting with my dad, who ranks in the top 5 of the nation's top competitive sporting clay shooters in his age group.  You don't get that good by target practicing a few times a year. I am also currently getting extensive firearms training and instruction from a retired police firearms instructor - at a police firing range, which allows you do "do things" not allowed at public ranges. So my viewpoints on guns have nothing to do with my stern warning.  Rather they have everything to do with maintaining the peace.

And when all of the above measures fail to do the work, then we have no choice but to make major changes.  We're at that crossroads now.

Normally I'm not a fan of strict moderation.... but I admit I'm sick of hearing about gun control/politics on all of the other forums I frequent. Fishing and politics just don't mix.... I fish to get away from things like politics.

My Homie. Just let it go. I believe the statement of, "dont poke the bull or youll get the horns." applies here. Its Glenns site, and we are not owed anything by him or any of the mods.

I have been very very hot over this issue (im pro gun). Recently i have been getting tired of defending myself and my beliefs. Now i just keep my mouth shut. I respect everything Glenn does for this site, i got out of line on another post and a mod disciplined me. I now know what i can and cannot do. I feel that the law abiding citizen who owns a gun is under attack. Kind of like when the school bully talks about you over and over, you can stoop to there level or be the responsible one and keep your mouth shut. I understand that no matter how much i argue or voice my opinion, its not going to change the opinion of the anti-gun advocate.

Really?

I've been a member for a while. I don't even remember when I last logged in to post on a forum or even browsed to see what's up. I check articles and videos and that's it. I'm in the market for a firearm and noticed the new (for me) forum and just with much of my fishing gear reviewed here, I figured "cool, new forum". First post I check there's some dude telling Glenn to put something somewhere. They run a fine site with quality information and a standard of conduct. If you don't don't like how it's done then POP OFF and don't come back.
