Worth It?

Featured Replies

Are the advantages of fluro worth the extra cash? I haven't used it much at all, but everything I read seems to suggest it is a must for certain situations. Furthermore, what brands seem to be the most reliable?

It absolutely is worth it. SunLine, Seaguar are terrific fluoro. I didnt like Berkley Vanish.

P-Line, Seagur, Sunline, Vicious are the ones I like. Get the small packs to try some out on different rods and reels. See what you like.

I have tried fluoro, but for me I didnt see much of a performance difference, so I stick to YoZuri. I dont fish alot of gin clear water down here, so maybe thats why.

Likewise. To me there wasn't enough to sway me to spend the extra cash. Now I still have some, and will use it, but find P-Line Floroclear and Yo-Zuri Hybrid more than up to the task.

If you don't like fluorocarbon line, but feel you need it at certain times, tie a fluoro leader.

Definitely worth it. I could go on a rant why, but the search feature is good for that.

Most reliable? Without a doubt seaguar, they control all the manufacturing processes in the manufacturing of their lines. The variance in line diameter between spools is incredibly low.

Most used line type for me. Definitely check out the Seaguar and the Vicious.

Thanks everybody!

every one is going to have varying opinions on fluro.I think fluro has it advantages and disadvantages like all lines.I used fluro for a long time and almost all the top brands. of all the ones I used shooter was my favourite for casting reels and sniper for spinning reels.I had to many negative experiences with fluro and have since switch backed to mono and copoly lines.I fish shallow most of the time and usually up close and personal.I missed the give mono had when combat fishing.I think the best thing you can do is try fluro and see if you like it.I feel that its important to buy a quality fluro line in order to get an accurate impression of how it handles.to me trying new stuff and experimenting are part of the fun in fishing, you won't know if you don't try.

Fluorocarbon is something that you really just need to try for yourself. Some like it and some hate it. I personally love it. You don't "have" to use fluorocarbon. There are perks to it which personally make fishing it more enjoyable than using a braid/fluoro leader. It is one of those things that you should not skimp on though.

I've used a few different fluorocarbon lines. I started with p line, switched to Seguar, then to yozuri hybrid ultra soft. I hated the yozuri. It had way too much memory for my applications. I switched back to Seguar invisX. FOR ME, it's the best. My next switch will be from power pro braid (which I think is pretty good) to Seguar kanzen braid to see if I like it better.

Whatever you do, don't buy a 1000 yard spool of anything until you know what you like. ;)

I dont like fishing straight flouro, i really do well with power pro and flouro leaders...

Same. ..........and for leaders I use Seaguar

Ill have to pick some up, ive been using pline flouroclear for a while with no complaints. I also want to try the seaguar braid...

If you are worried about the price and want to save cash, fill your spool half full with cheap mono and fill the rest with flouro of your choice. But yes I think it is worth it; I like Seaguar.

F/C may make a difference on the water and species for some, but where I fish it made no difference to me.  I don't care much for my knots especially with F/C leaders and with a heavier # test.  We have species down here that are supposed to be very line shy, I've caught them on wire and not just once.  I''ll go braid with mono or floroclear leader just about all the time.

Exactly what i was going to say! Braid for most all my set-ups. On the rare occassion that i fish on a clear lake, i will tie a BPS XPS fluoro leader.

We must be twins.

We must be twins.

Triplets apparently. Most of the lakes I fish are fairly clear and I've never had a problem using braid. There are occasions I'll use a flouro leader but spooling up flouro? I doubt I'll ever do so.

That said, there are plenty of cats who swear by it so there probably isn't a right answer. Just your preference.
