  • Lews has made a big splash in the past couple of years. If the reels hold up, they are certainly a contender. It reminds me a lot of the Revo introduction which brought Abu Garcia into the new mille

What?  No US Reel?????  I voted ABU but I could go either ABU or Shimano.

US reel was sold two years ago. No new product or update from the company. I have emailed them multiple times trying to see if they are doing anything. I figure they won't be around much longer.

Well, because I've owned Quantum, BPS, and now a Daiwa baitcaster, there's no question. Daiwa gets my vote.

I'd pick any of the above...if it has a 23lb bass on the other end of the line...

Lew's reels. I've used Abu Garcia, Quantum, Shimano, and Bass Pro reels as well, but given the choice I'll take a Lew's reel any day. I like some Abu Garcia reels, I still own and use some, but it seems to me that quality control (if you will) is lacking; some of their products aren't consistently performing or durable as  others on the same platform level. I also feel that many other companies are tend to price reels based largely on the value of their brand. Just a thought..

I voted for shimano for bait casters but my best spinning reels are diawa.

No Pfluegers? 3 Presidents, 3 Trions, 1 Supreme, 1 Trion spinning. Never had any problems with them. Also 3 BPS Extremes.

Most of mine are Shimano, I picked up a Johnny Morris gold colored baitcaster from BPS a few yrs ago on the cheap, has 10 ball bearings,it has become one of my favorites, smooth as silk, cast a mile,I beat the bag out of it, it's been stepped on, dropped a gazillion times and looks like its been through a war, but just keeps right on tickin. zero problems.

Team Daiwa FTW

Lews, they just work better!

Shimano got my vote, love the baitcasters and spinning reels.

So many choices, not enough $$$

Most of my reels are Shimano and Daiwa with a few others mixed in.

Shimano here. Most of my personal experience is with Daiwa and, of course, Shimano. After owning numerous high end reels from both companies I decided I liked Shimano the best, I just simply enjoy fishing with their reels. Not that I think they're a major step up in quality from Daiwa, they're not, Daiwa makes excellent gear. I just have a more enjoyable day out fishing with my Shimano gear. I know there are some guys that think just because it says Shimano on the side that automatically means it's the best, I don't look at it this way and I certainly don't look down on other guys tackle just because they prefer a different brand than I do.

I have two different fishing buddies that have and enjoy fishing with Quantum reels. One guy ONLY owns Quantum reels. In all the trips I've fished with these two guys I've not witnessed either guy have a single problem out of his gear. At the end of the day if you enjoy using your gear, whatever brand it happens to be thats all that matters. Fishing is suppose to be fun and enjoyable. Sorry to go on way more than needed to answer the question.

Pfluegar and Abu are the same now, so I didn't put Pfluegar in there.
